I also put a whole lot of effort into your snooze-fest on "critical thinking on conspiracy theories". The problem seemed to be that you couldn't grasp the idea of that type of reasoning (as it was laid out in that paper) is very likely designed by people who want you to discount all government conspiracy as craziness. I assume you were you taught that in a government funded school?

It feels like nuclear war is happening on some of these threads.

Sigh.

Pssst, Darwin, I was making reference to all the "experts" who in the 70's predicted a deep freeze. It was on the cover of newsweek. This is junk science. First they scare you, THEN THEY come up with a solution to protect us all.
Thanks for the history lesson---you are soooo smart

Well, then you used the wrong words. "Nuclear Winter" refers to the hypothesis that temperatures will drop after a nuclear war.

First of all, I did a little dance when I saw that fb.net's own naughty nurse is back. Where's the emoticon for waving wildly with a stupid grin on my face?

Now, let's do talk conspiracies!

From here, www.cspinet.org/quorn/form.html , I quote KOK-stylee

Quorn is made from a fungus that is grown in a vat like bacteria rather than plucked from the ground like a mushroom. The chemically treated fungus is processed to simulate chicken or beef. Quorn has been available in the UK since the mid-1980s and more recently became available elsewhere in Europe and in the U.S. Quorn causes allergic reactions, including vomiting, diarrhea, and hives in some consumers.

The only people that scare me are the ones who who attacked us on 9/11. I guess this is where the argument ends because you think Bush blew up the towers. As far as I know our government wa
s doing nothing when we were attacked. Will the government try to manipulate the situation to tax us more and take away our freedoms? Of course they will but we were still attacked and there is a war going on---take it leave it. Do I need to list all of the attacks all over the world for you not to realize there is a war going on? Did the US government kill Theo Van Gough to scare us?

Farm raised Talpia (a fish) is suppose to be a pretty good ecological choice.

mmm! seriously, though - have you tried it? growing fungi in industrial vats doesn't seem half as gross to me as the way most livestock is raised, and i've had two friends hospitalized in the last year after getting e. coli from fresh veggies. bring on the protein mold, baby.

how so and why that fish? They use a lot of chemicals to keep the fish lice free, though that's probably better than flatulent cows.

All I know is them being farmed-raised avoids depleting the oceans, they aren't a threat to native populations (as least as much as salmon that escape and mate with native populations, and spread diseases), and I think they're pretty efficient (i.e. you don't burn a lot of fuel to raise them). The Monterrey Bay Aquarium puts out a list of fish to buy and to avoid, and farm-raised Talipia I think is always on the buy list.

I have never heard of Quorn. Hmm...

I tried to go meatless. It lasted for about 2 days.

I think it was lack of planning. I did not realize
how much food I ate was meat or meat related.

A friend of mine cooked Tofu once and I tried it.
I really liked it, but I lost touch with my friend and
I can't seem to cook it right.

I was vegetarian for a few years, and lived on Quorn, Linda McCarthney burgers, Sosmix and brocolli.

Why did you go veg, Carl? And why did you go back to meat? (I know, I know, "Because tofu tastes like your shoe.") Seriously, why?

I was veg for 24+ years, including two excruciating months vegan, and am interested in these things.

Well, I felt uncomfortable about it. I didn't like the idea of supporting the meat industry, I suppose. To be honest, I found it hard-I was a bit more picky about food then). Never went vegan but a my brother and a friend were for a while. Soya milk is so dry tasting. I think it was one Christmas when I finally gave in and started eating meat again, probably a time of weakness for a lot of ex-vegetarians! I've always been anti-hunting, but in a way that's probably generally less cruel than the slaughterhouse.

Sorry but cow milk is disgusting. It comes out of a cow's udder and how much grosser than that can you get? Don't make me go Noisy on you all.

But cheese? Ohhhh the glory of a good stinky gorgonzola.

I'm getting sick of this response. Everybody was getting along until KOK came in and made a snarky response about the thread being locked. Then insulted me and admitted that he acts like an asshole as a "shtick". The blame isn't equal and you shouldn't perpetuate that it is.
