A place to talk about day to day issues affecting Obama's presidency.
Like today for example, 100 days in, comes the news of Arlen Spector's defection. Are the pundits right? Will the combination of a Democratic White House, a Democratic House and a possible 60 seat philibuster proof Senate majority give Obama all the power he needs to get what he wants done? Is that a good thing? More liberals in the judiciary, for example, has got to be a good thing, right?

It's a good thing he has 4 years. I don't see the country's objectives being any more clearly defined than, get out of the economic crisis, and, determine a strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Iraq looks like a problem with no solution and a post crisis economy may be missing some of the key companies of the 20th century.
The Bush presidency was all about consolidating power in the White House. If you want to make good decisions, the engine should be in place to carry them through. I haven't been watching very closely, has Obama reversed any of the political mechanisms that were put in place?
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/view/
Do you get more appointed political hacks with a clear majority? In Canada we have an appointed Senate. When a government is losing power or is first gaining power they usually start to move the old guard [still alive] up to fill the vacancies [recently deceased, or vague].
When you have a long term stable majority government nothing much happens in the Canadian Senate because there isn't much real power there. It is supposed to act as a conservative filter but they hardly ever do much more than reword house bills. The last time they refused the house there was some grumbling because people had forgotten it was within their power. |

Obama gets to pick a Supreme Court justice already. I predict, right now, that he won't pick anyone as horrible as Harriet Miers. Yet another bit of evidence that Obama is an upgrade over the last guy.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Local National and International news outlets have all done their part in assisting President Barack Obama (and his very cool administration) in making the glorious acceptance of him the right and wise thing to do. No crime think here. I heart change!

The president is planning to speak to the nation's students (K-12) next Tuesday in an address that will be available on TV and the Internet. The topic of the speech: Doing well in school. Angry parents are threatening to keep their children home from school that day, concerned that Obama is trying to indoctrinate them into some sort of communist thinking or spread his liberal agenda or some such thing. Is it just me, or has respect for the presidency jumped the shark? I'll be pissed if my kids' teachers' DON'T make the speech required watching -- it's the president, for crissakes. When exactly DID we stop respecting the presidency? Does it go back to Clinton? Nixon? Farther?
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

What the hell does that little nugget mean? What was so pure about Washington?
I think for a while there's been disrespect for the Presidency, but only a few months ago it was considered poor behavior to pray for their death or to carry guns to their public appearances. Basically, a lot of idiots "want the nigger dead". How could they ever respect a nigger? |

Letting Ford get away with pardoning Nixon didn't help. Obama eats up this stuff for breakfast. I bet it would be amusing to know exactly how he tweaks his address now. In any case it's sure to be improved.

From what i have heard this morning it seems Mr.Obama is cancelling the planned project by Bush to install a long range missile launch centre in Poland to protect from the impending Russian invasion. (reads like a gag i know) Anyway as far as i am concerned thats a fine start. Go Obama. |

What President Carter and Speaker Nancy Pelosi are doing with the race card is a disgrace. Is this why the Democratic Party supported Barack Obama? So that any opposition to their agenda could be swat down with the charge of bigotry? Shame on them!

The old white woman crying about, "I want my country back!" What do you think that means? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZu5aiboXWk
What do you think it means when the hatred for the President is bigger than I think it's ever been in at least 50 years? People praying that he would die. People bringing guns to his rallies. Obama is hardly a left-wing liberal (no further left than Clinton and less than Carter). So, why is he hated more? Why is he being depicted as Hitler and not Clinton? Why does it blow their minds so much that they deny he's even a citizen? Hint: he's black. Many dumb-asses hate blacks.
People circulating emails with a pictures of the White House grounds covered with watermelons (http://youngblackandsaved.com/another-racist-obama-cartoon), others with Obama's head pasted on a witch doctor(http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/07/conservative_activist_forwards_racist_pic_showing.php?ref=fpa), people calling his daughter a gangster because she wore some dreads. That's where the fucking shame is.
If you don't think there's some racism behind those behavior, then you're in denial. |

Barack Obama can take care of himself, he's the President. I don't care about the kooks, let the Cops and Secret Service deal with them. Why is it that suddenly, Nancy Pelosi can't handle protests? And why is she (and the mass media) only focussing on the worst of the lot, like the Lyndon LaRouche Democrats? Because thats all they've got.
Congress, under Pelosi's "leadership" has had the lowest approval ratings ever, and now the Democrats have their President and they have the Senate, so what's the problem? I'll tell you, VOTES! They are scared because they are failing epically and Americans see it. Ten percent unemployment nation wide, in some states, Dem states at that, the numbers are even higher. It's becoming a joke.
How far will the current Administration go in masking their own effect? They can't blame Bush anymore, this is their mess now.
But like so many politicians they refuse to except responsibility. So they slander the opposition with the pathetic cry of racism. Again, shame on them! They are cowards.
If this is all too much for Madam Speaker maybe she should step down, she looks tired.
Look Mom, No Links!

Look real data (Research 2000, Adults MoE 2%, Sep 07, 2009 - Sep 10, 2009)
Note that disapproval is much higher for the GOP than the Dems, so dream on about Pelosi being desperate. And I think people are happier about the economy today than they were a year ago. And no, 8 months passing doesn't mean that we have to forget that the Bush and the Republicans got us into this mess. Nice try.

Oh come on, man!
I have to think you are sort of joking with me now.
The numbers you put up suggest an overall disapproval with our elected officials, as it should be. The one exception being that of the President.

Yes, I must check myself and my obsession with people not being prejudged because of their race. I'll try to follow your prescription that racism won't exist if we deny its existence. |

I'm not suggesting that we deny that racism exists, I am however demanding that it not be used as a shield to protect the Obama Administration's policies.

And the Republicans can start criticizing Obama's proposed policies rather than repeatedly making racist attacks on him. Or at least the mainstream Republicans can publicly renounce the racist campaign against Obama that has been going on for the past 6 or so months. |
