What about... Cahors, France ?
We've got some fine food here (truffes, foie gras, etc...) and erm... some famous wine (I can't believe I'm advertising wine !)
You could play in there :
----- Or what about... Condom, France ?
Why come there ? 1- It has a funny name. 2- You could eat some "poulet fermier" 3- Did I mention the funny name ?
http://www.frenchcanalboat.com/aquitaine.htm
----- Well, I had to try. But honestly, any town in the south-west of France would be great. |

frank- we constantly get skipped over by so many of my favorites here in buffalo, ny. the pixies, neil, robbie fulks, flaming lips, sonic youth, etc....
we have two perfect venues for you to come play. ani difranco restored a church downtown, called the church. also - the only honkeytonk in western new york called the sportsmen's tavern.
last year we were lucky enough to have cafe tacuba stop in for a free show downtown (one year ago yesterday). unfortunately, it was only attended by myself, a dozen light skinned south americans, and a few hundred displaced downtown drunkards...
the city has a very rich history, is located betweeen two great lakes (15 minutes to the falls), hosts amazing architecture, has a great brewery, and even two professional sports teams; however, most artists choose to play cleveland, pittsburgh, toronto, rochester (i dunno why), syracuse, and many other cities surrounding us. i'm sure y'all drive right thru here on the 1-90 between cleveland and albany.
well that's my rant... would love to see you here as i'm sure hundreds and thousands of other buffalonians would.

I totally agree. Our food and wines are the best. May I remind you that Germans invaded Alsace 3 times in less than a century (1870-1940), just because our food is a thousand times better than theirs.

Gruene Hall would be perfect for Frank. Fun old-timey venue that would pull a great Frank crowd.

I had totally forgotten two great north New Jersey venues:
http://www.bergenpac.org/ - Formerly the John Harms Theatre. A bit of a 'square' venue, but it is certainly a theatre, and i know your opinion on playing theatres. Don't let the fact that Foreigner is playing there deter you!
http://www.mexicalibluescafe.com/ - A nice sized club that also houses a very tasty Mexican restaurant. I saw Camper Van Beethoven there and was throughly impressed with the kind and helpful staff, as well as their beer selection (Magic Hat #9!) and their quesadillas. Most highly recomended. Plus, staying in Jersey is much cheaper than finding a place in Manhattan, and this is only about 7 miles from NYC.

the city of Pacifica, CA, about 20 minutes from San Francisco and an hour from Santa Cruz has a couple dive bars that would be incredible to see you at. It's a nice little seaside town that I'm sure you must have been through before as the one goes right down it's coast, it's right before Devil's Slide. It would be similarly awesome to see you in Half Moon Bay. Also, the city of Campbell has a really cool little venue called the Gaslighter, it used to be a movie theatre and mostly all ages and high school oriented bands play there, though they do serve beer. I know that you seem to play in San Francisco more often than anywhere else, but it would be really cool to see you in one of the sleepier surrounding towns.

Nice suggestions, Mickey. I'm already missing N. California. Unfortunately, the Gaslighter in Campbell has closed.
From their website...
The Gaslighter has closed its doors after 37 years at the Campbell location. Our last day in business was May 31, 2006. The building has been sold, and is going to become an ultra lounge with Las Vegas type acts. We want to thank you for all of your patronage and support. We will keep the website up and running for updates on finding a new location.

PLS CM BCK 2 VNNA, AUTRICHE!
the ARENA (a former slaughterhouse) would be a perfect place, also for a pixies concert. inside/outside possbible, i reckon ~500 to 2000 people capacity.
also, there are a lot of small pubs, perfect for solo acoustic guitar gigs. howe gelb did & does a lot of touring in those. in case you really consider to come, i could recommend some. i would love to see you solo, just with your guitar !!!! think of an european solo tour !!!

Hi Frank,
If you ever do another Australian East Coast tour, Byron Bay Community Centre is a very nice intimate venue: seats 170 max. I have seen Lloyd Cole [acoustic] & Bonnie Prince Billy [electric] there, great acoustics, etc. If you can't make it to Byron, anywhere in Australia would welcome an FB gig.

