Hi all,

So a friend of my wife is getting married in Florida on a Monday (yeah, i know, its weird) - that Friday, my college roommate and i are going to see a Tampa Bay Rays/Kansas City Royals game. My wife is leaving Tuesday night, and i'm going to stick around until Saturday. Now, my friend is starting a new job, and can't take a lot of time off to hang out. And, i'm poor. So, i'm looking for a few suggestions from the Floridians to kill Wed-Thur. Here are my possible game plans:

-Go to Miami and see a Florida Marlins game.
-See the Salvador Dali museum in St. Petersburg (definitely will do this, as my friend lives in St. Pete)

Thats all i got. Give me some more suggestions!

- Brian

Are you driving down? We did that, with kids in tow was fun. 3 day drive, Elvira NY to Disney compound. Three days at said compound then three days on Longboat Key where it felt like we had our own private beach. That was kinda weird because we thought Florida had the most crowded beaches of all. You got time to get to the Keys?

I'm told South Florida is the #1 destination for
semi-retired Jazz musicians.

The Coral Castle would be a good place to see how
strong your power to avoid weirdos is. And to complete
the theme there is the Miami River Circle.

Kennedy Space Centre is a gigantic monument to taxes.

Have you seen the King of Kong? Funspot Arcade!

Maybe that's in New Hampshire.

You don't happen to golf? How about deep sea fishing?
3-hour tour?

Disneyworld is so great. I really want to go back with a gf too, because when I went with my son, he got all tired before I was ready to leave the various parks every single day.

By the way Brian, you could see a Cirque de Soleil show in Orlando, or check out Universal Studios or the various Disney parks. Don't know if you have been, but it's all pretty amazing stuff.

Florida's popular with the fb.net crowd this year. I'm taking my family a month from today. My son is dancing in a 4th of July show at Disney World and we're gonna check out all the theme parks. After that, we're gonna spend a week on the beach, getting tan and reducing pent-up stress. Haven't figured out yet where to stay on the beach. Maybe Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach or Melbourne. Any recommendations in that area, anyone?

Ybor City in Tampa

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ybor_City

You must go there, there's a million bars and restaurants and cool shit. I'm sure your friend has been there several times and has some favorites spots. It's so much fun. Go there!

And the beach in Tampa is really nice, the water is very clear, If you're looking to relax as opposed to driving all day.

The Dali mueseum is cool. Are you thinking about going to the Disney theme parks? You can pay more but get to see all parks for one day. It was a little crazy but we just went to Animal Kingdom, the Magic Kingdom and Epcot all in one day. It was fun, but man my feet hurt at the end of the day.

Funny coincidence, was watching a travel show on TV over here, one of the the features on it had a family doing Florida by RV, and they visited the Dali Museum.

The picture doesn't do that justice. I think it's the tallest "mountain" in Florida. I traumatized my 8 year old (at the time) son by taking him on that. Was really great, but he shakily said "I can't feel my legs" as I pulled him out of the car afterward. Really well done, especially the waiting line which weaves throughout Nepalese mountain lodges with climbing artifacts and prayer flags hanging. Really cool!

Brian - I live in St Pete - directly across from where they're building the New Dali museum - and a couple blocks away from the current one.

My girlfriend and I absolutely love living here and I can give you a list a mile long of places to hang out here. I'd be happy to do it too - being a big fan of the podcasts and all - it's like a brush with celebrity for me. Even if you do want to go to Orlando or Miami - you're surely going to have some Tampa/St Pete time so I can help you out there. Of course if you have a buddy that lives here - then he can probably tell you everything that I can.

I sent another friend of mine a list not that long ago when he was coming and I can probably just cut and paste out of that old email and send to you.

Shoot me an email (it's in my profile) and give me an idea of what you're looking for. My girlfriend and I are all about the beach and we know these local beaches well.

GO RAYS!!

Google up "Siesta Key". Siesta Key is a really cool kick back beach town - it's part of Sarasota - and that's only about 45 minutes - hour from here. If you're short on time - that would be better than driving all the way to Miami which is going to be about 4.5 hour drive.

I second Siesta Key. Just don’t try to search for Duma Key. The family and I have been enjoying two to three weeks in Sarasota every year the last 7 years. My Aunt has a winter house there and while she’s up north for the summer she allows us to stay at her place. I don’t even wanna know how jam packed the roads and beaches get during peak season. One place to visit is the reasonably priced Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota to see the Reds farm team. You are almost always guaranteed a foul ball souvenir or two. There is also the John and Mable Ringling Museum and their mansion the Cà d'Zan. The banyan trees look like something right out of Lord of the Rings. Another must visit is St. Armands circle on St. Armands Key. Sure the retail stores are overpriced but its fun to walk and look. There are a lot of fine places to eat. Favorites include the Hemingway’s Restaurant and Tommy Bahama’s Restaurant. The same thing goes for Siesta Key over priced retail but fine eats. Favorites are Capt. Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar and S.K.O.B. Siesta Key beach has the best sand in Florida.
This year we are traveling via the Auto Train again. It saves on wear and tear of our mini van for when we used to drive down. We are spending two weeks in Sarasota and one at Disney World. I love Florida, but I don’t know if I’d wanna live there.

Well i made it back after many, many delays thru JFK.
Universal was awesome, we managed to get all of island of adventure and universal into one day without missing anything or wearing ourselves out.
Magic Kingdom was great too although it got to the stage that we felt we had enough. Sadly space mountain closes every 7 years for remodelling and i never got to try it

Lol. Well, you will have to come back. There are so many cool places to see. Orlando is fun, but there are so many other great places to check out. If you ever want to, you're always welcome up in Minnesota. I know there are a lot of other cool places, but you're always welcome up here.

I'm watching the waves crash and the sand crabs running sideways as I listen to Show Me Your Tears on a beautiful morning in Cocoa Beach. My family is back at the hotel, sleeping off a day of swimming and getting sunburned. We did four intense days at Disney World last week. Which was a blast, but I'll take the Atlantic Ocean over Orlando any day.
