I've been watching a couple of good old gore movies recently but I need some more recommendations. Last saturday I watched House Of 1000 Corpses, the Rob Zombie flick. It was quite boring despite the cool scenery and the cute mental chick. I downloaded The Hills Have Eyes too (the '77 version), and I plan on watching the Evil Dead and Dawn of the Dead, two classics I've never watched entirely for some reason. Also The Descent which looked very promising but which I missed last year at the cinema. Any cool stuff to recommend me? I have a hard time watching scenes of torture (that eliminates stuff like Saw, Hostel or Audition for instance), don't see the appeal at all, but I'm open to anything really. I like the classic slasher movies. Is Wolf Creek any good? What about Dog Soldiers (not sure it's an actual horror movie)?

Yeah, Bad Taste and Braindead. Reanimator is a classic as well.
I've seen loads of gore movies as a teenager but, sadly, I don't remember the names of most of them.

Try Lucio Fulci for some demented Italian gore from the 70s.
"Dog Soldiers" is the British movie about soldiers fighting werevolves, isn't it? Seen it on television. Not very gory, but it's a tight little action flick.
"Haute Tension" by Alexandre Aja (the guy who remade The Hills Have Eyes) is quite brutal, I guess it's all right if you don't mind a screenplay full of holes.
It's all I can think of for now.

Dog Soldiers is werewolves, what more do you want? I'll defer to ms starmekitten, but she'll definitely recommend Bad Taste and Brain Dead, and also all the Evil Dead films, plus any number of obscure zombie films. Ace.

braindead (or dead alive if you live in the UK) is a definite must see.. one of the best gory movies i have seen. simply brilliant.

wolf creek is ok. i didn't find it that scary at all. the film is located not far from where i live actually, and friends from work recommended it to me saying that it'd make me not want to go out into the outback by myself. unfortunately, it wasn't that scary.

I quite like dog soldiers, it is very british.
Try basket case: A young man carrying a big basket that contains his deformed Siamese-twin brother seeks vengeance on the doctors who separated them against their will.
And mr cheeseman is correct all those films I'd happily force on anyone. You've seen bad taste haven't you Denis? If you haven't seen brain dead you haven't lived. Story goes, these great big rats come scuttling off the slave ships and raped all the little tree monkeys...
As far as Fulci goes the classic place to start is Zombie Flesh Eaters with the brilliantly squeamish thing in the eye scene. Yum.
[edit] Denis, you've never seen evil dead or dawn of the dead? Then first and foremost you have to watch the evil dead trilogy. All three are bloody ace. Dawn of the dead the original or the remake? I prefer the original because I like my zombie films to be more old school but the remake is also valid. Have you seen the other Romero flicks? you could skip Day of the Dead (blows) but Night of the dead is great. The other one is... ok.

There's a spanish classic quite hard to find for you I guess... I can't remember the tittle...
I think it's a short, so maybe I could find it on youtube. I'll link it for you.
[EDIT] - It was titled "Hijomoto vs Zombies Radioactivos"
[EDIT2] - The two "Evilio" shorts from the early "Santiago Segura" were also great. It was all downhill from there. Couldn't find any of this stuff on youtube, but I'll try to upload them for you (and the world).

Yeah but make sure you get the uncut version. The edited version is a bit pointless.
The Beyond is pretty gory, as is Demons and Demons 2. So is The Fly 2.

OK, before everyone jumps on me for missing all the good flicks, I've seen Bad Taste and Brain Dead (actually, I could see that one again. So thanks for the idea). I've seen Evil Dead 3 aka Army of Darkness but onyl bits of the previous ones. From the Romero tetralogy I've seen Night (fabulous) and Land (brilliant). And I've seen most of the classics (TCM, Halloween, Friday 13th and the like). Reminds me that I downloaded Cannibal Holocaust a while ago but never saw it.
The Fly 2? Are you serious? I had the idea it was crap. Basket Case suonds good, and Reanimator could be fun. I'll check out Fulci too. Hey, I've never seen any Argento movies, where should I start?

i watched army of darkness the other day for the first time in years, but was totally distraught to see that there are two seperate endings for the movie. the one i saw back in the day ends with bruce returning to present day and to the 7-11/supermarket etc that he first went "missing" from and finds the she-bitch and finishes with the absolutely brilliant line "hail to the king baby!" whereas the version i saw recently had the film ending in post apocalyptic london and it was incredibly lame. i was scandalised.

"The Fly 2" is absolute crap in my memory too, I'd stay away. (But then, he didn't say it was good, he said gory.)
"Demons" is a Lamberto (not Mario) Bava film, I saw that aeons ago, silly dirty gorefest with an 80s heavy metal soundtrack. I was amused (and sometimes a bit disgusted).
I surprised myself recently by not hating the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake.

According to imdb.com:
The movie actually has two different endings, both of which are available on the DVD. In the original ending Ash miscounts the drops of sleeping potion, and wakes up 100 years later than intended, in a world devastated by nuclear war. The more heroic S-Mart ending was filmed after the original ending was deemed too depressing.
I also prefer the first one.

See, for years I had it the other way round and had the post apocalyptic ending and the supermarket was a new one on me so I was thrilled at the new smooth Bruce ending.

Oh wow, in searching for that I found this:

If you're into campiness then I'd recommend Spiderbaby, a great film. Otherwise I'd say the only other movie that's genuinely scared the shit out of me in the last few years was Fire Walk with Me, I got some strange nightmares from that film. Oh and Troll 2 is pretty sweet, I doubt you'll ever see worse acting in your entire life.

Yeah! Troll 2. Creepiest and worst acting kid in the history of cinema. I think we've had this discussion before.
The scariest film I've seen was probably Freaks or The Unknown by Tod Browning. Oh, and Robert Wise's "The Haunting". The Others was quite scary too.
Tre, have you watched Wild Zero? The one about Guitar Wolf fighting alien zombies with laser guitar picks and sword guitars. Sorry, I'm in a Guitar Wolf craze phase right now. You'll love it.

As Jedi suggested, if you want really nasty gore you can't go wrong with Italian horror-preferably 70-80's. Cannibals, zombies and gloved killers abound!
Vilainde, I did'nt like 1000 Corpses either-started good, then turned into an incoherant mess. Benji, hope I don't sound like Mr. Smartipants, but it's the other way around-Dead Alive is actually the US name for Braindead. There was already a US film called Braindead, so they had to rename it. Jedi, I thought the TCM remake wasn't a bad effort. And Heywood, Troll 2 was hilarious...incredibly cheap rubbish, and I love the way the troll town is called Nilbog!
I prefare the Apocalypse version of AOD, although the S-Mart one is fun. I'd like to see The Descent and Wolf Creek.

The funny thing is that the movie is called Troll but it's about Goblins. Nilbog, I forgot about that. Such a masterpiece. I like when they go to the country store to get groceries and when they ask for coffee the clerk says,"We don't have coffee here, IT'S THE DEVILS DRINK!"

If there's any movies that drive me to murder, it's those "begoorah" and "bejaysus" Oirish hollywood films. And Leprechaun falls in to that category. If i had a time machine you could be sure (to be sure) that Darby O Gill And The Little People would never have been made.
Seán Says: I need to raise €50,000,000 to make a CGI film adaptation of Matlock. Eddie Murphy will voice Matlock

Found the Dawn of the Dead DVD yesterday in the bargain bin, but I've been trying to find which version I bought and it's a mess. Seems there are at least a dozen existing versions of the movie. Mine is 113 min long and is titled "Zombie" (I think that's the French name of the movie), and from what I gathered it should be the version edited by Dario Argento.