Hi Frank,
France / Normandie /Caen should be a great escale Come to the Big Bang Café or "La fonderie" http://www.bigbandcafe.com/
We are the center of great food: incredibles Cheeses like "Camember", "Pont l'eveque", "livarot", we are the country of apple and pear, so... delicious Cider of apples, Cider of pear, Calva, Speciality of apples cooks, or some special dessert like "la teurgoule"
It's too the battle of normandy, have a look to the Memorial of Caen. http://www.memorial-caen.fr/portail_gb/hp/hp.asp
Some typical town to see like Beuvron en auge, Pont l'évèque. http://www.cometofrance.com/BEUVRON-EN-AUGE.html
Normandie is beautiful. Come on Frank.
See you soon :D
Fabrice.

You haven't played Rotterdam for ages
and I once read in VOX that you would love to open a coffeeshop in Rotterdam one day. Well, playing a show in Nighttown (www.nighttown.nl) would definately help!

I don't think FB has ever made it down to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
If given a shot, the NORVA (Norfolk, Virginia) pulls in some decent acts. Nice enough club. About a 1500 person capacity.

this is great!
winnipeg would love a frank tour stop again!
there is a new place called the venue which is pretty cool. they redid an old movie theatre a year ago. sound and atmosphere is really nice. capacity is 750, they serve bevies, and shows are all ages.
http://www.uptownmag.com/archive/feature/06jan05.htm
also there's the burton cummings theatre where you played with the pixies. capacity of 1700.
the rendezvouz where you played with the catholics has since been shutdown for a condo development.
and if you are unable to make it through winnipeg think about grand forks or fargo, north dakota (how ya doin' margie!). not sure if you've played there before.

Frankus, How about you do a little reunion at Jackson, Mississippi's Hal and Mal's, where you played in 1993 with the Rev. Horton Heat(h). That was my first hint that you existed, b/c I was just a kid listening to Nirvana. Either that, or come back and hit Proud Larry's in Oxford, MS, where I got to hang out w/ you a bit in Jan. 1999. Sadly, there aren't any other places I'd recommend you play in MS aside from those and Morgan Freeman's Club Ground Zero in Clarksdale, MS. It would be a hike for me, but I'd be there. -FranknWeezer p.s. Let me add the best song on FMRM, in my opinion, is Wanderlust. Great stuff. |

Provo, Utah. You know, Jim Swarthout Realty, Sally Anne Cavanaugh. For reference, TMBG played in my tiny hometown Provo suburb of Springville, and filled up an amphitheatre with hip kids.
Muse Music is pretty ok. Local CD shop with a stage and some couches and a floor.
It's part of "historic downtown Provo," occupying and old brick former meat processing plant or whatever. Stop by the in-freaking-credible Provo library, in the restored 19th century academy buiding. It's LORVELY.
No exterior shots of the Muse to be found, but here's a crappy stage shot:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I wouldn't even have started the topic if I knew there were Bush Ass Kissers here as I don't even want to hear there "outrage" and comments at all because I have heard them and they are all wrong. |

You've played Cleveland a bunch but never AKRON, its neighbor to the south - so instead of making us die-hard Akron FB Fans have to drive up there, why not play the awesome AKRON CIVIC THEATER, in downtown Akron, plenty of cool concerts there, its a bigger-sized venue, too. Alternatively, a smaller cool club is the Lime Spider, also in Akron, OH -- check into them!

I loved seeing you in 95? in Denton Texas after Fry St Fair at Rick's Place. I think it was was the Lyle Workman/ Nick Vincent/ Tone Mamone (sp?) lineup. Was Tony Mamone the bass player at one point?
Now we must all try and understand The songs of Frank Black Francis, So let's declare it a dance And carry on the legacy! |

Hello Frank!!
I speak for many when I ask for you to come and play somewhere in Nova Scoita Canada. We are so lonley out here and we need someone like you to come out here to blow our minds.
If you are looking for a specific place, I would say to come and play 'The Pavilion' in Halifax, the captial. It's an all ages venue and would make for an awesome show!
There are many other places here to play, bigger, smaller, all ages, or those who cater more to adults.
I'm pretty sure you've never made your way down here, and it's an awesome place to be! And if you have, please come back, because we all love you!
Thanks for all

I second the Halifax notion! It's a beautiful city with decent atmosphere, friendly people and a number of great venues ranging from pubs to proper clubs. Even if only me and all the people I've introduced to the Pixies/your solo music came it would be a packed house. The east coast of Canada is typically overlooked by many bands in favour for Montreal, but us Maritimers are always hungry for great live music.
Very nice of you to ask for suggestions of places to play. Good luck on the upcoming tour, and hope to see you in our neck of the woods in the future!
