It may have been only in Benny Hill.

Here I am getting my teeth done by Tim Conway:

Good teeth has more to do with a healthy diet, or rather a lack of a poor diet, more than brushing/flossing or anything else I'd say.

I had heard that too about dentists and suicide, and I think that's right- about it being because people don't like going to them.

That's why I try to be extra nice- I'd feel really bad if my dentist killed himself. I've been going to him for four years, but he probably wouldn't even recognize me if he saw me somewhere else; still I'd blame myself and wonder what I did.

I had the root filling done today; afterwards, the dentist showed me an x-ray of my teeth, with the little wispy fillings going up into my gum. Still have to get a crown on my tooth, and the other side of my gum checked out...may need root work there too!

Surely they've worked out by now that it's probably nothing personal?

I had a tooth pulled today and it couldn't have felt worse if I'd asked Carl to do it armed only with a bottle of Forty Creek Three Grain, a doorknob and a piece of string.

Going to the dentist should feel as normal as anything else but it doesn't. Instead it's always a Coen Brothers experience. Someone stop the world and fix this. Then we can all go on.

I'm hurting. Someone help me.

Carl. Neurofen Plus even. From one root canal veteran to another, I expected more.

That bad? If it's still hurting, you should ring your dentist or go to the doctor.

I work in a pharmacy, and anytime someone asks for a something to relieve a toothache you're going to have to give something with codeine in it. It’s the strong (and addictive) stuff.

Try:
Veganin Plus
Neurofen Plus
Solpadine, The soluble version (it's the one that half the country seem to be hooked on)
Codis (soluble)
Maxilief (soluble)

(NOT all of them, obviously)

True, the generic brands are exactly the same and cheaper. Wrenn, you're probably right about Solpadine (I hate taking soluble stuff myself, unless it's flavoured!). When I had a bad case of flu a while ago, the locum doc prescribed Maxilief, which I'd never heard of before-it's actually a cheaper version of Solpadine. I try to avoid stuff with codeine (like Neurofen Plus), at least during the day. It's not recommended for asthmatics anyway, although I don't suffer so badly nowadays. It's actually safe to take Ibuprofen and paracetamol products, like ordinary Neurofen and Panadol, together (although not paracetamol with Neurofen Plus, Lemsip, Maxilief and other such medicines that contain paracetamol already). BTW, PixieSteve, I think you're meant to leave about four hours between taking either ibuprofen and paracetamol.

I used to pronounce Solpadine "Solphadine"-I'm not dyslexic, I just never looked at the word properly!!

yeah, take each type 4 hours apart but stagger it so you're constantly on something

Clonmel Pharmaceutical make all the generic brands ("Maxilief" and the adventurously named "24 Paracetamol", etc)
They're just as good as the dear stuff.
Plus, t'is:

(Should that worry you? Have ye little faith?)

Heh, that old garish 'Guaranteed Irish' symbol.

*UPDATE!!*

The bad tooth on the right side of my gum started to rot out, a little chip came out of it the other night, so it was lucky I had an appointment today. As it turned out, the decay is a little deeper there, I could either have had the tooth out or root canal. The dentist reckoned it was worth saving, so I went with root canal (which I'll be getting doen at the next appointment). I'll still need to get a false tooth/gum piece thingy on that side at some stage, hopefully not for 5 to 10 years, anyway. He hasn't done the crown on the other tooth yet-oh yeah, he recommended I floss to stop little bits of trapped food from making it sore!!

"foofaraw" - That looked like a non-word to me but my dictionary informs. It says "origin unknown, 1934". Maybe an Aussieism?

It's my turn to go to the dentist...

While eating chicken this weekend one of my crowns fell off. I've gotta go get it stuck back on in a couple of hours. I'm nervous.

I survived my trip to the dentist. It was painless. The tooth that the crown fell off of has had a root canal-they told me that's why it didn't hurt. No big deal.

No, Carl, it wasn't KFC, btw!

I have to go on Thursday.
But it should be just a cleaning knock on wood.
My biggest concern is which flavour of fluoride to choose.
They never taste like what they're supposed to.

Ugh, fluoride. That reminds me of the purple foam we had to "chew" in elementary school. I'm ready to retch just thinking about it.

Today I had the orange fluoride.
That's the best kind I've tried so far.
