So im a huge fan etc like everyone else ra ra etc etc Been listening to em for years.
Im going to those expensive/cheesey V Festivals in Sydney and Melbourne just to see Pixies. The one gig I would have really wanted to see - Pixies at the Palace - sells out in less than 4 minutes. I couldnt beleive it.
Why did the sideshow get managed this way? Why wait untill a week before the gig to finally announce your side shows in a country you have never played before?
I had a ticket to Frank Black at the Corner back around 2003 and then that was cancelled - Last Friday I couldnt even get one ticket for the Palace show by 9:04am.
thats fucked

If they would have announced it earlier it would have sold out in 40 seconds.
What you need to do is beg and plead with ?them? to move the venue, or better yet to add second and third date. Who is them? |

This is Jez's wife Jess. I heard that the secret gig at northcote is an industry gig, only for invited guests? Has anyone else heard this?quote: Originally posted by jez

We just played the Northcote show. it was fantastic. Tiny little club. About 300 people. We used the club to rehearse all day. Since there hasn't been a show in 6 months. Apparently the tickets were given away in an email lottery. There were as many people outside listening as were in the venue. About halfway through the show someone pulled open this huge curtain and there were a couple of hundred people pressed against this window who could suddenly see the stage. It was really exciting. I wanted to run over and open the door to the patio and let everyone in. Someone after the show showed us a photos of the people who were listening out in the street. About a couple of hundred more. And the bar manager said everyone in the bar was silent during the show. Just singing along - they could hear but not see anything.
Everyone here in Australia has been so kind. We've all been having a blast. Been just eating and partying here in Melbourne for 3 days. Tomorrow the Palace. Then the V fests. |

Hey Miles, thanks for the update. will you be recording any/all of the shows? I asked Pixiesdiscs and they said they were not going to do this tour.

Today were in the Palace. Which is essentialy a big disco nightclub. Lots of mirror balls. But at least I get to do a light show tonite. Last night it was turn one light on over the stage at the start and turn it off at the end. Working our way up to the big festivals. |

Thanks Miles for the info. Great setlist! I think we all wish we could be there. Did the show remind you of any other Pixies show?

That setlist is fine, but jeez, these songs get played over and over and over and over and over. We need NEW Pixies songs! I love benji's idea about playing a secret show with the "Bluefinger" songs. I could die happy after seeing such a thing.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Cheers myles for posting! It's great to actually know a bit about how you guys felt about being in melbourne. I was listening for a bit from a building across the road from the social club last night... would have loved to have been inside however it was wonderfully surreal hearing some of the louder songs pumping out into the street! It's not often we get to hear that around here! |

You are right Myles. I was in the front bar and it was gold! The door was shut for the first few songs then wow.....noise!! Everyone was singing along and I had a clear view of Charles. Brilliant. Was worth the 18 year wait.
Only 7 more hrs til more euphoria....

I was in the back bar waiting near the glass window patiently drinking beers and lapping up the fact that the Pixies were only a few metres away..then when the curtains were pulled back my girlfriend and myself had the best view in the place. The camera was working overtime. I even got to say hi to Frank as he walked past my panel van on the way to get a drink. I tried to get him to pose for me with the van, but he was too thirsty he said. Oh well I got a free gig, great shots of Kim chain smoking in a non smoking venue (of which it uses as marketing pitch) and the chance to see the first pixies gig ever in Australia. |

Are you talking about Rock Music, Motorway To Roswell and Letter To Memphis?
I wonder why they didn't play songs off Bossanova. Velouria, Allison and Is She Weird are fave crowd, aren't they? |

Yeah, I mean, it's been discussed to death hasn't it, about whether it's just the band playing material they're more comfortable with. Real shame the last couple of records get neglected. |

They're indeed more comfortable with, nevertheless did they play 4 songs off Trompe Le Monde. So they could have played a bunch of songs like Velouria and Stormy Weather, or even B-sides such as Santo, Bailey's Walk and Into The White. All these last songs were recorded during the Doolittle's process. |

Frank looks more Black Francis-like as the months go by.
Back to using a Takamine, I see. And I haven't seen him use that Tele with the Pixies, before. |

And Kim is more lovely every time I see her. I love when she smiles. I never think it matters much to me if the Pixies record again -- because I've always preferred FB solo -- but oh, how I love Kim. She's so sweet.

Yeah, but remember Pixies have never been to Australia, so it's their first chance to see these songs live! We've been lucky enough to get several tours.

If only we still had 'Countdown' on the TV! Molly could have interviewed the band and presented Charles with a St Kilda footy jumper!
I'm still wondering how they managed to convince that chick from Abba to wear a Carlton jumper everywhere she went, but that is for another thread!
