currently listening to Hall & Oates - Starting All Over Again
No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God George Bush snr
Did you know that CCR are from Stockton, California and no one in the band was born in the Bayou? If you haven't heard of Stockton, it's because there's no reason you should have.
It seems like CCR is associated with Southern rock - I just think it's weird that they're really from California. Also, I think it's weird that Lynyrd Skynyrd sings "Sweet Home Alabama" but the band is from Florida.

Yeah, I knew about that. I guess it makes their music even more interesting and appealing to me. The fact that Fogerty has built his own mystery and mythology is indeed the mark of a great mind.
pas de bras pas de chocolat
Even better, Fogarty's never even been to Lodi (a dusty town near Stockton - I went skydiving there). He just though it was a cool name for a city. I've been to Lodi - John, you don't need to go. Really, you're not missing anything unless you like planes and skydiving.
Apparently, they're not even from Stockton, they're from El Cerrito (right next to Berkeley). Even better!
Pavement formed in Stockton, but they're really mostly from Virginia.

Well I've been to Lodi, can't remember much about it though.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" was written in reaction to something by Neil Young (or so I thought).

As close to truly original as I have heard in music in ages. Certainly not like anything I have heard anyway.

She's About a Mover - Sir Dougas Quintet
I'm so obsessed with Doug Sahm right now. Not all of his stuff was great, but many of his songs blow me away. I'm also on a huge Elvis Costello jag right now. And with him all of his songs blow me away. Except "She." I can't stand that song.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

So long as they're all "value-added" posts, like when you include YouTube links or whatever, I can't see any reason to shut down a thread. Lists are indeed lame, but so far this thread isn't a list.
A value added list? hmmm....
I should lock this thread. If a good number of the posts are "song x by artist y" (which looks likely) then it gets locked down.
Idiot. |

Y, 'X'.
Oh come on! You always knew I was gonna do that.
Sorry guys but I find music something that's really hard, and in many ways pointless to try and describe. I obviously like it otherwise I wouldn't be listening to it, and I'm not gonna force it down anyone's throat.
Plus when you do mention that you like a band/song, it invariably enourages someone to go on about how much they hate them, which kind of puts you off talking about them. Like I would hope to do if someone went on about Bright Eyes. Or floop with Wilco.

So anyone into Battles - is this worth buying (the whole album)? I hear the preview of Atlas and think "Emerge" by fischerspooner. And the other stuff sounds like Man Or Astroman meets Devo. Am I way off? I like that kind of music, but in very small doses.

Ask HPM - I've only heard the tracks on their Myspace page. I like it ,difficult to categorize the sound and say who they sound like though. |

The lead track from the EP is very good. They are playing it on MTV2 now. It was written, as was most of the EP, between the two albums. Most of them are on the extras of the live DVD they released. They are all good songs, so I can't wait to hear them on the EP.

I'm listening to 'This Summer' by Squeeze. "This summer there won't be a cloud in the sky" goes the lyric. I wish.
I've been listening to Squeeze a lot lately.

That's a good one, cassandra is. An under-rated song ( "The River" Throwing Muses ). Of all the songs Tanya Donelly wrote for the band, that one sounds the most like "a Throwing Muses song".
Right now I like Elvis Costello's "Lovers Walk", and Aimee Mann's "Frankenstein".
