Everyday I log in, hoping to see this bumped to the top. Everyday disappointment. Apologies to anyone who saw this near the top of new posts and got all excited.

sorry for the double post but this is very important stuff. the following is from mark lemhouse as of July 5 at 11:04pm.
"What's up Mike?
I know you. We've traded e-mails before.
Sorry to hear Charles is skipping Winnipeg this year. I'll tell him Winnipeg needs love too.
We're so very close to getting The Golem done it's not even funny... It's pretty deep too. I'm having fun.
It's gonna win the Grammy for "Best Rock Album/Silent Film Soundtrack/Live Recording Ever." I'm sure of it.
Pass that on the the FB.net folks.
Hey keep in touch. Nice talkin' to you.
-M"
"I joined the Cult of Frank/ cause I'm a real go-getter!"...long live snitz!! |

So without sounding like too much of a dumdum, I guess there are a few steps to be executed between "getting done" and "winning the Grammy." Or for that matter "delivering a copy to Nate in the PDX." Who knows how long those remaining steps will take.
Really trying to be patient on this. Not trying to be greedy, especially with a BF and GD shows coming up in Portland. Just seems like we've been waiting for this record forever, and now it's so doggone close, and it sounds so freakin' great... |

The opening track is now up at Blackolero. It's a short instrumental called "You're Gonna Pay". I think a vocal version of the same closes the record.

Yeah very very nice and genuinly odd. Everything from that album seems to be fine. Like a mid tempo version of the very angry instrumental song he would have done different in another time. I think that's his natural pace nowadaysm and that's partly why the song is good. Punks are often good when they go slower with the age, like double nickels on the dime you know... limited speed... |

True, I can definitely hear this. One that would fit nicely into CoR. Or TotY.

But why the Sax?!? That's overdoing it, imo. |

BF got the chance to work with Tom Waits regular Ralph Carney. I'm sure he was glad of any contribution the great sax man made to his record.

Ah. That's interesting. Thanks for the info.
Still not my cup of tea. But maybe there will be more to come out of this collaboration? Tom Waits and Frank sound like a dream team to me. |

Wow. Have people listened to the live version of The Maharal? It's on the blackfrancis.net webpage at the bottom of the Dates section.
What an intro! Some harsh lead guitar. Some o' that sax (you said it all Mickey). The hype is upon me.
edit: Spelling. Maharl? My bad. |

(From the front of www.blackfrancis.net)
LATEST NEWS
::Report from Golem front by M. Lemhouse (Golem book designer):: The Golem book is being conjured as we speak. The amulet is being placed upon it's breast and it will be ready for mass consumption for the masses post haste. This "box set" will be in a book format with CD's included. 2 live performance Cd's of the live score, 2 Cd's of the studio recording and a DVD with the film score synced up to the original film. The book will include photographs of sheet music that was hand cut and pasted in with studio and live performance shots spread throughout totaling over 50 pages. The first page will be a hand pressed (from an 1860's letter press) title page that will note a number between 1 and 500 with Black Francis's autograph. Each book will be a one of a kind. ::That is all:: |

Haha, i am too. When i saw that there was a new post i lit up thinking "MAYBE IT GOT RELEASED!" Mark Lemhouse said it'd be out with great haste... a month ago. Based on that information i asked for money for it for my birthday because i thought that meant it'd be out in the next couple of weeks (my birthday was on the 4th). Oh well, at least they're creating something cool that they've put alot of blood, sweat and tears into - and it's pretty much bound to be awesome. But i'm also hoping for future releases a new model is considered - maybe independently releasing it digitally on his site or something, because physical music products are pretty much obsolete, and music fans have generally short attention spans now |

Slight update from blackfrancis.net
Date: 08-09-2009 Der Golem is coming to life as Mark Lemhouse, Jason Carter, and Black Francis have converged to finalize the DVD this week. Simultaneously, megabytes of 'Live in Nijmegen' information, as recorded by the Black Francis band, have been polished and prepared for insertion onto USB flash drives, which will soon be ready for consumption. That is all.

via the Grand Duchy facebook thing:
"...you will now finally be able to own Der Golem, a unique and shockingly fabulous collectors' item, (which should be available direct from The Bureau in time for the holidays)"
This somehow makes it feel both nearer and farther away... not unlike the punishment of Tantalus |

Charles has been posting what I think must be teasers from Der Golem on his Facebook page, cheeky monkey.
"If you want a chance at necromance if you need spirits stirred you must have a spark you must know the dark you must know the word"
"I am the Maharal I'm deep into the sod world of emanations world of creation world of formation world of action and the ten Sephirot I am the Maharal"
"I've seen it shine in Nikolsburg, seen it shine in Worms I've seen it shining down in Posen, too seems that it is shining no matter where I roam shining down shining on down"
"Florian loved Miriam her reddish brown he thinks of her smelling myrrh and her reddish brown when he went down"
"I smelled the wild broom it filled me up with joy 'till i saw my star of doom now I have no choice"
"your mother is dead and gone but I see the lovely ghost that's you and I can hear her walk"
"asleep in the ice I felt your warm hands your words awakened my heart"

mmm you know record industry changed a lot. Now if you sell 1000 you some kinda star. The problem for me is that I dont really care about the movie more than an inspiration source, as well as I didnt care care about Hermann Brood more than the main caracter of Bluefinger. I care about what BF made of that. And this is just songs. So I guess I'm just waiting for a straight rock album. |

wo ist der Golem?
I feel like this big bundle of joy has been leapfrogged attention-wise by Non-Stop Erotik, maybe because it's been in the can so long while Erotik is new new new. maybe this release will have to wait for the Pixies tour to end or something?
I was looking forward to giving it to myself as a Christmas present, maybe an early Christmas present (dare to dream)... Santa Charles, please make this little boy's Christmas dream come true... pathetic, I know, but there it is... |
