You know, an all-out forum war between this forum and another -- say, the Radiohead forum -- would be a total blast. Don't you think, jimmy?
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Dear Readers, So here I am, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, and eating my patented snack mix: chinese noodles & croutons, and trying to find one question -one- that I'd like to answer. How did it get to this point? It's July and I'm still using flannel sheets and I haven't washed them in weeks. It's been months since a girl invited me over and made dinner for me. I'm almost out of croutons, and then what am I going to do? When did I lose my mediocre looks and idiotic charm?

Dear jimmy,
Why do those network guys and forum techies all act like getting your home network hooked up is ridiculously simple when it's not? My modem/router expired last night and I spent 4 damn hours getting the thing running again. Like we all have the IP address of the linksys router and our passwords we put in on the router config page 5 years ago memorized or something. Ane then you have to turn on and off all the devices in some mysterious magical order to get your DHCP lease to be recognized by all the devices on the network.
It sucks and it's really frustrating. Why to they pretend that it's simple? Why jimmy why?

Dear Jefrey, I don't know. I don't understand that shit at all. Maybe if I had to I could do it myself, but whenever something complicated needs to be done with my computer I call my friend Chris and he does it for me. I'll watch everything he does and then five minutes later forget it all. I'm sorry to say, when it comes to things I don't care about, I've got a mind like a fucking sive. Did I spell that right? You know, the thing with the holes that you drain pasta with- like a pasta strainer.

i don't understand that expression anyway. if you had a mind like a sieve wouldn't that mean that your mind collects everything valuable that goes through it. and lets everything else go through |

Dear kathryn, I wish it was like a steel trap. I only remember useless trivia.
Dear coastline, Thank you, I think my dictionary is in the closet and it's way too hot to go over and get it. Good looking out.
Dear floop, If you think of the information as being all water ( or liquid or whatnot ) then it makes sense. I don't use that expression often but I like it, just like "I could care less" ( which has come up on this forum before, and which, by the way, I never say )- yes it's wrong, but it sounds better than "I couldn't care less"

Dear Jimmy
Several questions and so much angst:
Why this insomnia, why me, how can I possibly be worthy of whatever gift lies underneath these hours of wakefulness?
Is it true that when asked, "What's love got to do with it?, Tina answered "A lot"?
Lastly, Jimmy, how can you, a mere mortal, be so very very wise?
Sleeplessly,
Kathryn

Dear s wrenn, What's it like being jimmy? If you ever saw that movie Pecker, that song that they play at the beginning and end, that's what it's like.
Dear Mr. bdh, Buy ( or get at the library ) the book "I Like You/ Hospitality Under The Influence" by Amy Sedaris. I swear you'll love it.
Dear the acorahs, The best thing for writers block, I've heard, is to keep a journal- writing informally helps break the block.
Dear kathryn, Reading back through my past posts in this thread I'm a little creeped out by all the drug references I made. I'd edit them but, if I tried to edit every stupid thing I wrote there'd be almost nothing left. Anyway, insomnia, it's a problem that I too have had my whole life. I'm amazed by people that fall asleep right away. How do they do it? Now I think- maybe it's not really a problem- it's what I like. I like to lay in the dark and go over the day's events in my head. Then I like to bounce around the years and think about different things that have happened, and how I wish they had happened. So there are pills that do work, even those generic over-the-counter sleep aids are ok, but in this one area, I say it's better to let your body decide when it needs sleep.

Isn't it? mr. bdh would love it.
You're Greek? Have you ever been to Greece?
By the way, Sunday morning I was watching the A&E Biography of Melissa Gilbert ( I caught the last twenty minutes; she had a very strange relationship with Michael Landon ) and after that they played the Olivia Newton John bio which i watched up until they got to Two of a Kind, which I saw in the theatre. Anyway, I decided to download "Hopelessly devoted to you"- what a good song!!!! I'm dedicating it to you, kathryn. Imagine me outside in my pajamas.

I'm not worthy of such a dedication!
Jimmy, back to sharing your wisdom, please.
Dear Jimmy
Am I the only one who has noticed that Amy Sedaris has overtaken her brother David in the business of being funny? She makes it seem effortless whereas he's begun to seem like he's trying too hard, and not succeeding.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Also, Jimmy, is it normal to swoon?
Thank you.

I think you're right. Naked was so good, and is my favorite. Me Talk Pretty One Day was good too, but like you said, it seemed forced sometimes.
His last book was better, I thought, because it was more about the stories themselves, a lot of which were really sad. The beach house, his relationships with his other sisters, "Consider The Stars".
But anyway, that book came out in the summer of 2004. It's 07. I did see that the New Yorker website has a story called "Turbulence" and another called "It's Catching"- both very good.

David Sedaris is funny, but less so since I found out he made a lot of his stories up. Sister Amy is funny even just looking at her. She needn't try at all. |

Dear Kathryn: I'm not jimmy, and I don't play him on a website, but I thought I should point out that I feel the same way about this. That was a great movie. I bet it was all the Leonard Cohen songs that hooked you. Does he make you swoon.?
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Now, please, let Jimmy roll the thread...Jimmy. Perhaps he can explain how more than one forum member feels this way about the movie.
