not so fun trivia about Touching, told by a climber friend: after the incident poor Yates was in the climbing circles reffered to as Mr. Knife.

ludicrous, seeing how Simpson said he'd have done the same thing, and it turns out they both would have died if he hadn't.

at any point during excursions like the one depicted, do the climbers think to themselves "i don't have to be here right now. i could be sitting on my couch. why did i choose to be on the side of a wall of ice 20,000 feet above the ground in the middle of nowhere for 4 days straight."

i can't wrap my head around anyone wanting to do this, let alone succeeding.

the first time I saw the film I was by myself in a theatre. was literally on the edge of my seat. thought I was going to have a heart attack

watching that film made me realize I never need to go mountain climbing. subtract that one from the bucket list

exactly. i will never be tempted to do that. give me a good ol fashioned hike any day of the week. fuck the ice walls 20000 feet above the ground.

Changing the subject I know, but anyway......... Just watched 'vanishing point' for the first time in years. Is it not just a great car chase movie? It's rare I watch something again and the impact is so powerful. Cleavon Little and Barry Newman are both brilliant, that interplay later to influence 'The Warriors' by Walter Hill(one of my all time favourite movies). It's just that Newman just thrives on adrenaline, and that's all he has left to live for. Interestingly, there was talk of Gene Hackman playing the lead. Is this the greatest car chase movie?

SHIT!! I can't believe the length of discussion in relation to survival movies and no mention of 'The Warriors'. I mean the 1979 version and not the shitty remake. Anybody who has any interest in survival movies and have not seen it should make the effort to do so. No 1 bar none. Masterpiece.

the guy with bottled fingers? it certainly stuck in the mind, but as a gang movie. it's not like they didn't have access to civilization, including gang fashion accessories.

the place beyond the pines is kinda shitty...

i woulda made it 45 minutes shorter and killed a couple of the main characters a lot sooner. just sayin'

Gotta disagree shiney, seeing as how the whole movie is about the huge repurcussions of a tiny, agonising but quite natural decision made by the Eva Mendes character in the first five minutes of the movie. The repurcussions extend into the next generation. Slicing 45 minutes would make the movie a bit pointless. I'm gonna hazard a guess here, did you arrive late? I know that you're a stickler for perfect parking

I don't recall hearing about it when it was in the theatres,
I didn't see it on the movie channel.

All comic book movies should want to bring in the visual
elements the great artists have created for the stories.

Sin City 2 is out this year. Can't Hartigan die?
I might see it fall 2014?

Iron Man 3: The best bits were the comedy; the action at the end was video game like and somewhat monotonous. Ben Kingsley was excellent, a definite high point. Better than the terrible Iron Man 2 but not as good as the first movie. I think there were some plot holes as well but don't care enough to really examine it.

Man of Steel: Terrible. Boring. More monotonous action.

I forgot, Stark Trek Into Darkness: Really really terrible. More video game like, etc. etc. A very stupid and boring movie.

Even though I've been somewhat burnt out on them for a number of years, I can still enjoy a good popcorn flick, (the Avengers from last summer, the Dark Knight Rises, a bad movie but a really entertaining one!) but all of these were just flat; aside from the comedy in Iron Man, a lot of which works because of Downey Jr.'s delivery.

SPOILERS for Iron Man 3:

When Tony Stark is running around at the end of the movie, it's (somewhat) interesting; at least there's the illusion of suspense and the roller coaster thrill but when ten suits of armor are flying around, I don't really care. What does it matter if suit #7 gets destroyed? No one's in it.

End of SPOILER

I went because a friend wanted to see Iron Man 3.

Did you really end up not seeing the movie? You saved yourself some time and money.

I remember sitting through Transformers 2 (with the same friend) and deciding, I'm done with Michael Bay movies. This isn't even fun to make fun of; it's horribly insulting. I still sometimes go to things like Iron Man 3 but that's miles above dreck like Transformers.

he was awesome. i don't get starstruck seeing famous people except when it's someone i'm a big fan of. to me he is one of the coolest directors of all time. cinema legend status

chatted and joked with he and his son for a little bit. they were both very friendly.

it was surreal having Werner Herzog speak to me personally in Werner Herzog voice

we were at he skatepark believe it or not (he and his son were chilling out watching skaters)

That's really great. Herzog is legend for me too and one of the few people I could happily listen to for hours. His mellifluous voice is reason enough.
