Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers here, and not questioning anyone's sexuality, but every once in awhile, listening to a frank song, I think "that sounded a bit gay." So I was wondering if anyone else noted lines that made them wonder.
Here are 2 examples for me: Fiddle riddle- Once stood a man on my face Ooh yeah, on my face Gobbled him up 'cause my taste Leaves nothing to waste
and Suffering: I hung around in a leather bar
Oh and, yeah I know frank is married and has kids and has written a bunch of songs about women and so forth. This is more about how the words can be interpreted or misinterpreted, hopefully to some humorous effect.

Is being gay "humorous" to you? IMO, qualifying a statment apologising for possibly questioning someone's sexuality or ruffling their feathers does exactly that.
Why not just ask the question? Frank Black has written about many topics, and many of them include sexuality. I'm sure he's also met a gay person or two along his life's journies.
He's said many times that he leaves his lyrics open to however the listener wants to interpret them. If it comes across as talking about homosexuality to you, than that's what it means to you.

Oops, i am truly sorry. I didn't mean to say that being gay was humorous, although in reading back, I can see how it would sound that way (poorly written message, but i can't seem to get the edit function working). I was trying to refer to misinterpretations that could be funny as i often think that misinterpreted lyrics are funny and not that homosexuality is funny, but it probably wasn't a good idea to bring up humor in this context, therefore, i apologise. The "not questioning anyone's sexuality" statement wasn't an apology, i was trying to say that I was prefering to just discuss lyrics and not the writer. Finally, there are a lot of people that can get angry when the topic of homosexuality is even slightly breached, hence my starting the topic with the not "ruffling feathers" statement. Alas, I've failed. |

Fiddle Riddle is sung from the perspective of the Earth - so unless Earth has sex with other planets of the same gender, i think this one is a bit of dead end.

Do you think Stephen King is a psychotic murderer or a supernatural being? Were you surprised after seeing Forrest Gump to learn that Tom Hanks is not mentally challenged? Do you believe that a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away there was a struggle between an empire and a rebel alliance?
In addition to being so wrong about the referenced lyrics, you have a thing or two to learn about art. |

Don't you mean Robin Williams? Although maybe he's 8.

Do you think "teabagging" is humorous? ;)
I had an unfortunate dream about teabagging once. It was very unfortunate, and one of those thing youe just don't forget.
josephmichael, I don't think people should get angry when the topic of homosexuality is breached. That's the only point I was trying to make. Let's just talk about it. There's a very great possibility that in the 350+ (what's the count now?) songs that FB has written that some of them are probably about sexuality, including homosexuality. It's a very interesting topic, especially since if you aren't gay, you can't possibly know what it feels like.
And "kicked in the taco" - what exactly does he mean by "kicked"? Discuss.

I'm an old Pixies fan. In college (early 90's) the group I hung with was full of Pixies fans. Common thought back then was that Frank Black was gay. It was probably a mistake, but that's what we thought. Rumor had it, him and Bob Mould had a thing for a while. Not saying it's true, just sharing some memories. |

If it's "taco" as in "tuna taco," I hardly think that's gay.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. |
