i just got back from bloc party - way better than the first time i saw them (2005?). they have learned how to perform live. not even near a mogwai though...

i flew to australia in march to see mogwai at 2 shows.
was very very good.
first gig (brisbane) was fucking awesome, whereas 2nd show (melbourne) was filled with a wanker crowd...
but they are so very good at what they do.
and to top it off, i think i just won a competition over at brightlight:
http://brightlight-youngteam.blogspot.com/

seen them 5 times now (london 2003 twice, 2004 atp, and 2009 aus, and the 2nd london show in october 2003 was the best - best gig i've ever been too in fact....

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

Just saw them for the third time. Best live band I've ever seen. Hands down.

Saw them or going to see them? I like that band and I bet they're pretty kick ass live.

June 21 - Ted Leo/Pharmacists and Titus Andronicus
June 27 - Dr. Dog (free)
July 13 - Wilco
July 18 - Built to Spill/Grand Duchy (free)

"The Freewheeling" Yo La Tengo tomorrow. It's going to be an accoustic set. And supposedly they take requests most of the time. Has anybody from here seen them on this tour? The youtube vids from Paris sound nice. I'm not familiar with their catalouge. Anything I should request?

Oh, and then there's Morrissey on friday. Nice opener and closer of the week.

Why would you want to hurt me like that?

I would brush off a few of those onions and then dive in. Crap.

Same here. But for me, it was THE best show I've seen. Three hours of divinity, and he even skipped on and off the stage between encores. Saw him at Red Rocks, which is a beautiful place for a concert.

was at the wpg folk fest last night. talked to 3 people who said the best show they ever saw was leonard cohen. i can't believe i didn't go see him when he was in town.

folk fest was great. cool crisp night. down to 8 degrees. last time i was there it was 30. josh ritter was amazing. one of my new favorite artists. happiest guy i've ever seen on stage..some of my fav's- to the dogs or whoever, right moves, real long distance, wolves...

iron and wine was good. neko case has an amazing voice...the band didn't seem like themselves. neko said kelly hogan wasn't there cause there was a death in the family.

I've seen concert videos. He does seem genuinely happy -- infectiously so. I just bought tix for later this month. My wife said she'd go to one show with me later this month -- either Josh Ritter or Black Francis. We're going to Josh.

Never bought a Coldplay CD. Never listened to a Coldplay CD. Never really wanted to buy a Coldplay CD. Saw Coldplay with a free ticket tonight. Damn...that was a great show. Plus they handed out a free Coldplay cd to everyone. Nice! Really surprised.

Chris Martin's a pretty funny guy. If I had been able to take a hit of ecstasy or get high without risking my job due to randoms at work would have been even more fun: great light show and great sound.

Went to see Yann Tiersen, his sound is very different from it used to be, as he's most known for his soundtracks, now, with a new sound, was really a great show!
Leonard Cohen is coming to Lisbon, I'm already feeling sad because I won't be able to go. And jealous Floop, really feeling jealousy!

Wow, great seats and photos!!

I just found a really excellent add-on if you use itunes to listen to your music on your computer. I have tended to miss announcements for concerts that I want to attend until after the fact. iconcertcal is the name of the plug in, and it analyzes the artists in your itunes library and then gives you a calendar that shows all the upcoming shows, and even cd releases. Pretty cool. You can also buy the app for your iphone, but the one for itunes is free.

saw franz ferdinand last night. got tickets at the last minute..glad i went..they put on a pretty good show..my ears are still ringing..they ended with some rave like song- lucid dreams that was pretty cool..funny thing..i started to feel all trippy even though i wasn't on anything...started thinking about 10-20 years ago when you actually had to line up in the morning at ticketmaster for way too many hours to get shitty concert tickets!

You know we were in Winnipeg the day of that acdc show.
We were going to try to go but we had e-town tix. (Which I tried to get Mike to sell b/c they were worth so much...)
We ended up following the stage and pyrotechnic convoy to Regina on the way home.

I wanted a pic at portage and main, but you guys don't have perpendicular street signs!

you made the right choice...unless you were within 10 rows i heard the show wasn't very good because you couldn't see anything and it wasn't loud enough..never heard of e-town....is it like a rave for kidz?

yes...no perpendicular signs...we're an indie city...we don't want to look the part of those nice fancy cities...

You're welcome! Yeah, I've missed several great shows this summer because I forgot to check even though I had vague idea certain bands were coming to play.

When I loaded the app I got a little excited because somehow it set my location as Atlanta instead of Dallas, and there were several shows that immediately popped up that I hadn't heard about. Alas, in most cases they weren't coming here.

e-town is Edmonton silly.
How did I miss that sign?!?!

Mike had 10th row tix here,
a thunder storm started about 3 songs in.

I don't understand why they didn't start with For those about to rock.
You can't have that as an encore song, then it should be for those who just did rock....;)

haha..learn something new everyday! we had thunder before the show...but no rain...

my friend said the exact same thing for those about to rock in an email after i gave my buddies the review..no kidding!

"...Nice summary Mike. One question. Why did they play, For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)... at the end? The fans were not about to rock, they (hopefully) had just finished rocking..."

they should finish with big balls....i knew the setlist in advance...it's the same every single show..so i would yell out before each song something like...."please play back in black! i love that song!"....i got some good laughs and "wow..maybe they are taking your requests?" ...it was good for the first 3 songs then after that i could tell i was really starting to annoy some people....so i shut up and had a beer...

Saw the Weakerthans and Rock Plaza Central on Friday - a fantastic night of Canadian rock and/or roll.

Took in the Mark Mulcahy tribute show last night featuring Frank Black. Great show.

Wednesday i'm seeing the Minus 5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn IV - should be great.
