I have taken lsd twice in my life and shrooms one time........... not sure how I am dependent on them? Answer: I am not. psychedelics are not meant to take on a regular basis- No one I know uses them on a regular basis ether. Psychedelic's are best taken on rare occasions with close friends and the right preparation before hand. A lot can be gained from a psychedelic experience. But I guess to you all drugs are the same............. Taking mushrooms is just like taking heroin or drinking alcohol.......

Drinking alcohol or coffee does not cause your brain to malfunction and perceive things that are not really present.

FB has no doubt tried them in his years..everyone has. ive done my fair share of drugs for 3 people, but you grow out of it.
You grow out of wasting your sundays on a come down, and your mondays at work feeling a little out of sync.. People have children and recreational drugs are no longer the focus of their lives. Using drugs for inspiration is a mess and a distraction...what are you lacking in life? Charles T has a natural artistic song-writing ability, with or without of drugs, he will create. I hardly think because he sang about them occasionally that he was wasted/tripping while he wrote the songs. And I hardly think that someone with his non-stop work ethic would find the time to parttake.
AND im guessing he never asked his favourite to write a song about him taking drugs.

You may not be dependant on LSD/pot, but you sure do talk about it a hell of a lot. Your focuses in life have an uncanny knack for becoming your destiny.

On the side:
And as for LSD assisting with alcoholism ???? Hardly a solution and extremely unrealistic. Cane toads were introduced into Australia to kill off Cane Pests - look what happened.

If you drink enough of either of those, you may very well start start hallucinating. It's called the "heeby jeebies" in Scotland.

I don't think you're correlation between people claiming to find lots of benefits from psychedelics and dependancy is very well thought out either, and you are plainly being very judgemental towards people who use them. Peoples lives get ruined by addictions to hard drugs like meth, heroin and rolling tobacco, they become dependent on them, but you never hear them claiming that they need to do it because it's good for them.

I've personally given up trying to explain to people that smoking pot benefits me in lots of ways, I just instead try to avoid negative people.

BACK ON TOPIC NOW I SAY... before I get in trouble from Dean and Brian for inadvertently hashing up the forum.

Sorry dude, please don't take this the wrong way, but that is a complete ball of crap. I didn't bring the subject of pot up in the first place, and I very rarely talk about it on here. I'd invite you to check my post history, but I don't really seem to have much of one anymore again...

And another thing, I've never tried LSD, let alone become dependent on it. That's another assumption you made about me.

Peace out fella.

pot- I am very with you- marijuana has numerous benefits- here's the most simple way of I have to explain it- but marijuana is comparable to art and having enjoyment in the way people use coffee for business. Psychedelics allow you to see outside of the rat race of life and be happy with yourself and your art- and also gives you increased creativity.

Darwin- Psychedelic's are not addictive like you say, and making generalizations when you don't have proof is absurd. You sound ignorant and stubborn- if it helps you get through life being that way, then I wish you the best of luck :P Calling lsd or mushrooms addictive is fucking absurd I have done lsd twice and mushrooms once in my life and I don't plan on doing them again anytime soon so if you really believe they are addictive you are insane, there is no evidence for your claim!

pot-Rather be a bit delusional then a boring robot/conformist no doubt!!

this is from david lovering's twitter- "Cleaning a bong and cleaning a gun are pretty the same in the redeeming qualities it gives you." " They say guns and alcohol don't mix. But, pot sure does!"

yes, and I don't want to jump to conclusions and I'm sure there are many ways to explain his twitters, but it disturbs me a bit. Not that I lie awake at night or something. He has my blessing
mixing pot and alcohol (or should I read it as mixing guns and pot?) and if he enjoys cleaning his bong or cleaning his gun, that's fine. As long as he doesn't hurt himself or others. I'm pretty sure we all agree that guns are made and used for hurting people or at least having the option to do so. I can understand that one can feel safe carrying a gun. Besides some people like to collect guns, just like I like to collect Frank Black-cd's. There's nothing wrong with that.

