I didn't want to derail KingOfSiam's thread, but at the same time, I wanted to rub this in to benji.

Last night Low played at Koko, doing a full album playback of Things We Lost In The Fire, one of my absolute favourite records of any band ever. Beautiful night, they have a seriously great sound in their live shows.
Anybody else loving the Low?

Found "Things We Lost In The Fire" boring at first listen. It was at work, so maybe I should give it another try.

I'm so jealous, only a good bootleg of the gig will make me feel slightly better. Think I still prefer Trust though.
Alan Sparhawk is releasing an album of experimental guitar music in September I believe, but I can't remember where I saw the info.

That sounds pretty cool. You kind of forget how offbeat Low's sound is, and his guitar sounded excellent last night. That could be an interesting record.

It was amazing. I saw a couple of people with MP3 players set to record so I reckon there'll be some boots about.
Of course Llama, it doesn't beat actually being there :P

yeah, thanks for reminding me simon. but i have to admit i'd rather have seen them do secret name.
these atp series are brilliant. last year having the dirty three doing ocean songs, and this year with isis doing oceanic and low.... fuck me - almost worth living in the UK again.
low actually played in perth, western australia a couple months ago. but i was working, and travelling 1200km for a gig when you have to go to work at 6am the next morning ain't an option.
i'm presonally not a huge fan of great destroyer....don't think i've given it enough listens...oneday...
also - simon, have to got "A Lifetime Of Temporary Relief (10 Years Of B-Sides And Rarities/+DVD)" yet? 3cd's (52 songs!!!!!) and a dvd of all their music videos and 3 doco's all for under 15 quid is the purchase of the century. very very good it is....
anyone who likes low should download this absolutely unbelievably brilliant soundboard recording from 2001. it is truly brilliant - truly, truly brilliant. http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=82027 setlist: 1. Intro 2. Little Argument with Myself 3. Lordy 4. In the Drugs 5. Sunflower 6. Dinosaur Act 7. Laser Beam 8. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me 9. John Prine 10. Two Step 11. Like a Forest 12. Peanut Butter Toast and American Bandstand 13. Starfire 14. Closer 15. In Metal 16. Will the Night Last Forever 17. Soon
if people aren't members of dime, i'd gladly upload it to yousendit or somesuch in mp3 format.... it is that much of a must-have......
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |

mp3 would be good, Isaac, that sounds like a good set. They played a few extra songs last night, not sure if I can remember which... Amazing Grace, Cue The Strings and Two-Step for sure.

Just want to agree with Benji, it's a superb gig. That's the track I'd have chosen from it too, better than the Trust version. I'll have to dig it out now and listen to it all.

yeah I remember...were we commenting on the vocals being high (like it says in the notes) which I think kind of makes it so great.
Just had a panicky 15 minutes looking for the gig on disc, hoping that I hadn't deleted it, but no, put it on a DVD without a contents list.Tsk. If anyone wants it from Dime, I'll step in to seed too.

yep - vocals are a touch high, but i'm in agreement, i think that helps make it such a fantastic show.
offtopic - what do you use to make a content list on your dime dvd's? cause i finally realised that i need something to do it for me as i hate searching high and low for a bloody show on dvd....

I only own The Great Destroyer, which is very good. I'll have to check out Things We Lost In The Fire if you think it's better.

Do you mean like a cover? I just use notepad and copy/paste the folder names, alter them if they are too big or don't make sense. Make sure it's about CD case size, print it, cut it, and tape it on the inside facing out. There is a facility in Nero which I used, but notepad was just as easy.

damn, i tried that with notepad but i obviously wasn't doing it right. i downloaded some freeware which works well, but is just clunky. i'll try again....
homer - i think things... is better - but just wait til i upload the live show in full and nab that too...

mike, well the great destroyer was quite a change for the band. it was their first "heavy" record. the show i uploaded is much more reflective of their back catalogue than the great destroyer. and i think thats part of the reason the new album hasn't stuck with me - i'm struggling with the change to the heavy sound..

Isaac, have you seen them live? To me, the new record made more sense in that context: tracks like White Tail and In Metal were really pretty heavy and intense at the gig.
Hail to the king, baby! |

nope. as i said earlier, they played in perth a few months ago, which is the closest city to me. but a 2400km round road trip or a $600-700 return flight cost puts it out of the question. and never saw them in london....
it's part of the very nasty cost of moving to outback australia!

Hello all, Could somebody please please please upload the "unbelievably brilliant soundboard recording from 2001" again? I'm trying to get it through uTorrent, but there's no seeders :/ JUST (as in 30min ago) got "A Lifetime Of Temporary Relief", and I must say, it's great (as far as I've heard it) :D Another Low fan |
