Has anybody received the downloads yet? I think it's 6 or 7 pm in England when are they going to e-mail us the downloads. I can't wait.

I just downloaded mine. I don't think I'll get the chance to listen until this evening though, which sucks just a little. Stupid downloads.

How much did people pay? I went with 5 English pounds.

This album is a little bit special. There are moments of it that are truly transcendent, and it flows brilliantly. Can't stop listening to it! Most exciting music i've heard in ages, and i didn't really think 'Amnesiac' or 'Hail to the thief' were great aside from a song or two.

As a follow on to my earlier message, i feel i should lavish yet more praise on this album. I've listened to every song 7 or 8 times today already, and the only song that doesn't score top marks with me is 'House of Cards', and it's still very good. I know this is a Frank Black site but i'm a bit surprised more people are not spazzing out over this album on here. Its just really beautiful and inspiring. Record of the year (or more)?

Am I the only person that felt the need to pay for it? Granted, I only dropped 2 quid, but at least it was something.

Yeah
Especially since atease keeps locking up
I thought there was more of a fan correlation than this.

This could arguably be RH's best. And the scary part is that we've only heard half of it.

This version of "HOC" is a major improvement over the live stuff last year.

Who here wants to put up their mp3s for the rest of us to listen to? The Radiohead sites seem overwhelmed, and I'd love to hear this album.

'Reckoner' and 'Faust arp' were the biggest surprises for me, i love both. A new sound for them, great orchestrations. Btw, Beersnob, with regards to Atease being fucked, there is another message board i found with alot of In Rainbows discussion on it- http://www.mortigitempo.com/

The easiest way, I've found, is to use sendspace.com. Put all your mp3s in a zip file and upload it with sendspace. It's not really kosher to post the download link on this forum, though. Most people do their trading by e-mail here.

EDIT: I'm referring to commercial material, not bootlegs, by the way. Bootlegs are freely traded here.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I stopped listening to Radiohead when they quit using those quaint old things called melodies. I was big on "The Bends" and I liked "OK Computer," but after that, I found the music too difficult to get. I'm hoping this new one is a return to what I liked. A friend called me this morning to say he'd heard the single (don't know the name) on the radio this morning and really liked it. So I'm hopeful.

you get it yet?

if your a bends guy, the most accessible tracks might be "body snatchers", "jig saw falling into place", "Arpeggi" and "15 step"

Wow i had no idea there was a single. And Coastline, i think this album is probably there most accessible since OK Computer, it's got great melodies although it's still challenging. It's also weirdly relaxed.

"nude" has one of the most perfect melodies ever in my opinion!

the suggestion that radiohead abandoned melodies after OK computer is false.

I'm either waiting for a super-virus to be released simultaneously on millions of computer (carried via In Rainbows mp3) or millions of credit cards to be overcharged in the next few weeks.

Something's fishy about a "free" release. Nothing is free. Radiohead is determined to destroy civilization in order to fulfill their own self-prophecy.

i paid 0:00 billables (pounds) for it.

after 4 mickeys fine malt liqours and a shot (yes, a shot) of woodford reserve kentucky bourbon (staight outta versailles), here's my analysis:

awesome album by a band whose albums are assumed to be awesome, to the detriment of the band (or at least to the focus of their creative output). "Hail to the Thief" is a cool album. it's got some good stuff on there, if not the whole damn thing, but it feels like radiohead saying "we can still have hooks AND have beats that don't actually require the 5 members in the band."

"in rainbows" just sounds like the five musicians who made all those other critically acclaimed albums making the music they want to make: songs that vibe, songs that rock, pretty songs, songs that ebb and swell. no band can be anything other than people making music, and hopefully maybe people who aren't in the band will want to listen to this music.

how about a little timeline?
pablo honey: band makes album of popular music style/ show (to those who care) they have more to offer.

the bends: band delivers on potential/ inspires new music benchmark of excellence ( see TRAVIS, COLDPLAY, etc.)

ok computer: exceeds expectations/ sets band up for failure.

kid a: band knows it can only disappoint, so makes an album that doesn't even try (while simultaneously upping their hype). 'kid a' is great (personal opinion).

amnesiac: conclusion (and more accessible set) of 'kid a' sessions/ cements their desire to try to go against the flow.

hail to the thief: dense album chock full of hooky songs in the radiohead vein/ rests on laurels, yet maintains critically- (and seemingly self-) imposed benchmark.

in rainbows: 5 guys who want to make good songs just so happen to make a great album (who knew?).

honestly, i hear no hang-ups about their previous work in this album. for instance, "bodysnatchers" wouldn't have ended up on 'kid a' if it was around then (at least in its official version) because it is too "just"-y. but here it is, in all its glory.

my favorite thing about CHARLES THOMPSON is that he insists he just writes songs. as much as i heap praise/importance/significance on his music, they're just songs. 4 minute ditties about UFOs, love lost, and love reciprocated, and things that personally interest Charles. bands that feel like they are anything more than that are fooling themselves. it seems RADIOHEAD have realized they really don't owe anyone (or themselves) anything.

i hope they continue making albums past their seventh, and i hope they do it in a flippant manner rather than a "middle finger-to-the-critics/expectations" manner.

I'll have to agree to one of the previous responders. There is a sever lack of melody, which brings me to boredom after the 3rd listen. Radiohead has focused on more of the technicalities, and not on the basics.

If you can't summerize a song with simply a guitar and voice, then it hasn't been written/thought out thoroughly.

I wanted to pay 1 euro, but somehow it wouldn't let me pay 0,669 GBP. Maybe I will buy it again, for now, just downloading!
