Go wild with your very own paranoid conspiracy theory conjecture on what exactly the fuck is going on with the Pixies in this thread please.
I reckon Violet is going to take Kim's place in the line-up, for a one-off show at the Isle of Wight, as an experiment to see if it works, because both Grand Duchy and Santiago/Lovering/Everybody(nearly) just happen to be playing the same festival, so they all thought fuck it let's try being the Pixies without Kim.
Of course that is complete made up bollocks and would be virtually unheard of.

I wish Grand Duchy would tour. A Pixies tour = more bucks but, c'mon, think of the fans, man!
Sorry to go off, topic...

I believe Pixies are touring Europe in the Summer of 2009. Kim said in some interview last year she'd do more Pixies shows when the other three were up for it, but they were all too busy having babies to play shows at the time of the interview. It seems Kim says whatever comes to mind without being responsible for her actions. |

I have lost some respect for Kim after seeing some of her interviews. I think she was a better musician when she was on drugs- listen to the latest breeders album compared to the ones before that- Mountain Battles is lacking inspiration. if she was smoking weed she would likely be more open to a new Pixies record. |

Haha. Yea- David Lovering and Joey Santiago+ tons of weed would probably amount to some of the greatest music of the year, add the pixies to that and :) Or maybe the Pixies should take lsd one night and record a new album throughout their trip- which would probably amount to their best album yet!!! |

No need for hard work or skill when one can just take a drug and produce a masterpiece. |

musician's secret don't spread the word- in all seriousness though, psychedelics can make people extremely creative and at the very least more open minded, which is what Kim Deal needs to be for a new Pixies album to happen |

Alex ..sorry to be judgemental, but get over the drug fascination! Although some of my favourite musicians were junkies, I have always admired that Charles/Frank has never revolved-around or relied on this for creativity. I have done my fair share in my teens & early 20's (x2) , but its great to be over it.
You are either creative or not. Take an art class instead. |

I prefer to have my music unadulterated by teachers. just pure music straight from the soul! I think I am creative generally, but honestly when I am high I come up with some really great song ideas. me and my friend have incredible jams, we have jammed around people and their mouths dropped in a good sort of way because of our music, it's kind of post rocky, melodic jams that end up rocking out at the end haha , sigur ros style- honestly but you are right, if someone isn't creative or over uses drugs they can def have a negative effect on the person.
i just wish kim wouldn't be stubborn towards a new album, even a new e.p. would be extremely exciting. if they announce a new album I will be really excited i think they can pull it off if they give it a shot!! maybe they will read this and be inspired!! garbage heap could have been an amazing pixie song, especially with joey santiago distortion guitar |

If Kim doesn't want in the pixies anymore then that is fine. But it would seriously take guts to go up on stage without Kim unfortunately. I doubt violet is going to take her place. She isn't nearly as good as a singer as Kim was....since she has smoked about 499,382,993 cigarettes and counting, her voice is getting pretty weak. Kinda like Mac from the Bunnymen, it's still good but it's not what it once was.
But I would still pay 40 bucks to see them play with Violet, so long as they change there damn set list. |

I think it'll be the four original members.
Am I surprised by this? Yes and No. Yes in that I never suspected there'd be another reunion and no because this is exactly how they would reunite. No warning...just...poof! Pixies.
Should they vary the set? A-men. Motorway should appear and get the Vamos or Gigantic treatment...rock that muthafucka out.
I also hope that if they know they're going to never reunite again, they come up with an amazing setlist and a great farewell performance. |

Oh god, I think the 'conspiracy thread' is going to give rise to confusion.
Understandably, there was a fair bit of speculation before the original reunion tour. However, the Pixies name will only ever be used for the four members together.
'Motorway' and 'Break My Body' appeared on the BF tour a year ago... let's hope they're in the set. And 'Rock Music'. And 'Hang Wire'. |

Hey, there's nothing wrong with getting high as means of creating inspiration. Tapping into your own creative energies is better than going to art school I say, you can't teach people to be creative, you can only teach people the skill needed to be so, you're either creative or your not, and if smoking some herbs helps to make you more creative then what wrong with that?
There are drugs that make people very stupid in todays world, and donot harness the creativity of people, drugs like money, work, convenience food, sport etc..
People have been using psychedelics as a creative inspiration for thousands of years, right back to when we lived in caves probably. There is a conjecture that language in modern civilised society may have developed as a result of people inadvertently consuming magic mushrooms in their diet. Now all of a sudden they are making people stupid?
This is getting a little bit off topic now though..

