Anyone else excited about Kristin Hersh's autobiography "Rat Girl" aka "Paradoxical Undressing" that's coming out in September? |

I've been catching up on Kristin Hersh recordings
I had lots of the Throwing Muses but I started filling up my catalogue after seeing this youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RORInpNerrs
I hadn't realized she had [so much] solo material. It's almost uniformly incredible. Strange Angels was the first I got and it blew me away. I just can't stop buying.
I've got 3 cds coming this week.
I've been staying away from the Cash Music stuff but I will run out of other material soon. |

Have you also been getting 50 ft Wave material as well? It's very good. |

Haven't heard Power+Light either. I love the first self-titled EP...their other releases are good but not quite the same.
I have Hersh's "Hips and Makers" and "Strange Angels". Both are beautiful but I have to be in the right mood to listen to them. I've been thinking of checking out "Sunny Border Blue". |

I actually think that's her best solo album, but I don't have them all. I do have "Hips and Makers" and "Strange Angels". |

Fortune and Bliss are two of my favorites from the CASH music stuff. Bliss especially is insanely catchy. But it's all really good.
And TM's Limbo is a great one for summer.
Which 3 have you got coming hammer?

I just got Hips & Makers and Learn to Sing Like a Star today and I am getting Sky Motel from the UK, soon I guess.
It could take me a few days to get to these, I've got a new found enthusiasm for Iggy Pop as well as Joe Strummer's solo work that I'm nursing, and my attempt to collect all the in-studio Thelonious Monk led recordings is only one small obscure label and two CDs from completion.

hi trob, I watched some of those Northampton clips; one of the best stories is called "Boston Press". It's really funny. I'm looking forward to the book.

No trob, when it got to be that time I didn't really have the money. I did buy "Rat Girl" a couple weeks ago and it's awesome. I think anyone would enjoy it, even if they didn't know Hersh or her songs. The Sunday New York Times gave it a good review this weekend so I'm hoping it'll get other people interested.
I could easily see "Rat Girl" made into a movie. It's got everything.
By the way, if you buy the book you get access to accoustic re-recordings of Throwing Muses songs on the first day of every season for the next year. The first batch includes: Buzz Red Eyes Mania And a She-Wolf After The War Mercury Flying

So, the book comes with a internet password or something? Or do I have to buy the book from a Throwing Muses website? Does one exist?
Damn it, it's like Kristin disappeared a few years ago. It's very hard for a casual fan to keep up with what she's doing. |

Well if you're waiting for an ad to pop up in your copy of Rolling Stone, then yeah, she's disappeared. But she's never been so productive and almost all of her output is available for free. She's only hard to follow if you're allergic to RSS feeds, she's all over the web - official site, three CASH music sites (solo, Muses, 50FootWave), a photo blog, a Facebook page, she's even got a bloody Twitter account.
By the way: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130539190 Brand new KEXP session, free to download!

You're supposed to enter in a password which is a certain word from a certain page of the book, but when I went theydidn't ask for the password, it took me straight to the content.

I was re-reading "Rat Girl" this past weekend, it's so good.
By the way, I saw online that a Throwing Muses anthology is coming out from 4AD this year and it's going to have a bonus disc of B-sides.
I've been writing about some of this stuff at my blog (which, by the way, includes some Pixies and Frank Black stuff- posters and whatnot).

How'd you like University Jose? And I'd recommend House Tornado to you. If only for Leslie Langston's bass.

The new song is really something...heavy acoustic rock suits the Muses well. |
