Could be a reason. I thought of a couple more: Low, GY!BE, Sigur Ros. I really wanted to like Lift Yr Skinny Fists when it got released, but all my efforts were in vain. Low, I can't say I tried hard, but I listened to a couple of songs by them and it really didn't grab my attention. Sorry Simon & benji.

You're killing me Denis, seriously.
Arctic Monkeys though: that album is tedious, but, look at how good it apparently is! http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/tm_objectid=16626499&method=full&siteid=94762&headline=arctic-monkeys-album--fifth-best-ever--name_page.html

Wow, yet again whatever band NME are currently championing are the best band ever, the libertines again anyone? Its getting to the point where if i see a band i like on their cover, i just cant listen anymore (except for the pixies, when they got on, obviously). |

that's silly.. so if you don't like a band and they're on NME then you don't like them, but if you like a band and they're on NME, you still like them.
lolz.

heh, its not quite that bad, i was just trying to say that i just cant be dealing with all the hype around them, that innevitably ends up destroying the band, there are a lot of bands i like, but there a few that of you hold up to the spotlight too long you see all the flaws, like Franz ferdinand, great band but not THAT great, NME doesnt let bands develop, they just pounce, put them on a pedestal too early then let them fall |

It's a bad association thing as well. Like when you have a song that reminds you of a bad time, an nme hyped band leaves a bad taste in my mouth,
I saw hard-fi on jools holland best of british and the guy didn't even know how to hold a microphone properly. He kept jerking it away from his mouth making him inaudible because (one must assume) it looks cool. Too much too fast.
NME are an especially bad example of musical press because it's not really about the music it's about setting a scene. When I was 15 and in love with Thom Yorke nme was a perfectly acceptable reading material. As a grown up who wants to know a bit about actual music rather than Band X's lead singers beer of choice, it's bollocks. You know last year they even had the "New Indie hair" feature with a cut out to take ot the hairdresser, it's crap. And I blame it for scenesters. Irritating bastards. |

I agree, magnet is another horrible one. of course I've never found a print music magazine that doesn't cater to kids. |

Holiday Son reminded me... add Bob Dylan to my list. I've tried but I just can't figure out what the fuss is about. Bruce Springsteen, too. |

David Bowie (I swear I tried hard) Tracy Chapman (sometimes I think I should logically like at least some of her songs but... I can't. I can't. I CAN'T.) Cocteau Twins The Cure Genesis New Order Radiohead Roxy Music The Stranglers without Hugh Cornwell (although I do like most of their last album)
+ Francis Cabrel (I hope my gf will never read this).
[edit] Oh yes, and Springsteen. And Pink Floyd. How could I forget these two.
[2nd edit] U2! U2! U2!
Some time ago I'd probably have added PJ Harvey, but I've started to change my mind about her.

Pink Floyd...
have listened for decades, am familiar with entire catalog, even own some albums...just can't fully get it. My favorite aspect of them is they are good to go to sleep to. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is, however, brilliant.

Mars Volta. Music was excellent but couldn´t get past that Robert Planty voice, too shrill for me.

Mars Volta definitely. I feel real bad about that one too because I got a friend who kept swearing how much I was going to love them and when I finally did hear them and was just kind of going "Eh, Okaaay" he seemed a bit crestfallen. Sounded a bit generic, plus I think I had heard things from other people so maybe my expectations were too high. It's funny I think sometimes we get into things a lot more that we heard by accident, whereas if we were to hear the same thing after listening to a bunch of hype about it we may not like it as much or at all. |

At The Drive In/Mars Volta (though MV are excellent live). The Murder City Devils. The Feelings Maybe The Smiths as well, but my freinds are really trying hard to get me into them, and it might be working.

Try Dead Low Tide. MCD kind of morphed into that band. I saw them with the Melvins and they blew me away. Unfortunately they broke up too and now the drummer is in Big Business which is him and just a bassist. Good stuff! They are actually joining up with the Melvins. Two drummers (and Dale Crover is one of'em!) with the bass player taking up the slack of the sorrowfully departed Kevin Rutmanis. |

Big Business rock my world. Cannot wait to now see the Melvins live. 2 drummers both awesome. I need to lie down now just having thought about what that might be like.
