Well its official they are coming to Australia: V Festival - Sydney Saturday March 31 2007 V Festival - Gold Coast Sunday April 1 2007
www.vfestival.com.au
Tickets are on sale next Monday the 4th of December.
The other bands I assess as rubbish, except maybe Pet Shop Boys who will be good for a view. Though I anticipate that there will be a lot more to come.
I will most likely buy tickets for both venues than re-assess when solo shows come up. If the festival is not in Melbourne i would think Melbourne and Sydney solo shows would have to be certain. |

They're not going to go all the way to Australia for one festival guys, give some time for the details to filter in over the next few weeks.

The bands to play at the first V Festival to be held in Australia have been revealed today. The Pixies, Gnarls Barkley, The Rapture, Groove Armada, Soulwax and Pet Shop Boys have been confirmed in Sydney, with tickets going on sale on 4th December.
Australia's dates are part of the international expansion of Richard Branson's festival, which has already taken place in the US and Canada this year. The one-day events will take place in Sydney and Queensland next year, and Branson has indicated he is also looking at sites in Italy, Spain and South America.
The dates are:
MARCH 31 Sydney Centennial Park
APRIL 1 Gold Coast Avica Resort

V Festival Heads To Australia
27 November 2006
V Festival is to be exported to Australia next Spring. Following months of speculation, two one-day festivals will take place in Sydney and the Gold Coast with several bands already confirmed to play...
Pixies, Gnarls Barkley, The Rapture, Groove Armada, Soulwax and Pet Shop Boys are the first acts confirmed to perform at the two festivals. Both days are expected to attract tens of thousands of music fans.
The two dates are at Sydney's Centennial Park on 31 March and at Gold Coast Avica Resort on 1 April.
V Festival's first foray into the Australian market is the latest attempt by Virgin owner Richard Branson to export the British based festival around the world.
In the same year that V Festival celebrated its tenth year in the UK, there have been one-day events in Canada and the US. Festivals are also being planned in Italy, Spain and South America.
Today's announcement in Sydney follows months of speculation regarding V Festival in Australia, with rumours abound towards the end of summer that organisers had given up on the project.
Tickets for V Festival Australia will go on sale on 4 December.

V Festival - PIXIES ZOMG :: The Great Escape - No Pixies
Well it seems some of the rumours were in fact true, Australia will finally get a tour by the legendary Pixies. The Sydney version of the inaugural Australian V Festival will take place in Centennial Park on March 31 followed by a show on the Gold Coast the next day. And the initial lineup looks promising, although perhaps a tad short on the rock:
Pixies (!!!) Pet Shop Boys (wtf?) Groove Armada (!) Gnarls Barkley The Rapture (!!!) Phoenix (!!) 2manydjs (!) Softlightes Bumblebeez The Mercy Arms The Temper Trap
I saw the Pixies once in 2004 and once again in 2005 and each time I was blown away (even though I’m not the hugest fan); so I’m looking very forward to having my ass kicked by them again. I saw Groove Armada at Glastonbury in 2002 and they put on a pretty good live show (or at least they did). The Rapture will be tons of fun and Phoenix will hopefully be a decent live band (never seen them). Expect more artists to be announced over the next couple of months.
The Great Escape lineup was also announced last night and it (like last year) has a somewhat similar list of artists as the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival. One major bonus is that the lovely Leslie Feist is allegedly appearing at The Great Escape. Although she’s not listed on the website she is listed in the print ads. Now last year she was listed as well and ended up NOT playing but I’m confident she will be making it out here next year as her new record should be released early 2007. If you saw her solo show at the Hopetoun last year you know you’re in for a great performance. Let’s hope for some sideshows.

You Heard It Here First...
V Festival AU Lineup - First Announcement
Just stumbled home from the V Festival launch party, and am putting off my luxurious bed to type up a list of confirmed names - just for you. They appear in the order of My Interest. And the Pixies are not just a rumour this time.
THE PIXIES. Pet Shop Boys (I find this unjustifiably exciting). Phoenix. The Rapture. Softlightes. The Temper Trap. 2 Many DJs. Mercy Arms. Bumblebeez. Groove Armada. Gnarls Barkley and many more to be announced.
Here are a few songs to tide you over until March 31st '07 if you're in Sydney, and April 1st if you're in the Gold Coast.

