do you have any of the bonus tracks that aren't on the cd, Son?

just picked up Tobacco's "maniac meat" and the new LCD Soundsystem. oh, and the New Pornographers. blasting tobacco right now. very nice.
edit: so, i've been listening to Together a lot. it's good, but i think i just want them to ditch the acoustic guitars and strings and load the songs with electric guitars and synthesizers. ------------------------------ they were the heroes of old, men of renown. |

Jose, I found Ash's bonus tracks on the web... CTRL-ALT-DEL is my favourite.
June : The New Pornographers' Together ! I Saw them live two weeks ago for the first time, they were excellent ! Very crowd friendly too. |

I was struggling to find an album for this month, until I heard the new Delays album 'Star Tiger Star Ariel'. It's a pretty nice album but I'm afraid the june title must go to 'My Horse Likes You' by Bonaparte- A really catchy, fun album. |

I don't see what all the fuss is about the gaslight anthem, they're alright but I listened to the new album once then put it aside. |

This will probably sound pretentious, but fuck it, i don't care.
I think sometimes a band connects with people because of the similarity of the upbringings, both geological and influential, between the band and the audience. And i think people of my general age who grew up on the Eastern side of the US grew up hearing classic rock, but especially Bruce Springsteen on the radio, but also hearing the Clash and the Ramones on the same classic rock radio (not to mention that in the 90s where i grew up there was a really vibrant and [then, exciting - now, horribly contrived] punk rock scene).
So the Gaslight Anthem, to me, synthesizes the punk rock of the NJ scene that we both (me more on the fringe, admittedly) grew up in, with the classic rock of our parents' generation mixed in, and (this part is key, and it was revealed in the Pitchfork review for the new Gaslight Anthem album), embraces the idea of nostalgia - not that the music is overtly nostalgic, though some of it is - and makes music that looks back on the feelings of the old while looking toward the future. So many of their songs are about people they grew up with, and old stories of their lives, but always turning them towards what is happening next.
And that is why i love the Gaslight Anthem.
/pretention
Back me up here, Andy.

I know a few musicians around here who are really into them and identify a lot with their style. They're just not my bag, that's all. Each to their own. |

My money's on Disconnect from Desire by School of Seven Bells so far. What a great album! I love those trancy electro beats combined with dreamy female vocals.

Guys, check out Wolf Parade's Expo 86. I love those guys. Especially Spencer Krug. But Dan Bockner's songs are especially great on this one. One of my favourite bands around. |

DEVO's new album is pretty good, is a lot of fun.
The Fall's album "Your future, our clutter" is fantastic, here is one of the standout songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7Fu0tBOd4c&NR=1 (Although listen past the first 1min 28 to get to its wonderfulness)
It is slightly depressing, however, that my favouritism 3 albums of 2010 (Der Golem is the king), all the artists have started making music before I was born.

I just listened to the new Ash one as well. For some reason I had it in my head that it was a best of, but thank god it's not. The only song of theirs I liked in their hey day was Shining Light.
But the new one is pretty good, they got better. Some of the songs remind me a lot of New Order, especially Neon. |

yeah, neon's good. space shot, ichiban, arcadia, dead disciples, this one's just crammed with goodness. Part 2 seems to be more of a mixed bag.

This month I arr been mostly listening to albums from the days of old yonder. But they don't qualify for this selection, so after not much deliberation I have decided to go with King of the Beach by Wavves, the new album from Wavves. |

It's alright, not mad about it. I like the song Sprawl II though, the one with the girl singing in it. I'd like to spank her. |

I'm warming up to this album, just gave it a couple of thorough listens and I like it. Not so keen on the first track though which probably gave me an initial bad impression. This months a toss up between that and Autolux. |

I ordered the CD w/T-shirt combo while on vacation. Finally getting a chance to hear it at work today. Favorites are: Census, Supertoys, Audience No. 2, Kissproof and Headless Sky. The Title track is good but some songs like Highchair and Spots left me bored. Not as great as Future Perfect but then again that one took a few listens to really enjoy the whole package.

For August I think I'm going to have to go with 'Hawk' by Isobel Campbell (Belle from Belle & sebastian) & Mark Lanegan, really great album. I also like their previous one 'Sunday at Devil Dirt'. Folky, bluesy stuff. Isobel Campbell sings beautifully as always, and Lanegan has a really great deep voice which at times sounds like Tome Waits, other times Johnny Cash. |

I'm trying to find some new stuff to listen to. I spend my time buying extra rare drone-y stuff released on 50 copies on some dutch label or something (really, I do) and I realize I have absolutely no idea of what's being released in the real world. Hell, last week I went to a festival where Arcade Fire was headlining and I didn't even stay to see them. I'll take a look at what you guys listed. Some stuff I saw today that sounded interesting: Sleigh Bells. Janelle Monae. Surfer Blood. Matthew Dear's new album. Moonhearts. Any opinion on any of these?

I've heard an album by Sleigh Bells a while ago, 'interesting' sound dynamics(basically dream pop with a hardcore sound à la Atari Teenage Riot or whatever, some r'n'b influences too maybe), all in all pretty cool at some moments in my opinion but a bit one-trick-poney-ish, if I may speak so. I only saw a music video of Janelle Monae probably around May or June and I loved it, gotta listen to what she does... |
