Was at the Chile - Spain match last night. Best atmosphere at a match so far. The Chile supporters soon won over the neutrals and for once the singing and drumming drowned out the vuvuzelas at times. Thought Chile played very well and the result could have gone the other way with some luck.
The South American teams have the best support by far, seems like the Europeans are staying away (except for the Dutch who are camping in their thousands at a campsite next to the road I take to work and they seem to be having a non-stop party)
Tonight we're going to USA - Ghana. I like how the US team kept fighting so far, hoping for a good match.

Good for you. I thought Chile-Spain was the best match of the whole group stage so far.
And you could actually hear the good atmosphere and the crowd reaction at times. I thought the network was maybe filtering out the vuvuzela frequencies.
Will you be going to more matches after tonight? Was it difficult to get tickets?

I applied for tickets at the first chance before the teams for each group were even announced. We got tickets easily then but of course did not know who was going to play. Unfortunately I did not get to see South Africa play as getting tickets to those matches were impossible. Some matches are easy to get into even now still, tonight's match still many tickets. It is tough to get into any match featuring a South American team, Holland and any Cape Town or Durban matches.
We're still to see Paraguay - Japan (the stadium is just down the road from me), a quarter final at Soccer city in Joburg and the final.

Wow. Enjoy those matches.
And of course: the final. You must have celebrated, when you got the confirmation for those tickets.
Sounds like you are making the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity that is a wc in your homecountry.

Well they're fighting Argentina tomorrow, so I'd choose another team if I were you. Support Ghana! They deserve it.

Something tells me our English friends aren't too pleased with the referee.

Hmmm, maybe now they'll decide to introduce modern technology into football... not that England can really blame the result on the disallowed goal, though. |

I didn't see the England game and have just found out the score, but regarding the disallowed goal, all I can say is 1966. These swings and roundabouts keep on a'swingin' and a'roundin'.
Video replays are a must! Get with the now, FIFA! UNLUCKY MEXICO!! Keep your heads about ya and as I type in goes the second.

With England and Honduras out it looks like I'll have to root for Paraguay since they have a Wigan player, Alcaraz, playing for them.
Some of these decisions are becoming embarrassing. I never really had much of an opinion on the goal line technology debate but it's getting ridiculous now. As I'm typing this Argentina have just scored a goal that was offside and even the linesman knows it now it's been shown on the screen AFTER he's made his (incorrect) decision. No wonder the Mexican's are arguing.
It would have taken less time to see the replay first, then make the decision, correctly!

That was always what I thought, and in a league season the decisions even themselves out over the course (to a degree). But in a knockout game on a stage as large as the World Cup finals surely something needs to be done.

Goal line technology only looks at whether the ball has crossed the line doesn't it?. Those close calls don't come along often.
It doesn't look at incorrect offside decisions so wouldn't have made a difference in the Arg/Mex match.
But anyway, you're right. Something needs to be done.

Alright, I'll consider our defeat is entirely due to the referee's decisions. Someday Mexico will make it to the 1/4ths. It's the fifth time in a row that they lose in the 1/8ths. It's getting annoying.

At last, all the Mexicans around here will finally shut up. And the fans south of the border can once again concentrate on filling piss balloons for their next match against Estados Unidos. |

Would you like salt and pepper on those? Boy is Terry gonna get an earful from (the indispensable as it turns out) Rio.
Thought it might hurt less coming from a fellow Englishman. But I'm pretty sure kella will be in touch soon.