Im just praying they do a few solo shows first...will definitely get tickets for the sydney festival, but cant really justify shelling out big bucks for both when the rest of the lineup is rubbish.
I am rather excited though.

V Festival Hits Australia by Staff | 11.27.2006
After Australia’s Livid Festival failed to materialize this year, there has been a deep, dark, depressing hole in the Australian festival circuit and who better to fill it than the UK’s 11 years strong V Festival. The festival, sponsored by the Virgin Group, is finally reaching Down Under and toting a bill stock full of both local and international groups including: The Pixies, Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Gnarls Barkley, The Rapture, Phoenix, 2 many dj’s, Softlightes, Bumblebeez, The Mercy Arms and The Temper Trap. The first Australian V Festival takes place March 31 at Sydney's Centennial Park and April 1 at the Avica Resort in the Gold Coast.
Tickets for the eclectic mélange go on sale December 4th with two dates scheduled thus far in Sydney and the Gold Coast. With backers like the Virgin Group, have no fear of the classic loss-of- funding that can suddenly cripple a music fest. After all, Richard Branson does own his own island. $1 from the purchase of every ticket will also be donated Virgin Unite, the charitable arm of the Virgin Group.

Virgin jumps on festival bandwagon Patrick Donovan November 28, 2006 - 12:44PM
After months of speculation, Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson has added a new music festival to Australia's already busy calendar.
While the multi-millionaire's V festival — which began in Britain a decade ago to promote Branson's Virgin mobile phone service — is scheduled to run in Sydney and the Gold Coast in late March and early April, there are no plans at this stage for the event to come to Melbourne.
The legendary Pixies, which reformed after an 11 year hiatus in 2004, will play Australia for the first time, as will one of the year's success stories, groundbreaking hip hop duo Gnarls Barkley. Other bands include Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Soulwax — Nite Versions, the Rapture, Phoenix, 2manydjs, Softlightes and Bumblebeez.
Local buzz bands the Mercy Arms and the Temper Trap lead the local contingent.
"The first bands announced in the lineup for V festival fit the international ethos by bringing together a rich variety of influential groups, many of whom have never toured these shores before and a host of new up and coming Australian bands," the promoters said, adding that details of any Melbourne shows would be announced in the new year.
Tickets go on sale on Monday December 4 for the shows Sydney's Centennial Park on March 31 and the Cold Coast's Avica Resort on April 1, however, they will not be sent out until just before the concert to deter scalpers.

Ken Goes told me it is not official, and it won't be one way or the other for a few more weeks... the promoters just jumped the gun on this to start building a buzz.
I do know that they have been planning an Aussie trip for a while, so I'd put money on them being there. |

I have lost count how many years I have been waiting to see them live...as said before, its a shame its at a festival as sets seems to be shorter and crowds larger - plus the other bands dont really interest. Anyhow! awesome...Time to fly east. I can only hope frank does a solo show somewhere. Ive grown to like Frank tenfold over the Pixies in the years. |

Well that might be scary...Finger crossed. Because V Festival doesnt give the ticket to you until close to the show to avoid scalping. So if Pixies cancel there is little chance of finding a buyer. |

The Pixies to headline V Festival
After much whispers and rumours, the V Festival has finally confirmed that its headline act will be seminal US alternative band, The Pixies. About bloody time. Included in the rather eclectic, first line-up announcement, are the Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, The Rapture and Gnarls Barkley.
The festival is happening on 31 March 2007 at Centennial Park, just one week before the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, which boasts a line-up as long as my arm.
You'd think all this festival competition might see some downward pressure on ticket prices - but think again. I guess bringing out so many artists making sure no ones dies during the event costs alot of money: V Festival tix are $124+ and day tickets for the Blues Fest are $100.

