So far this year there have been 2 albums I've heard that have really stood out for me. One in January, and the other in February. So I thought it would be interesting to start a thread where we can post our favourite album that was/is about to be released every month of the year 2010.

January- Spoon 'Transference'

February- Lonelady 'Nerve Up'

March- Brant Bjork 'Gods & Goddesses'

April- The New Pornographers 'Together'

May- LCD Soundsystem 'This Is Happening'

June- Bonaparte 'My Horse Likes You'

feb- the golem, of course! i'm saddened that it's not midlake, but my first listens of their new one have been underwhelming.

I actually really liked the new Vampire Weekend record. Hyped? Maybe, but Spoon is also hyped on an indielevel. That being said, the new Spoon got me too. It's a tie in my book. Although the latter is probably still good 20 years from now.

I also liked the Efterklang record.

This month: joanna newsom?

Dissapointed with Goldfrapp's new one. It's a bit happy smiley sea-sidey boring. Not like the kind of noises she used to make.

I like track 2: Believer, but yeah you are right it's nothing special. You could easily be listening to Girls Aloud or something. That's all they ever were though GF, just a good pop band with a bit of added psychedalia. All of the albums I've heard by them are very fillery.

I only know Black Cherry, Supernature, 7th tree and the new one. They all contain their share of sexy numbers. I feel like I am listening to Steps on some of the songs off the new album though.

Nothing this year, apart from Black Francis, has really wowed me. I think I've just gotten frustrated with the whole indie scene - too many bands, too much mediocracy, too much hype, has gotten to the point of style over substance. Right now i'm finding I'm mostly listening to old blues/folk and alt country.

I've been listening to a lot of 50's country lately, Hank Williams, Les Paul and Mary Ford, compilation albums and stuff. There's this relatively new young woman from Iceland who goes by Lay Low, who's new album is really good if you're into that kind of stuff. Nothing mind blowing, just a really pretty voice, good, simple songs, and a good backing band heavy on the pedal steel.

I'm loving Natalie Merchant's new album. It's called "Lose Your Sleep." She took a bunch of children's poems and set them to music. As far as concept albums go, it's as good as I've heard (FB included). Truly enchanting poems and music.

My two favorite albums of the year that will be hardly beaten:

Beach House - Teen Dream

Miles Kurosky - The Desert of Shallow Effects

The first one was like a "love at first sight" / mystic revelation(even when I loved both of the previous records), but Miles Kurosky's album is incredible in my opinion. I always loved Beulah, all that they did but here it's a whole new level.

Oh, and I forgot as I was lucky enough to hear it last year but it should be released this year, the latest album of Sons of the Desert, Out of the Past is great too. You can hear it almost completely (from "This" to "Pies") on their MySpace if you're interested!

I've bought surprisingly few records released in 2010. Well, not exactly that surprising since The Golem cost NINETY FUCKING BUCKS.
The only ones I got were both BF records, Pantha Du Prince (not nearly as good as the previous one), Daniel Johnston and the Beam Orchestra (pretty good) and a Machinefabriek LP.

Billions of albums on my wishlist though. Thomas Fehlmann, Indignant Senility (never heard them but hey, they're called Indignant Senility!), the Bill Callahan live LP, Tindersticks, Minamo, The Sight Below... A new Omar Souleyman comp next week... And I shouldn't admit it but I want the new Chieftains & Ry Cooder album.

It's "The Chieftains & Ry Cooder", not a solo Cooder record. They recorded an album in Mexico, together with a bunch of local artists. So it's a mix between celtic music and mariachi, and as ugly as that looks like, the extracts I've heard were pretty good. I like most of the guest artists on it (Lila Downs, Tigres Del Norte, Chavela Vargas and such).
Anyway I ordered it yesterday, I'll tell you how it is.

http://www.amazon.com/San-Patricio-Chieftains/dp/B0033AX26I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1272989975&sr=8-1

Also ordered: Talking Heads' Speaking In Tongues, and Sinatra's In The Wee SMall Hours. Not exactly albums of the month...