Pot-Yes I know that. Doesn't matter how normal things are, sometimes they can still give me shivers. Since I'm not a part of American society I'm maybe intolerant to they cultural believes. But I'm not that much of a cultural relativist. It is/was pretty normal in some cultures to cut the hand of a thief. And as with carrying a gun to feel safe, I can understand that cutting of people's hands can scare of thieves. That doesn't mean I can't be apposed to it.

Anyway, don't want to be all political on this forum. Let's actually forget my points of view and start another debate: the use of twitter by musicians, is it a blessing or a curse? No matter how much I like to have updates on a recording process, or a tour, information about personal believes or other things that are normally private can kill a lot of the magic of being a fan.

But still, David Lovering comes alive on his twitter. I used to know him as the drummer, now I know more things about him and his humor. That fascinates me about twitter, it can add another layer to your way you listen to music or how you look at your 'heroes'. Sometimes you will like it, sometimes you won't. But it's still fascinating.

Guns: Maybe he just likes to go shooting, like inanimate objects. I don't know, nor do I really care. I've just watched the first four series of Lost, so guns and punching people in the face when you disagree with them has now become permanently melded to my psyche.

As a vegetarian and a pacifist, I don't really have too much of a problem with hunting for food with guns, so long as the animals you are hunting are free to roam and not in some purposely designed park where the rich go to collect "trophies", and so long as the species you are hunting is not in danger of becoming extinct. People have always hunted for food, it's no big deal to me, I just choose to abstain from meat, the only difference is now people use guns instead of spears, and the only thing wrong with that I can think of is it possibly gives the prey a slightly unfair disadvantage.

I expect this is what Dave uses a gun for, or more probably shooting clay pigeons for practice, and that would explain why he has to clean his gun. Possessing a gun for protection would surely not demand regular cleaning, same as possessing a bong for ornamental purposes wouldn't either.

There is nothing I find particularly disturbing about that.

Twitter: I personally like the way you can send a message to your rock heroes via the internet, via twitter, twatter or whatever. I'm surprised by how many of them actually respond too. It's not like I sit around all day stalking the stars, but occassionally when I hear an album and I am really inspired by it I'll hook up with the band on myspace, to keep in touch with new tour dates and stuff, and sometimes I'll send them a message saying how awesome I think they're new album is or something, and very often they respond, so I think they appreciate the compliment. It's usually the up and coming bands who respond though, the more established ones already know they are awesome.

I know it's easy to be very cynical about it all, but I find it all a very useful tool for keeping up to date with bands, 10 or 15 years ago we all had to rely on television, radio and magazines for up to date information, now we can all get it the minute it comes out, practically anywhere we might happen to be. I've communicated with all but one member of my favourite band from the comfort of my armchair, and I personally think that is just brilliant!

The thread must have been close to a correct
conclusion, and then certain unnamed forces
came in to distract the line of thought.

I've seen this again and again, it is
conspiracy because it takes at least two to
take these tangents, on purpose.

Tangents happen, it's not a conspiracy, and no-one to the best of knowledge is doing it on purpose. It's just the natural flow of conversation.

The Pixies yesterday announced that they were going to play 23 consecutive shows in New York on facebook.

It later turned out, of course, to be an april fool's prank.

But why did they not announce that they were releasing a new album as an april fool?

Maybe because they are in fact planning to release a new album!

I'm onto them...

Well, they are old college friends, and it would seem reasonable to think they would want to meet up to discuss the tour and stuff anyway.

My theory was purposely deluded, I didn't really take it that seriously. But I guess at least they are not wanting to rule out the possibility of a new album, nor raise further suspicions that they might in fact be working on one by crying wolf.

Maybe if the three of them are trying pull something together, and they come up with something and they ask Kim to contribute to it, I think she would because they'd all make a lot of money out of it, and who knows it might even be quite good.

I'm just getting in on this thread, but i'm going to make myself clear: SkateAlex - by saying someone's sobriety is a cause for their lack of creativity/ambition, you're an asshole. Plain and simple.

Drugs may be a fun thing for many of us, but some people have serious problems, and criticizing people for getting help with those problems is a pretty ridiculous thing to say. That is like saying someone was "a better artist before they got cancer treatment" - addiction is a disease just like cancer is a disease.

So, fuck you, let's move on with this thread without sophomoric twats throwing their stupid blind rage at the ill.