Pixies, Gnarls Barkley Play Australia’s First V Fest Published: 2006-11-28
After making a debut appearance in the US and Canada this year, Virgin Festival is making an introduction in Australia.
Australia's first V Fest will take place in a couple of cities—March 31 at Sydney's Centennial Park and April 1 at Gold Coast Avica Resort.
Though each V Fest has its own flavour, they are all packed with great music and the Australian show is no exception. A handful of acts have already been confirmed for the fest including the Pixies, Gnarls Barkley, The Rapture, Groove Armada, Soulwax and the Pet Shop Boys.
The inaugural Canadian V Fest this past summer hosted bands like The Flaming Lips, Alexisonfire, the Sam Roberts Band and Broken Social Scene.
Tickets to the Australian show go on sale December 4.

V Festival Visits Australia Gnarls Barkley and The Pixies set to play

The Pixies will play two shows in Australia — their first ever Down Under — as part of the V Festival on March 31 and April 1. The shows will be the Pixies' first since a brief European tour last summer, which ended with the future of their successful reunion in limbo. The Pixies have been notoriously vague about whether they plan to record a new album, which would be their first since 1991's Trompe le Monde. ... |

I was so tempted to book seats on the only qantas flight from Sydney to Coolangatta on April 1 because I figure the band will be on it unless they get a private plane for them. I was contemplating hanging out in the Qantas lounge to "just happen" to bump into them. After all:
They've come so far I've lived this long at least I must go and say hello
But I decided to be a tight arse and fly on Jetstar for $81.

Around Easter, festival fever hits overdrive with bands including the Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada and the Pixies playing at Richard Branson's V Festival, while Aussie rock outfit Wolfmother will be joining international artists Ben Harper and John Mayer, plus Australia's own Missy Higgins at The Great Escape and Byron Bay's Blues and Roots festival. |

Rock-It Rumour
Heatseeker has just heard a very, very exciting rumour about Rock-It. So exciting in fact I almost wet my pants.
A little birdie has told us that there are some very strong rumours of a Rock-It concert happening in April.
The line-up looks set to include, playing WA for the first time in the history of the universe, seminal US rock act the Pixies.
Another international act is tipped to be on the bill as well as the usual high quality Australian artists.
How about that eh?! The Pixies! Let me tell you this monkey has gone to heaven!

Pixies ... at last
Cameron Adams February 12, 2007 12:00am
SEMINAL American rock act the Pixies have finally announced a Melbourne concert.
The Pixies, former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker and New York rockers The Rapture will perform at the Best of the V Festival on April 4 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. British legends the Pet Shop Boys, British dance act Groove Armada, Crazy hitmakers Gnarls Barkley and French band Phoenix will perform at the Bowl on April 3. Tickets for both nights go on sale February 19 through Ticketmaster.
The Pixies, who had hits in the 1980s and '90s including Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Gigantic and Debaser, have never toured Australia. Their albums Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are considered alternative rock classics. |

Pixies Tour Australia, Get Another Tribute Album
Though it's no new record, the Pixies will play four Australian festival dates beginning March 31 in Sydney and ending April 7 in Tasmania. Pixies in Tasmania! That sounds like a children's book.
Much further down the line, American Laundromat Records has a couple of tribute albums in the works. The first, Dig for Fire: A Tribute to Pixies, is scheduled for a November 13 release. It features Pixies covers by Dinosaur Jr./J Mascis, They Might Be Giants, the Rosebuds, OK Go, and others. Mogwai are also rumored to contribute. We hope it's better than this one.
The second tribute album is dedicated entirely to Kim Deal songs and is scheduled for a Christmas release.
Dates:
03-31 Sydney, Australia - Centennial Park (V Festival) 04-01 Gold Coast, Australia - Avica Resort (V Festival) 04-05 Perth, Australia - Claremont Showgrounds (Blackjack Festival) 04-07 Glenorchy, Australia - Royal Hobart Showgrounds (Southern Roots Festival)

V Fest (and, yes, The Pixies) Come To Melbourne
by Daniel Zugna - February 12 2007
The Pixies will finally be playing in Melbourne, with the announcement of a two-night 'Best Of The V Fest' concert series.
The announcement was made on community radio station 3RRR this morning, along with the news that Jarvis Cocker will be bringing his solo show to Australia.
The 'Best Of The V Fest' shows take place on April 3 and 4 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
The Pixies will be headlining the April 4 gig, sharing that evening's bill with Cocker and smooth French popsters Phoenix. April 3 will be a more dance- focused show, with Groove Armada, Gnarls Barkley and Pet Shop Boys teaming up with New York rockers The Rapture.
The event also takes place at Adelaide's Memorial Drive at the same time, with the dates inversed (ie., Pixies et al. playing on April 3, and Groove Armada and friends on April 4).
Tickets go on sale February 19 through Ticketmaster.

