There is a slight similarity...when you finally hear it, think the "ah ah ah's" in Velouria. We will wade in the tides of the summer part.
A slight similarity? Not that I've heard it but I would have said the comparisons were huge.
The way this track hasn't spread about fascinates me.

!n 1948 a Frank Black fan passsed around a copy of fORT WayNE to other Frank fans. That night Frank BLACK! Came to the fans house and killed the fan to death in front of his family and in his art deco apartment? If you pass fort Wayne to other people Frank black will do the same to you… Copy and paste this three time to be saved!

After verification to some HSFBS (Hyper Secret Franck Black Spies), it's seems allright to talk a bit about Fort Wayne. It's a very **** song (the word has two o). A lot of people could **** it (begins with a l, ends with a e). I mean, I dig everything Frank Black ever did, but this is more like what my friends like (I dont want to use the p word but you KNOW what i mean, dont you ?). And also, this is classic indy rock. The master finally going back to the style he invented, something like that. |

You should write chain letters for a living, S. I love it. Especially the part about him killing the fan to death. Hilarious.
Oh, and I agree with Grotesque. "Fort Wayne" could easily become a popular song. I think it has great mass appeal. It's incredibly catchy. And having Violet sing along seems to take the edge off "weird Frank Black," which is how I think he's seen by the masses.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

If I had heard the song, I would find myself enjoying the guitar work, which albeit simple, might be rather 'Teenager'-esque. I would consider it to big production, epic sounding.

I hope by coming out this can help others...so they can help share the love of this super awesome song. It's way to good to hide!!!I love every four minutes and 12 seconds of it. I hope they don't change a thing when it is released.
Fort Wayne is my new favorite song. It is super dreamy and airy in most of it. It has a very mellow feel to it but it also has a very catchy/rockin aspect to it. I think a sign of a good song is you can listen to it over and over without getting sick of it. That's the way Fort Wayne is.
I can't tell for sure but it sounds like there is a keyboard that sounds like a xylophone. There's also an acoustic and electric guitar (with distortion!!) and drums that sound like a snare drum. Please correct me, because I am not a musician about all this instrumental stuff.
I am really having a hard time coming up with what the song sounds like. If it reminds me of something, it reminds me of Pixies something mellow from the Doolittle-TLM era. But of course, "mellow" is relative and it still rocks your socks off!!
I don't understand all the lyrics yet, but I would say the vocals definately stand out. Of course there is Black Francis singing in his awesome voice, but my favorite part of the song is Violet's vocals. It's cool when she starts singing on different parts of it. She has some beautiful lalalalalalala's that sound like an angel. Then there is this cool part where the drum comes up and the acoustic goes away and she is more authoritative sounding and she says "I can't decide..." and she things "these things in my hear-hear-ar-ar-ar-heart" or something close to that. Then she starts singing in French. It is so sweet and beautiful.
But don't get me wrong, it's also a cool rock and roll song. It grabbed me from the first listen and now I am under its spell. It's one of those songs I think most people would have a hard time not really liking if they are into Frank Black and Pixies or just a alt rock fan in general.
PS IceMan... send me an email.
PPS I hope that everyone who has heard Fort Wayne buys a copy of Bluefiger and Grand Duchy because it is only fair to pay the artists for what you have gotten for free.
PPPS? I can't believe I put a PS and PPS to this lol!

Yes, there's a synth part on some sort of mallet percussion voice. Of course, electric and acoustic guitar. It's hard to tell with the bass though. At times it sounds like a real bass, and at other times like a keyboard part, or even a cello. There's a stripped-down drum set, too. I don't know if there's any cymbals on it, but there is snare, kick, and at least a floor tom. (I could be wrong with any of this. There's always room for error.) And then there's the vocals. The beautiful, beautiful vocals. It's hard to make out exactly what's being played where. I'd love to get these tracks in my studio so I could remix them.

Daisy Girl's post about Fort Wayne made me very, very curios about it. The can't wait kind of curious. Can someone please send me the song? Please? I live in Brazil, where Frank Black's albums are really hard to come by, but have them all anyway (except for Cristmass - for now), and intend to keep it that way with the upcoming ones. I've looked for the song everywhere but can't find it. I don't have enough posts in the forum to e-mail anyone. Can someone please send it to me? Thanks in advance.

The bass: I'd say a guitar line or a ukulele line pitched one octave down. The drums: to me it could be B F himself. It sounds like what he did when he played the drums of Czar. But it might be a good sounding electronic / sampled drum.
EDIT: what I said there is complete crap. |
