All other FB albums edition:

Oddballs: "Remake/Remodel" - because live it is so much better OMRFTH: None Snake Oil: I'm Going Down Christmass: All Around the World
Grand Duchy: Black Suit

Dark End of the Street is disqualified from selection as is Song of the Shrimp and SSMVGD. Go Find Your Saint has potential. Strange Goodbye: any song that could make me feel the way this one did cannot be skipped. The title track has a little bit of mystique to it that I can't put my finger on. I know a lot of people dislike it, but I think there's something to that one. My Life is in Storage, not bad. Sing for Joy is obviously not skippable. And for those with a copy of the Japanese release, Atlantis is both a cover (so disqualified) and great.
How about Violet? |

36 has been out for two weeks. You should subscribe on iTunes and then they just arrive on your computer as they are released.
Brian and I are (I think) recording 37 this week.

It's wandering through an eerie, dark, congested forest before falling into a bottomless pit called Gouge Away.

And then after that... the long fabled Workout Podcast, which is actually moreorless finished minus a few recording segments and last minute audibles.

We've gone through the FB catalogue looking at pace and BPMs and put together a tracklist with a warm up ramping into a work out and then slowing for a cooldown. Hopefully it'll be something that a person could take to the gym and use for 45 on the treadmill or a walk or whatever.
Incidentally, Lost Weapon is great as well. You always said we never sounded like we were in a band but now you sound like you're in three: Walkmen and Interpol with a twist of Wolf Parade.
... at least I didn't say Joy Division. :)

I always said that? I don't remember saying that, or what I meant by it.
I guess there are worse indie touchstones you could have indentified. I mean I like all those band (to varying degrees), but I'd rather be compared to Joy Division than Interpol. Better to sound like you're ripping off a classic band, rather than ripping off a band that is ripping off a classic band.

Understandable, I only said that because we heard a lot of people saying we had a Joy Division sound even though neither of us had, at the time, heard them. Now that I have I can see the parallels but I don't think I'd call Interpol a ripoff band.
The breakdown around 1:30 is where I get Wolf Parade. Your vocals have that, I guess we'll say Joy Division sound in the verses. The outro, esp. your guitar around 4:10 has a Walkmen tone.
Anyway, I digress from the topic at hand, but I hope you're not taking this as offensive. I'd love to be at your next gig, standing somewhere in the back, with trenchcoat and shades and possibly selling watches and/or merch.

Not offensive in the least, and I appreciate the feedback. If and when we have a next gig feel free to be really creepy as you've suggested.
Admit it though, the only reason you like Lost Weapon is the Greek reference.

I loved 36, very refreshing approach to the podcast. I presume it will be back to gushing adoration for 37.
What recording segments did you have to cut from the workout podcast? I would love to hear "gimme danger" in the middle of the workout, but I fear thats one you had to drop.

Our pleasure. Actually Brian and I recorded last week and it's been so hectic here that I have been lax to pass along the files - but am doing so now. So soon, I hope. Soon.

When I turned on my itunes it started downloading a podcast and I thought for sure it was FB, but alas it was not. Stupid This American Life.
Aug 1st is just around the corner, though, so all is not lost. |

There is a lot of awkward silence, perhaps more than required for comedic effect, and I would apologize but for the fact that I feel this is made up for musically. A pretty good little lineup if I do say so myself.

Yeah it's a good 1. Like the humour moments. Good to hear some GD live too, as I have not heard any yet, apart from the odd youtube blip. Love Valentine too by the way, it's in my all-time FB Top 10.

Hmmm, I like the live version of Volcano more than the studio version. I think they should cover some Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs.

Thanks for the podcast.
Could Valentine and Garuda be the best Frank Black pedal steel song? Probably not, but I love that song. |