Hi pirate. Haven't heard any news about non-festival shows.

Blackjack to Rock-It with the Pixies! Posted on February 14 2007
I can't believe it's not Rock-it!
I guess zillions of people are wondering where Rock-It, WA's largest locally programmed and produced event, went this summer?
It’s probably because it is so easy to yearn for the simple but effective format of a single stage with a killer bill and genuine maximum respect in all directions policies. Well, we decided not to proceed with the usual Spring Edition because we only like to present Rock-It if there are a couple of special acts available. We figure that an event can't be a ‘special event’ without a special combination of artists.
In awesome news, the Rock-It team captured THE selection of artists to end the summer….an exciting combination of firm favourites, international superstars and hot new talent ready to rock your socks off on Easter Thursday 5th April.
DOH!!!!!! Then another catch….the spiritual home of Rock-It, Arena Joondalup, is unable to host the Thursday night because construction on the Arena Joondalup events train platform isn’t finished, one of the access roads is closed and the parking facilities are unavailable due to late night shopping.
We nearly had to let a stellar line up go but in VERY GOOD NEWS the kind folk at CLAREMONT SHOWGROUNDS offered us the grassy bit in the middle to allow us to present this fantastic line up to WA and we'll be doing so under the name Blackjack!
SAME big production SAME single stage format SAME respectful event policies SAME respectful ticket price and our aims intact EASY TO SEE, EASY TO PEE, EASY TO HEAR, EASY FOR BEER
So it’s official! Blackjack 2007 at Claremont Showgrounds will put the greatest icing on the cake of another excellent WA summer and Rock-It will be back with a MASSIVE bill later in the year (with a new special event train station at the front door and other improvements to make your enjoyment and comfort a priority).
I can't believe it's not Rock-It!
But that’s ok, because here is Blackjack 2007 and here is the line up….

Pixies And Gnarls Play Blackjack
by Andrew Tijs - February 15 2007 photo by Ros O'Gorman
Reformed Boston alterna-rock heroes The Pixies headline Perth's Blackjack 2007.
From the team that brought Perth Rock-It, comes Blackjack 2007. And they've managed to snare a couple of the V Festival's (and the world's) biggest acts to play out west, as well as some of Australia's biggest live bands.
First things first, WA gets a taste of the newly reformed The Pixies, the group headed by alterna- rock royalty Frank Black and Kim Deal and who are cited by virtually the entire grunge movement as inspiration. Joining them are the new kids on the hip hop soul block Gnarls Barkley, arguably the most exciting act to hit the mainstream in 2006.
Then come the Australian big guns. Still kicking ass and taking names, our multi-platinum rockabilly battlers The Living End promise more high octane Aussie anthems. Then we have hometown heroes, and national superstars Add to that, incendiary grunge punks The Vines, heavy rockin' local heroes Birds of Tokyo (featuring members of Karnivool) and Melbourne's raw rock upstarts Children Collide and Blackjack 2007.
One day on April 5, one stage at the Claremont Showgrounds, one hell of a show.

Gnarls Barkley ... At least there'll be fancy dress (Photo: Getty Images).
Melburnians might be wondering whether the organiser of the new V Festival has it in for them.
First Michael Coppel decided to bypass their city, declaring it a "festival graveyard".
Now he's decided to bring "the best" from Richard Branson's festival to Melbourne and Adelaide, splitting the performances over two nights for almost twice the price.
Would you spend more than 200 bucks to catch the Pet Shop Boys, Pixies, Gnarls Barkley, Jarvis Cocker, The Rapture, Groove Armada and Phoenix? Or do Melburnians and Adelaide residents feel gypped? Let us know.

Gnarls Barkley is about to wrap up a US tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers. They then head to Australia for the V Festival, with The Pixies, Pet Shop Boys and Jarvis Cocker.

