I'm really looking forward to this now. We had a vote in the house about who to support and we've decided on England. If they get to the final I hope I can follow it through ;-)

Will someone with higher football knowledge be setting up a fantasy league for WC 2010? |

For anybody interested in joining a fantasy league I've set one up at...
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/index.html (just look for the fantasy WC section)
The code for the FB.net league is 305713-72177.
You can register now but can only pick your squad on June 4th, when all the final squads for the World Cup have been announced.

I probably won't have time at all to play this stuff (not to mention the fact that I don't know shit about football) but I'm in. Los Taqueros.

A superb goal and some average defense. I guess 1-1 is a fair result but the win seemed so possible for a while. Well just have to thump Uruguay or.... er France now. We'll see how handy the French are tonight.
The noise and spirit around SA was incredible today.

This is a very American attitude, I know, but a 1-1 draw is such an anticlimatic ending to a hard-fought game. |

1-1 is a thriller compared to that scoreless France-Uruguay game. Yawn. |

Yeah it's really great to see. But I have to admit I'm already getting tired of the incessant horns throughout a game. They may sound awesome in a stadium but on TV they just sound like mosquitos buzzing around your ears.
Hey good luck in the other matches. It will be fantastic to see South Africa go through.

There has been lots of complaints from foreign press about the noise. The vuvuzela has been part of South African football for a long time, it takes some getting used to. The noise inside the stadium can be painful, I'll be taking some earplugs.
The SA team has improved a great deal from a year ago. Happy with yesterday's result, it seems they'll be able to compete in the matches ahead.

I would think that the networks could turn down the crowd noise or even filter out some of the frequency of those horns. |

Turns out my loyalties weren't so divided after all. But what a bizzare night. First our HD channel inexplicably broadcast an ad during the match for 12 seconds or so. The 12 seconds during which Gerard scored! So we missed the goal! And then Green's howler! What a fiasco!
http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/ITV-shows-English-fans-an-ad-instead-of-Gerrard-?urn=sow,247852
But I was pleased to see the attacking football England played for the first 35 mins of the second half. How they went off the boil for the last 10 minutes is another mystery.

Yeah, I feel bad for the Aussies. The referee isn't helping them either...
