I recently was introduced to Frank Black by my good friend, kfs. I have only heard a few of his songs, but kfs is helping me in this department. I am hooked. I don't even want to listen to anything else. I love his lyrics and his voice is amazing. Can't get enough. I am looking forward to talking to everyone. |

She's the one with the pink shirt and receding hairline here. A little masculine, if you ask me.

Hey guys, I am so glad to a part of this. This is so cool. I listened to Nadine and I was hooked. I have liked everything I have heard so far. Fast man, Speedy Marie is my favorite. This is where I got awestruck. Kinda a play on "Nothing can strike me in such awe." Thought it fit me since that is how i feel about the music. |

Is Honeycomb a song or an album?

It's both. The song is on the album of the same name. I think he was referring to the album though. And there is the album 'Fastman/Raiderman', which the song Fast Man is on.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I am still learning. I haven't heard the entire album though. |

I don't know. Is there really a Frank Black song that would be appropriate for a wedding? |

I am sooo happy to get so many responses. I was quite nervous about this b/c I don't know many FB songs. I am a fast learner though. I listened and looked at the lyrics to fast man. Lyrics are great, but i need to think about his deeper meaning a bit. That is why his stuff is so great.

Don't look for deep meaning in that song -- or much of that album. Find a song called "All My Ghosts," on the first Frank Black and the Catholics album. I've yet to hear a good explanation of what that song's about.
So glad to hear somebody embracing Frank Black so willingly. Honestly, it takes most people a long time -- if ever -- to really get anything he does. He's not pop music, and he even throws his fans a lot when he changes styles. There are many people on this board who didn't like the Nashville turn a few years ago, and there are others who don't like the sound of the Catholics era (much of it was recorded "live," with very little production). But I think you've turned down an intricate path, and there's plenty to choose from along the way.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Yeah, but your at-the-urinal-next-to-Frank post was an absolute classic, gyaneshwar. It was worth 1,000 regular posts. You should have two honeybees under your name.

Awestruck's racked up so many posts because he's reminding us of that first chill when it dawned just how good the man is. That was almost 20 years ago for me. Awestruck, savour each discovery from the catalogue. I envy you man.
Having said that there's one song in particular that sounds as fresh to me as the first time I heard it in 1989. Dead off Doolittle. An extraordinary song locked in ambergris. At the Pixies' farewell gig at the Mean Fiddler in 1990 there was no setlist. Three songs in I scream out "Dead" and David, god bless him, drums in the intro. I got my favourite rock n roll song played by request by my favourite band at their farewell gig. Just lucky I guess.

That reminds me of another story. I had this friend, a really beautiful friend. I introduced her to Pixies and she fell completely for them. Then a couple of months later we saw Charles on the telly, on Snub - an Indie music programme, and she was shocked that he kind of looked ordinary. She stopped listening to them. Can you believe that! Any case I always thought he looked cherubic back then.

well, that's one reason why i like the catholics that much. it's real, unmasked - no make up, raw... i listen to many bands with little production. i am a fan of this kind of work. but i have to admit: there's nothing against a nice little pop tune, from time to time! :)