Pixies fans have gone to heaven
The wait is finally over - the Pixies will perform for the first time in Melbourne in April. Melbourne rockers will be able to catch the band who paved the way for Nirvana at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Wednesday, April 4.
The bowl has been on fire this summer, and dancing on the hill with the city skyline as a backdrop has become the quintessential Melbourne summer music experience.
On Saturday, the Beastie Boys were past their best, Snoop came on 40 minutes late (it must have been all that KFC and Skittles he was scoffing backstage in a haze of purple smoke) and Rahzel should have been on the main stage, but with close proximity to the city, a good sound, few drinking restrictions, excellent sightlines and half the size of the Big Day Out Crowd, Good Vibrations was still a reminder that festivals don't have to be hard work.
And now the highlights from the V Festival will perform in Melbourne over two nights. Too many festivals these days just invite the same acts back, so V should be commended for bringing out some fresh faces, such as the Pixies (well, more craggy-faced, but still they're here for the first time), as well as Grammy winners Gnarls Barkley and Phoenix.
The catch? Well, as the bowl tickets cost between $100 and $130, Melbourne punters will have to pay almost twice as much as their Sydney and Gold Coast brethren, who can catch all the acts at V for $124 a pop.
And how will Pixies fans, used to non-corporate festivals like Meredith, cope with the first main festival run by a mobile phone company? The last time festivalgoers' senses were ram-raided by advertising was 2002's Rumba festival, and that didn't last.
Will festivals go all the way with blanket advertising, like this year's Ozzfest, which is free to fans, with the bands earning money on merchandise sales and off-night gigs?
Regardless, let's hope the sun stays out till the festival season ends.
The festival's local promoter, Michael Coppel, told www.theage.com.au this week that they were forced to hold the festival over two nights because of the lack of a larger venue.
"We're not playing a festival so we don't get the economies of scale to be able to do a 35,000 to 40,000-capacity show on one day," he said.
"And we're playing essentially a limited-capacity venue twice, with sort of duplicated costs and a substantially lower number of ticket sales, which accounts for a higher price."

Festival gives fans the big V Kylie Northover, Reko Rennie February 13, 2007 - 2:50PM
Melbourne music fans will have the chance to see Richard Branson's V Festival - but at twice the price of their northern neighbours.
The Best of V Festival, announced this morning, will feature the same line-up as the Sydney and Gold Coast dates, but will be split over two nights at the Myer Music Bowl - and at more than twice the cost.
Tickets for the Sydney and Gold Coast festival dates cost $124.40. Melbourne fans will have to outlay $110 per night to catch the same line-up.
The festival's local promoter Michael Coppel told theage.com.au that the decision was due to the venue seating restriction in the Myer Music Bowl.
"Basically there's two reasons why," he said. "We're not playing a festival so we don't get the economies of scale to be able to do a 35,000-40,000 capacity show on one day.
"And we're playing essentially a limited capacity venue twice, with sort of duplicated costs and a substantially lower number of ticket sales, which basically account for a higher price."
When it was announced in September last year that Mr Coppel would stage an Australian version of the successful British event, music fans were shocked when Melbourne was left off the tour list.
In defending the decision, Mr Coppel declared in December that Melbourne was a "festival graveyard". He said he stands by his statement but believes the festival market is experiencing a resurgence.
"It's not so much a festival graveyard (now) Melbourne has proved it is a more difficult festival market traditionally than other cities have," he said.
"I stand by the statement - if you look at The Big Day Out results ... they've been the most established festival going around at the moment, and they've only ever sold out in one year and that was this current year.
"So I think no matter what Vivian Lees (Big Day Out promoter) may say, the reality is that they've always attracted bigger attendances on the Gold Coast and Auckland than they have in Melbourne," he said.
"Now I think what's happened is there's been a switch in Australian audiences' preferences in seeing festivals ... but certainly I think the results over the last six months indicate that the whole festival market is in a boom situation and everything seems to be selling extremely strongly," Mr Coppel said.
British legends the Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, Gnarls Barkley and New York rockers The Rapture will perform at the Bowl on April 3, while the Pixies, Jarvis Cocker, Phoenix, and special guests will perform on April 4.
Tickets for both nights go on sale February 19.
Mr Coppel has ruled out any side shows at this point in time.
