So how many of you guys are headed for an early grave like myself? How many do you smoke a day and what are your brands?
I gave up about a year and a half ago but recently I was getting pretty stressed and bought a pack. Now Im back on about 20 a day. Recently I've developed an expensive taste for cigars, from which you can almost gain sexual pleasure, they are that good, like smoking twenty cigarettes at once. When Im not smoking cigars, my preferred cancer stick is Regal.

Ps I hope this thread doesn't offend anyone, if you object, then just dont bother posting.

Very wise, Carl. I've a friend who smokes and the amount of times I've visited him in hospital after an attack is criminal. He really should know better. But he is a walking time bomb. Act first, think later.

I've got asthma too so it wouldn't be very wise to smoke. To be honest I wouldn't smoke anyway. I just don't see the point.

I don't remember why I started smoking, I didn't really smoke until I was 20. Before then I'd have the odd one in the pub but it was literally one or two a month and then from that to twenty-a-day for I don't know what reason. I'd have a coffee and a smoke for breakfast, then a coffee and a smoke for lunch then a coffee and a smoke before bed with various other smokes in between.

I now smoke ten a day and vary between cheapo brands and rolling tobacco. Could I afford it I'd smoke camel lights probably, smooth.

I think I was about 20-21. I smoked a little bud before anything else, no cigarettes. They used to make me heave everytime. Then one summer down Newquay, after running out of the green stuff, I started on rolling tobacco. 'Drum', of all things. Weird smell to it. Then I had my Golden Virginia years. After that, I became lazy and now cigarettes are the norm.

Part of me wants to quit, to live a healthy life, but another part of me says no, that time has not yet come. You are not yet the kind of person who 'doesn't smoke'. Someday, though.

I don't understand smoking personally. Nobody EVER likes it the first time (well, I could be wrong, let me know) which means that basically you are doing something you don't like, you know is expensive, disgusting, and going to kill you. Benefits? Looking cool? Fitting in? Something to do? I don't know.

Now once you're hooked, it's a different story, but I don't see what gets people into that situation to begin with.

well, in my experience, a lot my mates who smoke followed fbc's pattern. Started off with hash, got hooked on tobacco.

The first time I smoked I was rather drunk, and was fairly indifferent, as I am now. I have one or two when I go out, if someone has some. If not, I don't. I've neither the addictive nature or financial capacity to take it further than that, not that I'd particularly like to.

Mind you, I've always liked the idea of a pipe.

I've smoked since I was 10. That was 25 years ago. Yikes. It started as occasional smoking, and by 13 I was buying them. At that time they were .90 cents. By 19 I was on 3 packs a day...Chesterfield non-filters, but then switched to Marlboro reds. At 30 I was down to a pack a day, and had moved to Parliament Lights. Now I am a Marlboro Menthol Lights smoker and go through 10 - 20 cigarettes in 24 hours. I am almost ready to quit. I had a medical scare with smoking a couple months back where I visited the dentist. He found a patch of white tissue in the back of my mouth which he biopsied. After a week of mortification, it came back as non-cancerous, yet I was pushed for a second opinion. After chest X-rays and a throat endoscopy, it was revealed that I was strangely in perfect health. I have decided that I better grab my luck and run with it by abolishing my smoking habit. I am gearing my will up to quit cold turkey. I run 2 miles daily, and on the weekends, 4 miles. It doesn't affect my breathing persay, but I'm sure once I quit, I'll be able to up my running distance.

I love smoking. I loved it from the second I tried it for the first time. But these days, the expense is sickening, and as I get older and can feel the concept of mortality unfolding a bit quicker, I think I need to give it up.

It's just one of those things.

I started for the same reason as fbc. Id been smoking quite a lot of dope at the time, and my mate was on his way round with a quarter of skunk but when he arrived his dealer hadn't produced the goods. He still had the cigarettes we were gonna use to roll the spliffs with, so we decided to smoke em anyway. They were Lambert & Butler whites, I remember it like it was yesterday.

The only thing that gets me down about it is the cost, they're so fucking expensive in this country. I do genuinely enjoy smoking as a pasttime though, and anyone who doesn't believe me can kiss my chuddies.
Good luck with the quitting TRANSMARINE. I went cold turkey bout a year and a half ago, it was a pretty intense week but I managed to get through it and give up, that is, until last week....

I just don't get smoking. And not even because of the health risks, but because I can't understand how sucking on burning things is appealing. I guess it was mostly my upbringing, though. My parents never smoked, and I didn't have friends, so I wasn't exposed that much to it. I try to be tolerant about it, but it just seems really dumb to me.

I'm still a smoker. Started stealing them when I was 12. Started smoking everyday around 15. I happen to live in the tobacco belt, I can still get a pack of premiums for $2.60 I love smoking. I can't help but think of Bill Hicks when the topic of smoking comes up, so I feel like posting some of his quotes.

quote:
Non-smokers die every day. Sleep tight!

quote:
I smoke. If this bothers anyone, I recommend you look around the world in which we live, and... I don't know, shut your fucking mouth?"

quote:
It is hard to quit smoking. Every one of them looks pretty good to me right now. Every cigarette looks like it was made by God, rolled by Jesus and moistened shut with Claudia Schiffer's pussy right now

quote:
"To my delight, I find that there is a different warning on each pack of cigarettes. Mine says: 'Warning: Smoking can cause fetal damage or premature birth'. Fuck it – I've found my brand! 'Yeah, give me a carton of Low Birth Weights.' Just don't get the ones that say lung cancer, you know? Shop around, it is your body."

quote:
How much do you smoke, sir? Two packs a day, is that right? Pussy. I go through two lighters a day. That's right, two lighters! You're a health nut compared to me. You're like the Jack LaLanne of smokers compared to me."

quote:
I was on the aeroplane coming over here. It's a non-smoking plane – get this, right? No smoking, but they allow children. Hmmm. 'Well, smoking bothers me.' Well, guess what ...?"

I only smoke cigarettes when I'm writing, basically. It helps me concentrate for whatever reason -- and I never have more than three per session. I don't want to turn into a chain smoker. Especially when my preferred brand is like, one of the most expensive brands out there:

Best stuff ever, though.

Shame on this thread for making me want to smoke the whole pack in one sitting.

And hooray for cigars.

I don't smoke, never will, because I need to get teeth implants and apparantely they don't work if you smoke. Anyhoo, I think it was Groucho Marx that said 'I once read about the effects of smoking: I was so shocked that I gave up reading.' I like that quote.

I went to school with a guy who started smoking so that he would have something in common with the hottest girl in the class. He thought that it would be his ticket to going out with her. But she hated him so it never happened.

The stupidest smoking related story i ever heard was to do with a different guy in school, who was told that he'd be given a 10 pack of John Player if he shaved off his pubes. And he did it.
But that guy was weird anyway, he used to wank in the study hall.

Hicks died of pancreatic cancer which can be caused by smoking.
His smoking routines were hilarious though, and I dont think the point of his act was to advertise or justify smoking per se, rather it was a retort to all the patronising, annoying people who constantly get on your back about smoking.
