OK, #92 just got in Montréal (Boucherville, actually). I had to pay 17$ in taxes and fees to get it. And I thought we had a free trade agreement with the US? Nevermind, this is dynamite.
Thanks!!!

BTW, the songs from Studio Disc 1 imported on iTunes list as "Unclassifiable". Hehe.

i didn;t have to pay duties or "brokerage fees" either. sweet.
i'm really liking the studio discs, i've been listening to them in my car. i'm out of home right now (blown hot water tank)and my dad's house doesn't have a dvd player and the one on my laptop is bust! fack. can't wait to screen the movie though...

#417 received here in Barcelona just a week ago.
No major issues about the packaging. The postman had a hard work trying to put all the jiffy bag inside the mailbox, but with no success. All five discs are correct, the booklet is in excellent shape (only the cover is a bit bended on the corners). I'm very happy with this special release!
I've watched the DVD three times by now and forgotten how many times must I have listened to the recordings: Studio and Live At The Castro Theater. I really love this movie and it's amazing how these tracks fit perfectly well as the soundtrack to the different scenes and moods and stories.
The only thing that I miss and it would have been great to have is a second audio track to watch the whole movie synchronized to the Castro Theater performance, and also some liner notes by BF.
I suggest some CD editing I did in order to have just two albums on my iPod (34 songs each one): simply split tracks 7, 9 and 14 from 1st live CD and merge tracks 1-2 and 10-11 from 2nd live CD.
By the way, my wife has a funny theory about the Makanujo song: she insist on telling me that BF sings Macanudo (this is a latinamerican adjective with many meanings: strong, tough, cool, great, awesome, etc.) every time the Golem breaks through, and she even sings it out loud all along! :P
NSE also rocks! 2010 will be a year to remember! |

I've got 423 by the way here in Dallas Texas. Man, some of these songs are just getting totally lodged in my mind/consciousness. I'm loving Custom All the Way, The Maharal: when he sings "And all of this for nothing after all my huffin' and puffin'" it's like I am gonna come right out of my skin. Some of the themes are so damn beautiful. Feel like crying almost. I think I really like all of the actual fully-formed songs quite a bit. The themes of the various songs and how they are repeated in various forms and instrumentations are really nice. Bravo Mr. T!
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |

I've been wondering what the origin of the name Makanujo is. With a lot of the terms from this album/movie (such as Maharal, Golem, grimoire), I've been able to find answers through Google or Wikipedia. But if you Google "Makanujo," it offers this thread as the first hit -- and nothing that suggests what it means.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

#465 wound up in Ottawa, Canada.
I enjoyed it from the very start, but it's growing on me still more as time goes on.

Welcome to the forums! I really like the Flower Song as well, its one of my favourites. I think it may be shorter than it otherwise would have because the songs are being timed to fit into the sequences of the film. Also, I like, as you said, how it leaves you wanting more
I agree too! Your comments brings to my mind a Wikipedia quote about Gil Norton's advice on increasing track lenght when recording Doolittle with the Pixies:
Norton's suggestions were not always welcome, and several instances of advice to add verses and increase track length contributed to the front man's building frustration. Eventually Francis took Norton to a record store, where he handed him a copy of Buddy Holly's Greatest Hits, in which most of the songs are about two minutes long. He told Norton, "If it's good enough for Buddy Holly..." |

Some of my favorite FB songs are two-minute gems -- Coastline and Rabbits, for example. Both those leave me wishing they'd been 10-minute epics. But it's really better to leave the listener wanting. Less is more, right?

I think someone (Coastline maybe?) mentioned this before - is there some instrumental music missing between Bad News and Astaroth - when comparing the studio disc version to the music when watching the film? Where did it go/was it edited out or inserted somewhere else on the studio disc maybe?

Yeah, I felt exatly the same listening to rabbits. But I miss the one-minute gems - you know, Pong, Alisson... I wish songs I love R'n'r or Captain Patsy were one minute long. |

Here is a rundown of pieces that are on the dvd soundtrack that were left off the Studio discs. They're not just shorter versions but different pieces altogether. I'll be posting a link to audio rips of them here for anyone interested once my Golem book arrives (still waiting!)
Youtube track no. 3. Interlude [15secs] 5. Bad News Theme [30secs] 10. Obedient Servant Theme [1min22] 13. Makanujo Theme [47secs] 22. The Word Theme [1min46] 25. Golem's Theme (Version 6) [25secs]

Yeah, same here. I don't think an album trimmed down to the main 15+ songs would do it justice.

Hey Grotesque, you asshole. Couldn't you have chosen another song than Pink Fucking Floyd to compare Makanujo to? I keep thinking about this post you wrote and I think you suck. You could have said "That song that sounds like A Dab'll Do Ya" or "Nadine" or, hell, "Road Movie To Berlin". Anything but the fucking Floyd. Fuck. Plus, Makanujo is cool.

Seconded but couldn't have happened to a nicer bastard.
#1 would have more than made up for the unbearably long wait (I ordered almost 4 weeks ago and still no sign).

Mine only took 10 days. Arrived in pretty good condition aswell. I think the #1 is seriously my most prized posession ever. Apart from the FB setlist I got when he played at Lake Buena Vista in October '06 maybe. Trying to hold off listening to the whole thing until I can watch the film. Trying to find the old 'rock album' tracklist in the meantime for an iPod playlist. |
