I really thought there was a Kristen Hersh topic already, but the search I did came up with nothing so here we go.

'Kristen Hersh releases solo album

The former Throwing Muses singer also tours the UK
Ex-Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristen Hersh will release a new solo album this month - and you can preview tracks online now

'Learn To Sing Like A Star' comes out in the US on January 23 and January 29 in the UK.

Three songs from the album and a video for the track 'In Shock' can be previewed at 4ad.com/features/kristinhersh.

Hersh will tour the UK in support of the new album in March.

The tour dates are:

Bristol Thekla (March 1)
Leicester Y Theatre (2)
Nottingham Rescue Rooms (3)
Birmingham Glee Club (4)
Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms (6)
London KOKO (7)
Sheffield Leadmill (9)
Manchester Academy 3 (10)
Glasgow Oran Mor (11)'

She's in Manchester on my 30th Birthday. Cool.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

It is.

My favourite album from 2013. Needs listening all the way through for maximum effect.

This is a valid format.

Demos of most of the songs on the new Muses album have been available on Kristin's site since 2010 http://throwingmuses.cashmusic.org/ The new album recordings of the songs are slow burners I think. I'm more excited for Kristin's 2013 batch of songs for her next solo record Spark Meet Gasoline also available on her site http://www.kristinhersh.com/Releases/spark/ Anyone else liking them?

The new Throwing Muses album arrived in the post this morning. Really really nice packaging, effectively a 60 page hard back book with a cd inside. Look forward to listening later in the day when I can allow myself some time off work.

New Kristin song, Guadelupe, part of her works in progress song-a-month series is up on her site. Nine new songs in total available as free download (tip if you wanna). Every new batch of her songs seems like her best.

I was re-reading "Rat Girl" this past weekend, it's so good.

By the way, I saw online that a Throwing Muses anthology is coming out from 4AD this year and it's going to have a bonus disc of B-sides.

I've been writing about some of this stuff at my blog (which, by the way, includes some Pixies and Frank Black stuff- posters and whatnot).

I hope there's going to be an audio book release of Rat Girl. Her speaking voice is wonderful, so expressive. Plus I'm a sucker for a southern accent.

You're supposed to enter in a password which is a certain word from a certain page of the book, but when I went theydidn't ask for the password, it took me straight to the content.

Well if you're waiting for an ad to pop up in your copy of Rolling Stone, then yeah, she's disappeared. But she's never been so productive and almost all of her output is available for free. She's only hard to follow if you're allergic to RSS feeds, she's all over the web - official site, three CASH music sites (solo, Muses, 50FootWave), a photo blog, a Facebook page, she's even got a bloody Twitter account.

So, the book comes with a internet password or something? Or do I have to buy the book from a Throwing Muses website? Does one exist?

Damn it, it's like Kristin disappeared a few years ago. It's very hard for a casual fan to keep up with what she's doing.
jimmy Posted - 10/12/2010 : 14:31:14
No trob, when it got to be that time I didn't really have the money. I did buy "Rat Girl" a couple weeks ago and it's awesome. I think anyone would enjoy it, even if they didn't know Hersh or her songs. The Sunday New York Times gave it a good review this weekend so I'm hoping it'll get other people interested.

I could easily see "Rat Girl" made into a movie. It's got everything.

By the way, if you buy the book you get access to accoustic re-recordings of Throwing Muses songs on the first day of every season for the next year. The first batch includes:
Buzz
Red Eyes
Mania
And a She-Wolf After The War
Mercury

I just got Hips & Makers and Learn to Sing Like a Star
today and I am getting Sky Motel from the UK, soon I guess.

It could take me a few days to get to these, I've got
a new found enthusiasm for Iggy Pop as well as Joe
Strummer's solo work that I'm nursing, and my attempt to
collect all the in-studio Thelonious Monk led recordings
is only one small obscure label and two CDs from completion.

I hadn't realized she had [so much] solo material. It's
almost uniformly incredible. Strange Angels was the first
I got and it blew me away. I just can't stop buying.

I've got 3 cds coming this week.

I've been staying away from the Cash Music stuff but
I will run out of other material soon.

Fortune and Bliss are two of my favorites from the CASH music stuff. Bliss especially is insanely catchy. But it's all really good.

And TM's Limbo is a great one for summer.

Which 3 have you got coming hammer?
