I just listened to 15 and 16 the other day. I liked the EDF interview and I think that FB interview is gold! I hope in the future (after you've milked it!) you will post a transcript. I loved how asking FB what could have been a softball became an exploration of the creative process. Creativity or imagination? The Man has it in spades.
I swear you did. But I was on crack when I was listening. I thought you said something about a new "handle" so I thought it meant id. Maybe it meant something else or I was going crazy or something. lol
No Daisy, if you recall that back when the forum started, he was Frankus Blackus and he changed it to Frnk Blck later on. That was the comment, not that he had a new one now. And i said that, not Dean. Just FYI...
cool podcast - not least because I got a name check and a cd.. whoo!
Juvenile moment aside, I just love 'I will run', so to hear the original acoustic version was priceless. Said it before, say it again, 'Frank, do an accoustic album! - or just throw all these demos on a low price CD or do another iTunes special download or sumthin''
Oh, and get back on UK itunes as well... oh, just checked, and you are... good job!
I recently started listening to your podcast and I enjoy it a lot. I saw the Frank a few weeks back here in Austin and he sounded pretty good. One of my favorite CD's I've heard from Frank is his double album Frank Black Francis. I don't care much for the alternate versions of the Pixies songs but I love the CD where he does all the solo accoustic stuff before he actually recorded the first demo (Purple Tape) with the Pixies. I wish he would come out with an album that's just him and his guitar doing some of the best songs in his solo career or where he's with the catholics.
A solo acoustic album of "greatest hits" would be a dream. But for now, there are always bootlegs. Check out the Send Me Some Frank threads on this forum, jnaus. Lotsa good shows from this year.
This might be old news--so I apologize in advance if so--but was listening to the podcast with the FB interview where he talks about how he writes lyrics. He mentioned how he came up with rhyming patterns which were used in White Noise Maker, and Big Red, where the last 2 syllablesrhyme but the sylllables are flipped (ie: Have a mule they CALL SAL, bulldozing the CANAL WALLS)
Well I just realized he used a similar (but different) rhyming pattern in some Pixies songs. In this one the 1st line and the last line of a verse rhyme and the sandwiched middle 2 rhyme differently.
Caribou:
I live CEMENT I hate this street Give dirt to me I bite LAMENT This human form Where I was born I now REPENT
Then theres Planet of sound:
One fine day in my ODD PAST I picked me up a transmission I turned the fission ignition Went looking for the BROADCASTER
And when i first touched SOME GROUND They simply told me to leave Was kind of hard to believe 'Cause there was no ONE AROUND
Its interesting because when you hear the songs, you dont realize the lines rhyme--seems random till you see it.
I suppose I never really looked at the rhyme scheme of that, looks like an ABBA style. Or BAAB to not get confused with the band. I wouldn't say similar, but it is interesting.
"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."
Thanks again, Brian and Dean, especially for the rest of the FB interview. I love this quote from The Man: "A great rock and roll song is just a hunk of bread."
spooky podcast! but where the hell was asterid?!? you're way to modest dean! his kingly cave has psychodelic scary halloween trip written all over it! i guess everyone will just have to go download it.
"I joined the Cult of Frank/ cause I'm a real go-getter!"
Ah, that brings fond memories of the "Stupidest person on Earth" poll and the comments that went along... "It was the best of times, it was Asterid's His Kingly Cave".
I can't say I hated the Elvis vocals. They were fun. At the risk of being banned, I'd say the worst part was the keyboard solo.
Personally I've always felt that the drumming was the best part. I mean, drums are drums, right? Not on this one. They are like God preaching to Buddah and Ganesh.