One of my favorite things about the Pixies is the mystery. I like that we don't ever know exactly what they will do. I like that they surprise us. I like the Kim vs. Frank thing.
If, somehow, I had ten different opportunities to see them in the next year, I'd go every single time and LOVE it! I never ever thought I'd have even one chance to see them because I became a fan after they split in the 90's. I agree with you guys though - I'd like to see a little setlist variation. |

There is also conjecture that that is just a wild guess with no empirical support.
Yes, people have been consuming mushrooms for along time, but that doesn't change the fact that they screw up your system. Sometimes enough to give you hallucinations and sometimes enough to kill you. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RisxckQlzc - Cnn mushroom study- long lasting benefits
Mushrooms do not screw up your system, and if you take enough to kill you, then you probably deserve it- as with all drugs or psychedelics- know the effects and know the dose- have a good set and setting- be responsible!! |

Of course there is no scientific proof for that. It does sound a reasonable theory though. Our very existence in its self is quite mirauclous, before we even start trying to work it all out, so to conject something like that to me seems quite palatable by comparison. What else might have acted as the catalyst in us forming highly complex patterns of communication?
I've only dome mushies a couple of times, a small amount, and i felt pretty good and it lasted a few days. Didn't do me any harm. They are not to be taken lightly though.

You're of course free to make up any theory that you want, but if you want a list of candidates of what may have contributed to the evolution of our "complex" communication they would include sex, communicating the location of food, coordinating the capture of food, avoiding predators, and the passing of information from one generation to the next. |

That's just focusing on that some of them will kill you. I don't really feel like searching for references that suggest causing your brain to malfunction is not great for your system. I think that it's pretty obvious that that is not good for your system (unless you want to believe otherwise).
Just think of it this way some mushrooms are really toxic and they kill you. Others are a little less toxic and they make your system not work properly. |

"The toxicity of psilocybin is relatively low; in rats, the oral LD50 is 280mg/kg, approximately one and a half times that of caffeine. When administered intravenously in rabbits, psilocybin's LD50 is approximately 12.5mg/kg[20] (however rabbits are extremely intolerant to the effects of most psychoactive drugs). The lethal dose from psilocybin toxicity alone is unknown at recreational or medicinal levels, and has never been documented. Psilocybin makes up roughly 1% of the weight of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, and so nearly 1.7 kilograms of dried mushrooms, or 17 kilograms of fresh mushrooms, would be required for a 60kg person to reach the 280mg/kg LD50 rate of rats."

For the first one I'd recommend alcohol. It will relax you and free you from your inhibitions enough in order to engage is a stupid mating ritual on the dance floor of your local meat market. If your planning on going hunting, I'd recommend waiting until after you've slaughtered the animal and cooked it before partaking in the consumptions of narcs. And the last one doesn't require any drugs, all you need are books.

Going back on topic, my conspircy is that I would really like to see the Pixies curate a festival in Chicago. The headliners would be the Pixies but other bands would include Grand Duchy, Breeders, Throwing Muses, Everybody, Art Brut and others close to the Pixies Family tree.
My other conspiracy is that the Pixies are waiting to see how reaction the Isle of Wright show goes. If there's enough buzz, they will continue to tour. |

Good conspiraceeeeez. TO expand on your idea of the Isle of Wright show- maybe they will test out a new song or two and see how the reactions are |

Well I did mushrooms once and I only gained positive from it. so what can I say. Although I wont deny that psychedelics can show you negative's about society too, but as Frank Black fans I think we understand that mainstream society doesn't get everything right....
Rather have more knowledge then be ignorant......... But back on topic------ I am really hoping the Pixies will do something exciting with this tour. Even if they added some songs to the set list like Bailey's Walk or Motorway To Roswell, that'd at least be a step up form last tour, but still a waste of fan excitement.. they need new music!! |

say what you want- but a study on CNN proved that msuhrooms have long lasting positive outlook for people
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RisxckQlzc you can't prove your side, and you certainly can't judge a mind state that you have never been in........ not saying psychedelics are for everyone, but many people claim numerous positive benefits from them, such as creativity, better outlook, being content with your life, etc.............. read up on the study's that were done on lsd before the government banned them- it helped people quit alcoholism and cured many ill people form just one trip- there are numerous benefits to be gained from psychedelics , but of course in drug free america- all you hear about is when someone does something stupid from a psychedelic- and even those stories don't happen often at all |

i remember reading an interview from the late 80s that said frank's tour bus was brimming with pot smoke
"some marijuana, if you've got some"
also shrooms inspired his kingly cave. and there's the entirety of smoke up, and "burning that joint on the long way home" in pan american highway, and...75% of bluefinger i guess, whether he's channeling herman brood or not. there are more i'm forgetting i'm sure. not implying he ever takes anything anymore, but frank's obviously never been adverse to them and drugs have had a bit of an influence in his lyrics
