Not to double-post, but instead to open new discussion for new BF record. Hope it's not a joke... Carl posted the original NME article in the fb live forum:

http://www.nme.com/news/pixies/46657

quote:

"After his set, Francis told NME.COM that he was heading straight into a nearby studio to record the final track for his new solo album, which he revealed will likely be called 'Non-Stop Erotik'."

Title comes from Grand Duchy press release:

http://musicremedy.com/g/Grand_Duchy/album/Petits_Fours-6329.html

“I guess Luxembourg isn't exactly St. Tropez, either. But we could rule our Garage Rock Synth Chick Non-Stop Erotik Poussez-Poussez Dominion from a place like that. Just a little place on the river, in the ravine, in the trees, in the stars. Our pied-de-terre. A place to stop on our way to your European nite klub.”

which is in turn a Soft Cell reference, yes?:

http://www.amazon.de/Non-Stop-Erotic-Cabaret-Remas/dp/B0000073YB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250117186&sr=8-1

Whatever it is, it's promising that there's a new record on the way. Maybe the NME guy got a bit confused about the title though.

You have to remember the NME is humorless and report everything spoken as fact. He may have been joking around.

If true, i hope he'll release it digitally before he does on cd/vinyl. It's a smart strategy for prolific writers like Charles - he can release as he records rather than based on record company's fear of an over saturated market. Otherwise, we'd have to wait quite a while, because they'd want a release gap between it and the golem.

Sounds like it might be a Grand Duchy album rather than an FB solo release. Think I'd prefer the latter.

I know there's been work on the GD album, but yeah, I'd love a new 'Black Francis' release. With lead guitar on it!

If this is being recorded in a California studio, let's hope Eric Drew Feldman is involved. And if this was mentioned in connection with That Burnt Out Rock and Roll, let's hope that this is in fact a Black Francis solo release. At one point, Black Francis mentioned an album he was working on with Eric Drew Feldman (prior to Der Golem). And I say, bring on that Ralph Carney saxophone magic.

I d go for the EDF album.
With Rabbit Hole, Burnt out rnr, The water, Dead man's curve(remember that one?) and new tracks we never heard about.
100% true Frank Black Francis.
It's been a long time it's on the fire, it must be well cooked now...
But if I really have to bet i'll go for a simple joke.

Perhaps Black Francis will drop in with an album title and track listing, as was the case prior to the release of his last few albums.... ah, those were the days. Out of the blue and into the bliss.

Is this a solo record or a Grand Duchy one?

The new Grand Duchy album is to be called "let the people speak", or something along those lines. I believe this one is a (long-awaited!) Black Francis album.

It should be noted that BF listed the tracks and said "in no particular order."

Also, "When I Go Down on You" is a bold ass song title.

Those titles have me pretty excited - despite the one rather, ahem, personal one...

Especially "Rabbits" and "Dead Man's Curve" - looking forward to proper versions of these after 3+ years of being teased.

The title "Non-Stop Erotic" seems to convey a new wavey type feel - but Dead Man's Curve and Rabbits are more rootsy. I wonder if the rest of the album will be in a similar tone to those songs, or those songs will get reworked to be more sexy?

It could be, but since it was already released on Christmass as The Water it'd be a strange move i think
