I'm really enjoying my nuts at the moment, especially the non-salty kind. All kinds really, mixed in with chocloate and raisins, organic - prefer it if they're shelled though.
So, specifically, cashew nuts and pistachios....and, even though they're not technically nuts, I've been eating sunflower seeds as well.
So, what's your favourite nut and how do you like it?

THANK GOD you aren't referring to the magazine.
I like cashews the most.
By the way the peanut is also not actually a nut. Fun fact for you there (I know I had a HELL of a lot of fun with it).

Don't like 'em, they get in the way in chocolate and stick in your teeth. The taste, like fish, does not tip balance out the annoyingness.
Although, I like salty pistachios and roast chestnuts.

aaww, PixieSteve, Denis managed to keep it clean and you just soiled it. tsk.
Chestnuts are fantastic. My dad had an accident with one (it's true) He forgot to pierce it before roasting then when he ate it, it exploded in his mouth, burning the inside. He said skin was just peeling off his tongue. urgh.

I like balls.
Swan Balls and Debutante Balls and just anything where a girl can dress to the nines.
I like all kinds of nuts as well. From the Fancy pistachio to the lowly pea nut. |

Cashew nuts are my favourites, followed by pistachios and dry roasted peanuts. Salted peanuts are okay too but I can feel my arteries clogging when I eat them.

I love any nuts with one exception: chestnuts.
Nice dry almonds, unsalted walnuts, of course pistachios, oh, and who could resist macadamians? I was in Hawaii and stocked up like a chipmunk.

Oh yes, roasted macadamia nuts are the best. My uncle had a macadamia orchard on his farm, it is damn tricky cracking them open without spoiling the flesh.
Cashews are good too. Ground cashew, basil and olive oil = super pesto.
Roasted sunflower seeds for cooking - slow cooked leg of lamb with yoghurt honey and roasted sunflower seed......................

Cashews! How could I forget?
And I admit I've not tried lamb that way, but you've just made me hungry. We once did a really nice dish for Christmas with figs that was unmatchable, or nearly. I'd put it on par with lamb on the spit and some of my aunt's tzatziki.

I actually though that this thread might be about that. It's a stupid magazine, although I like it for the little facts! And the chicks.
Salted peanuts are yummy. Pistachios and cashews are also a fave.
"I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut."

They are great with beer aren't they? Which is best with beer though, nuts or crisps (potato chips)?

I haven't stopped thinking of that scene since I read the thread.
Watching Christoper Guest's performance in that movie and the extra scenes...especially where he's talking about the different accents and speech patterns the Pomford County boys have is like watching a great Jazz musician finding that point between reality and utter otherworldy playing....totally mindblowing. |
