Thanks a lot, Cheeseman! I like it. The sighing way he pronounces the end of 'ocean' reminds me of Frank's singing! I think FB would really like that version. It's kinda funny that there's this and that Kristin Hersh covers the UK Surf version. Popular tune!

Here's GLP doing it live in 2000:

And here's some previous GLP topics about or that mention him covering it. There was a real old thread about him doing it live, but I can't find it:

GLP has to be one of the best singers in the indie/alt/rock sphere, some of his tracks give me goosebumps. Thanks for posting, oh Captain my Captain.

The pixies/glp situation is full of overlap in people who played with both..all sorts of coincidence which i mentioned many times in previous threads....another connection is that Hersh and Phillips played along with John Doe in touring collaboration called 'the exile follies', and the both have done covers of wave....

I wonder why Wave is so popular. Save for Joey's intro, it's boring.

Also, Rolf Harris is an amazing artist. I have this recollection from when I was about 7 years old of Rolf Harris on this tv show. He just came out and drew this huge painting of Ayers Rock in a minute flat. A big streak of paint dripped down the canvas and ruined it which I thought was a crying shame.

I agree Samurai, Wave is not a song that "sums up" the pixies for me, in Grant Lee's case the reason he gave for playing 'Wave' live was that it was one of the few pixies songs that he could really play live, he said that most of the pixies stuff was so schizophrenically put together that he found it hard to break down to play live (in the context of the interview he meant the schizophrenically remark in a very complementary way - he is a massive pixies fan).

In Hersh’s case, the cover was for the ‘High School Reunion’ cd (it’s a good cd), and all the tracks are from the movies, Wave being from 'Pump up the Volume'.
