jimmy, that's so funny! Coming on the forum and telling us that kids with ADHD and/or dyslexia are faking it and it's really just a case of the parents not having raised them right. What a kidder you are!

i watched about five minutes and the guy started listing all these diseases and making it sound all doom and gloom. medicine has made a lot of advancements, life expectancy keeps going up. what is funny is we're told by the likes of you that we're constantly put in a state of fear by the government and media, and then you try to convince us the world is run by evil people who are trying to kill us.

You mean you're not convinced yet? Son of a bitch! I'm going to have to start over.
The problem with people the likes of you is that you only put five fucking minutes into very informative material that requires much more than that to make it's point.
Sorry we can't address it with sound bites Steve.

If it were purely genetic it could easily still happen because her kids aren't identical twins. They have different genes. In fact, on average they share only half of each others genes. |

i know all this. the point is, it's just anecdotal evidence that doesn't say anything for sure either way. what conclusion could you really make if all/none of her children had ADD? i'm sure we agree on this.

ADD very likely comes from exposing children to too much television.

There's also an interesting theory about taking people that are more suited to the old lifestyle of working farms and such and forcing them to sit in these learning institutions and trying to get them to learn from a style of learning they are unsuited for.
That make any sense at all?

I thought we should all still be working in farms (and dying at an early age due to tragic husbandry accidents) because today's sterile environments are causing us to become allergic and have wimpy immune systems? So now there's a second reason why we shouldn't have given up a life of toiling in the fields?

I agree that the drugs and the syndrome are overused.
I've had a kid with ADD for 14 years. The symptoms were obvious pretty much from the getgo. Something is just plain different with this kid. Always has been. At worst, he just seems to be in perpetual confusion. You probably have to explain things a couple times. You might have to just give him thirty more seconds for him to comprehend a situation. He's smart, but it does seem to take longer to comprehend things. And that is exactly why school is so difficult for him. Its taught me alot about patience to say the least.
But I've got to say, when a kid has ADD, a kid has ADD. Overusage of the diagnosis does not mean it does not exist.

From an alternative health perspective they are finding often times if you can eliminate all processed foods that would contain chemicals and colorings and such your kid may normalize. Why is it always male children though?
Uh, oh. One of these says the exposure damage is from during pregnancy with the child. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=chemical+additives+and+Attention+deficit+disorder&btnG=Search
But I have read of people eliminating this stuff from their children's diets and the kids subsequently improving.

this i don't understand. i thought humans and chimps had different genetic code only by a few percent. what does that half of each other's genes in humans mean?

Diet is super important. We stay away from processed foods as much as possible. I stay at home so there's alot of home cooking. Water intake is also important. He also takes quite a few herbs and vitamins. Guess what? He still has ADD.
He went to a school for kids with focusing issues for a couple of years. There was like 5 girls in the entire school. It definitely is a male thing.
Alot of doctors also think it has to do with exposure to lead and/or other heavy metals.

Some people think its genetic from the father's side.
Some people think its due to a chronically sleep deprived state, like a sleep apnea or directly correlated with tonsils and adenoids.
Some books and doctors say that you can see it in a brain scan. Lack of neurotransmitters and synapse type things.
What worked best for my son is puberty. He's still ADD but the symptoms have lessened since.

I think there are many kids who have genuine symptoms of what could be called ADD or ADHD, they're otherwise intelligent kids who process information differently due to a natural excess of energy. And they would probably make up 15% of the kids diognosed with the disorder. The rest are undisciplined or misdiagnosed.
If anyone is angry with me I'd just like to say in my defense that I know next to nothing about the subject and I'm not a parent, teacher, or doctor.
**I also believe that many cases ( maybe half ) of asthma are psychosomatic. So many people with "asthma" are unbelieveably prissy and sensitive. I've noticed 'asthma" usually strikes moody chubby girls, the kind who want to outlaw smoking and require all young citizens to do "volunteer" work in third-world countries.
