I would like to make a public thank you to Charles and The Bureacrat, they offered to replace my torn and bent copy of Der Golem for a new one, and offered to pay extra shipping etc. Which is really kind of them, especially as it is UK customs and Royal Mail who brutalised my copy.
As a 'review' of the the work ('album' demeans it somewhat), I can't praise highly enough, I have not listened to anything else since Saturday and it really is wonderful.
It has a real far reaching ambition. Not to criticise bluefinger (which is prob in my top 5 albums) but that seemed to be settled for what it is, a great album (which is no bad thing!) Der Golem on the other hand just aims high. It sounds BIG. Not just in terms of a fuller band, but if it wasn't the soundtrack of the silent film, you could imagine it being the soundtrack to some sort of epic end of the world movie. Still when the nuclear holocaust happens I know what I will have blasting on my ipod.
I am aware that long post is long, and my ramblings are dull, but is there a better opening line in a Frank Black song than in The Maharal?

Mine finally arrived!
Someone else can decide whether that's 304 or 309.
Done the studio discs -- excellent stuff -- and now for the live discs.
By the way, is everyone else copying or ripping the discs to their hard drives? It'd be gutting if they got damaged, since you can't replace them...
