Nooooooooooo! I knew they had one fan, but the chances of him being a Frank Black fan...
You've serioulsy underachieved, my friend, well, not you, but that club of yours. The potential of the place is huge but...you know all this already. I can't believe Shearer won nowt. So what do the fans think of Roeder? Good or bad? |

I cant believe Duff went to Newcastle. They seem to continually sign class players despite being perenially crap. Owen, Parker, Emre et al all seem to be lured to the barcodes by the promise of ridiculously high wages and the promise of playing for a 'big club' that wins trophies. The first promise always seems to come true but never the second.

That's because they always have crap managers.
When they had a great one (Bobby), it was when he had gone senile.
I can't believe they got Duff for £5m. That's an absolute bargain, the guy is class. I wish we had gotten rid of Ronaldo for £20m and then signed duff instead at that price.

It's an absolute steal. I heard it was £10 million which sounded reasonable, but £5 million!?

I read that the reason Duff went to Newcastle was that Liverpool and Spurs weren't prepared to stump up the £70,000 a week that Newcastle offered him. I'm not necessarily saying that this is definitely the case with Duff but I always wonder what goes through a players mind when they make a decision like that. Do they think, my family will starve if Im paid a mere £50,000 a week rather than £70,000? What difference is that money really going to make to their lives when they already have enough money to buy a mansion and a fleet of sports cars?

He would have more chance of winning something with both Liverpool and Tottenham.
What happened to Tottneham having a £7m bid rejected? That must have been a load of bollocks.

I'd rather go to Tottenham than Newcastle or Liverpool at this moment. I have a feeling they'll have a great season.

They're certainly having a great pre-season, depsite losing one of their best players (for a nice sum of money mind)

Apparently Spurs have offered Danny Murphy + Andy Reid + cash for Pascal Chimbonda. Paul Jewell has rejected it. I for one would be very happy with that IF it's true but I'd prefer it to be Reto Zeigler rather than Reid, who has looked dodgy when I've seen him play.
It seems Whelan and Jewell are sticking to their £6,000,000 price tag for Chimbo but since we've signed right-back Boyce from Palace his future is still uncertain.

Yeah I would be more than happy with that if I were you Stu. Andy Reid would be a class act if he just lost a few pounds, and Danny Murphy would be a decent squad player. Chimbonda isn't even that good, I think Jewell and Whelan are just sticking to their guns and being stubborn to show everyone that they are not to be fucked with. There is no way he is worth six million though, you wont find anyone offering that much for him.
Speaking of over priced players, what do you think of £18.6 mill for Carrick Homers? A panic buy if you ask me. He's a decent player, but not worth a penny over £10 mill. Fergie is slowly losing his marbles.

I think it's a good deal too. Both Reid and Murphy are good midfielders, and will be very good ones if Jewell can get them working harder.
Carrick is overpriced but that's the Chelsea effect for you. United tried to use it to get more for Ruud but our negotiating team are nearly as bad as Chelsea's. Actually I am not even sure that Chelsea have a negotiating team. I think they just send a dog along and tell it to bark once for £10m, twice for £20m and so on.
Must be an angry fucking dog most of the time.
But despite the price, I do rate Carrick, and I think there is more to come from him. I really like midfielders like him who rarely give the ball away. They are a priceless comodity. Scholes is one of the best I have seen at that (Zidane probably the best). It;s not as though Carrick just passes it simply all the time, he also produces killer through balls. I am really looking forward to seeing him play with Scholes now.
I am not so keen on getting that Senna though. He doesn't look that great to me and he is 30. I hope it's just paper talk 'cos it seems like a silly signing to me. I also saw us linked with Kuyt today, but he looks overrated too to me.

Looks like someone else is on the move, Ashley Cole. He is a twat. He is claiming that Arsenal 'hung him out to dry'. Hung him out to dry in what sense? By nurturing him from a young age and making him a millionaire in the process? By rightfully punishing him for liasing with Chelsea about a possible transfer? Apparently he was disgusted by Arsenal offering him only £55,000 a week when he was promised £60,000. Boo-fucking-hoo. He did the dirty on Arsenal then tried to pin the blame on them. He's too busy obsessed with coming a bling celebrity to show any loyalty to a club who made him what he is today.

Went watching Wigan in a friendly today. We're not looking too bad. It's got me excited for the new season now!
As much as I can't wait for the Premierhip to start part of me feels that the Championship may be a very interesting league this season, especially with the number of teams fighting for at least a play-off place. I think that league is wide-open this year.

Yeah, lower league football is much more interesting in terms of almost anybody in the league being in with the chance to win it. Whereas the Premiership is always pretty predicatble bar the occasional one season wonder.

I think Chelsea will win today, as they will for most of the season.
United are also looking good pre-season, but experience has taught me that pre-seasons mean very little.

Watford at Goodison is it? Might be more difficult than some expect. You just never know with newly promoted teams. They'll be desperate to pick up a point from their first game.

There are two Everton fans that sit behind me at work, and they are full of optimism too. I am not sure why, it's not like you had a great pre-season (or great last season for that matter).
I don't expect you to speak for those two guys, but why are you so optimistic Guy?

Personally Im not that optimistic, but I think there is a general air of optimism amongst us at the moment. Its mainly because Moyes has finally assembled a half decent looking squad, with some genuine strength and depth (although we could still use a new left winger). For once his foray into the transfer market has been fruitfull, Lescott and Johnson both look to be good, solid signings. After all, there's nothing like an 8.6 million pound striker to get the fans excited.

I just wonder if Everton fans are gonna expect another 2004/05 season. I bet a lot of them are, and I am not sure that is gonna happen. The teams at the top have gotten stronger since, as have Tottenham, and I think Newcastle will also do better this year. If I was an Everton fan this year I would be pretty happy with a UEFA cup slot (unless you got relegated and got there as FA Cup runners up of course), just as, as a United fan, I am gonna be happy enough with second place again and a cup.

Im not expecting too much, being an Evertonian has taught me not to. But I am hoping for a bit more of an attacking approach to games, a few more goals and a decent cup run. Anywhere in the top ten Id be happy with, I know were not gonna make Champs league, and who really gives a fuck about the UEFA cup. I think Tottenham will be much weaker for losing Carrick, and Newcastle still haven't signed a striker. Outside 'the big 4' and the newly promoted teams everyone else is a much of a muchness If you ask me. We have the same chance of finishing fifth as Newcastle, Spurs, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Wigan etc etc

I don't think Tottenham will miss Carrick that much. Zakora looked a good player at the World Cup. Then again, so did Djemba Djemba in 2002
It's tough for Moyes 'cos he got his success with Everton from not playing great football, but he knows the fans want to see better football this season. I don't blame them though, I'd hate to support a team that decided it was going to start playing effective yet boring football.
