Hi,
here is the thread for all new and cool grand duchy news/discussion.
This is Violet and FB/BF's new project together.
The rules are that if you're talking about one of the songs and can't share... that you do your best to give a detailed description so people know what you're talking about.
and as the coffee lady says... discuss...

| Perhaps we need different threads for each camp's speculative description of Grand Duchy music. This one is Grand Duchy rocks! Another could be "Grandy is so mellow". Floop could moderate the "Grand Duchy is a 21st century techno Dylan band". And of course we need a thread about how we're guessing that the producer ruined the album. Other suggestions? |

I know Grand Duchy personally and the producer is not responsible at this time for ruining the album.

If I were to have heard "Fort Wayne" by Grand Duchy -- which I'm not saying I have -- I'd probably say how much I think Violet sounds like Kim Deal, except much sweeter. And I might say I'm really excited about this collaboration. Also, I might wonder if anybody else hears that noise of a plane or a car going by several times. If I'd listened to this song about a hundred times, I might not have noticed that sound the first 50 times.

I couldn't imagine Kim Deal sing French so sensually. But there are similarities.
I think Linda Mallari kinda sounds the same as Kim Deal too.

If I were to have Fort Wayne saved on my hard drive, which I'm not saying I do, I'd have to say I appreciate the usage of the phrase "egg laying". And, at first I thought it was possibly a Grandaddy parody. Also, I might wonder about the appropriate usage of the fake(?) vibraphone sound. If I'd listened to this song about a 6 times, I might not have noticed that sound the first 3 times.
Also, it's quite excellent and I suggest you all listen to it the first chance you get.

Well I obviously haven't heard the song, but given what everyone said about it, I think it would be fitting if Violet sang something along the lines of
"Vous vous rappelez

which is full of mistakes, by the way. It transletes more or less into:

Just out of curiosity, for those of us who haven't heard Fort Wayne - does it have anything like a "ray davies" element to it? I think I remember that from one of Frank's babelfished posts... Or was that regarding "bluefinger"?
I guess I'm just trying to get a general sense of what Grand Duchy sounds like so far, from those who've heard some of the music. |

Is it about Fort Wayne, Indiana? That's what I think of when I hear the words Fort Wayne.
