Done the studio discs -- excellent stuff -- and now for the live discs.
By the way, is everyone else copying or ripping the discs to their hard drives? It'd be gutting if they got damaged, since you can't replace them...
Nice lighting on the pic.
I haven't even listened to my discs. A fellow fb.netter sent me the files while I was still waiting for my Golem in the mail. I'm not sure I'll ever play the discs -- for just the reason you mention. I'd hate to scratch them. I did watch the movie once, though. I'll probably watch it several times.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

finally watched the film last night. a lot of it went with parts that i imagined existed, but i was really curious to see how MAKANUJO fit in to the film. what a great scene!
"i'm going to show you the history of our people and our patriarchs. don't talk or laugh or you fucking die" or some such thing. it was like Samson meets "inglourious basterds."
so they practice black magic but fear God? many fingers in many pots. is that a saying? you get my gist.
anyway, touching ending.

I've had #43 here in Oregon since it shipped on Day One, but I haven't even played it yet. I waited months for it, and the day it arrived, so did my first child! Sorry Charles... priorities!!!
It looks great, though. All the correct discs and pages. Well done! If I get some sleep, maybe I'll have enough energy to watch it.
On the other hand, this has been played a few times already this month: http://www.amazon.com/Rockabye-Baby-Lullabye-Renditions-Pixies/dp/B001BWGVFO

How long has the wait been for most Canadians(Specifically central Canadians)? I orderd mine a bit over two weeks ago, so I'm not complaining - i'm just wondering whether I should get my hopes up for it arriving this week. |

The Golem is the best thing to happen in the BFB universe in years... all the action on this thread being evidence thereof. It sure as hell is magnificent.

..not sure if this has been mentioned already
the golem was in a simpsons halloween episode
I didnt see it but it sounds pretty good
from wiki
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treehouse_of_Horror_XVII
At the end of an episode of Krusty's show, Bart goes backstage to complain about an acid-spraying Krusty brand alarm clock. There he finds the Golem of Prague, a creature from Jewish mythology, whose design is from the 1915 German expressionistic film, The Golem. Krusty tells Bart that in the seventeenth century, the Golem was sculpted out of clay by a powerful rabbi and would obey any command written on a scroll and placed in his mouth. Although the golem was created ostensibly to protect Jewish villages, he would obey any scroll placed in his mouth, evil or good. He had been passed down through many generations and now works for Krusty. Bart steals the Golem by writing a command for him to come to his home at midnight. At midnight, the Golem shows up at the Simpson's house. From then on, Bart uses him to carry out his commands: swinging Principal Skinner up and down like a yo-yo until he splits in half and kicking Homer's walls (the result of a misunderstanding). Lisa thinks the Golem does not like doing the biddings of others and feeds him a scroll reading "Speak". The Golem (Richard Lewis) attempts to roar, then coughs, and reveals that he is a decent being who feels guilty about being used to commit heinous acts, and then he throws up excessive scrolls (one of which reads "Kill the Czar"). To make him feel better, the Simpsons create a female Golem (Fran Drescher) out of Play-Doh. The two are married by Rabbi Hyman Krustofski and the female Golem convinces Chief Wiggum not to press charges with the promise of pan-fried latkes, a Jewish delicacy (though she only gets to the words "pan fried" before Wiggum agrees).

finally Der Golem arrived in central Europe, not in Worms, nor in Posen or in Nikolsburg, but at least in Vienna. i'll frame the unbroken seal in my little Frank Black Francis frame, that is already containing an autograph, a torn guitar string and an orange Dunlop U.S.A. pick and hanging in a little shrine near my bedroom. Willkommen in Österreich, lieber Golem!
you probably thought i'm a shy guy |

My Golem book is actually coming alive!!!
I really REALLY am enjoying this thing. The studio discs are VERY good! I've watched the DVD numerous times, and each time it's better and better.
My favorite parts:
The close up of the Golem looking around just after he's animated, and you hear Frank singing THE WORD...THE WORD... spooky and magical!
The guy who plays Loew's servant is GREAT! Great expressions without being as silent-actorishy as most silent actors were. (Silent acting was not know for it's subtleties, but this guy somehow channelled and delivered without much stylization. Only others I can think of are Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish)
OOOH! The synchronization of the Conjuring with the Rabbi actually conjuring (GIVE...IT...UP...TO...ME...GIVE...IT...TO...ME...NOW!)
The tinkling strings and guitar accompanying the starscape over the ghetto.
Anyone else want to comment on favorite parts?

I love the "love scene" where Miriam and Florian are clutching and gazing into each other's eyes. When he goes for her bosom it's so intense! I love the whole series of scenes when The Rabbi's assistant compels the golem to kill Florian. Simply riveting. I love the scene of golem with the little gentile girl. So beautiful and Frankenstein.
bf
I laugh every time when the Golem drops that poor little girl! Then the way he keels over backward is so weird.
Oh...and the floating head of Astaroth is particularly disturbing to me as something quite similar happened to me one awful night when I was 5 years old. I was suffering from an incredibly high temperature and was lulled into conciousness by the most vivid and incredible hallucinations. My entire bedroom was alive with all creatures great and small...sounds and music unheard and unearthly soundtacked the bizarre and wonderful circus partying in my bedroom. Glowing worms and pulsating ants treaded the moon-like valleys which were normally the popcorm asbestos of my ceiling...I was not afraid of any of this, on the contrary, I was amused and concerned my new friends would wake my parents! My hot brain continued to drown me in this madness for the better part of an hour when suddenly a face much like the Astaroth face floated into my room...it's visage spilling and seething smoke and sounds like Astaroth. This hallucination was somewhat scary...but it was thwarted by the appearance of a little gift-wrapped package the size of a Rubik's Cube with beautiful translucent blue wings. This particular creature flapped down to block my line of vision of this terrible head AND THEN BECKONED ME AWAY FROM THE SCENE TO MY PARENTS ROOM. I followed the winged present and spoke aloud with it (I can't remember what it was saying to me...and I'm not sure if the communication made much sense then either) right to the edge of my parents bed. Alarmed and recognizing something was wrong with me, they jumped up from bed and turned on the bedroom light. Doing this washed all the hallucinations away EXCEPT for that horrible floating Astaroth-type head (which I could still see all the way down the hall from my parents bedroom) and the little winged gift, which again blocked me from keeping too long a gaze on the head. I often wonder if these creatures were demon and angel (or whatever the equivalent is) struggling to steal me and save me.
I wound up in the ER that night in a tub of ice.
So, needless to say, the Astaroth head freaks me out!

i just read this..that's a solid story! ..i ended up in the ER when i was 5- due to a concussion from an intense neighborhood hide & go seek game..when i came too i was pretty scared cause my mother had just stepped out of the hospital room..but i don't think i had any visions of the astaroth.
