Name some that you've made every attempt at liking but they just seem to let you down over and over again.

I'd have to say the Beatles are my main one, I've even gone so far as to buy four or five of their records but I can't make it through any of'em.

Hüsker Dü. I bought Warehouse and Candy Apple Gray, I just can't see what the fuss is about.

Hüsker Dü again. Many times I've tried. I can see why others like them I suppose; I've never clicked to them myself, though.

REM are a singles band. The albums I've heard are all average, with Automatic for the People coming close to 'quite good'. All said, I own Fables of the Reconstruction, Green, Document, Monster and Automatic for the People. Can't imagine why.

Sufjan Stevens maybe? It's OK, I guess.

There's another that'll bug me til I remember it. I'll be back.

mmmm..... honestly some times it's just the later recordings of bands I actually like.

I guess I tried getting into Phish. I just thought The Dead were so much better and cooler.

I agree daynara, but that's another thread ("Bands that your into that it's insane that other's aren't").

It's not a band and it's not rock, but I've never been able to "get into" Charlie Parker.

Radiohead. When I like a song, I really like it, but their albums as a whole don't do it for me.

Yep, I think their second record is really great but everything after just seems to bore me.

For me: They Might Be Giants, GBV (I do like some of their stuff but on the whole, too hit and miss - sorry Mike), the whole Kirsten Hersch experience to name a few - though I saw her solo live once and liked it a LOT.

I have a friend who just can't get into Radiohead either...

I second REM and The Velvet Underground (and Bird, too). I'd mention Radiohead but I can't say I've really tried that hard (same with GBV actually). I'm having a tough time trying to get into Beck too (sorry Yanno). Mission of Burma. The whole Brian Wilson thing. Erase Errata - heard people raving about them, got 2 albums, still goes right over my head. Electrelane.

Actually, now that I think about it I do like Amnesiac quite a bit. I'll have to somewhat rescind on Radiohead being in this category

Please note the dissent here jedi, we've had a FFW mention and a Kirsten Hersch [sic] mention. Talking of insane...

Yeah, well, my sig is enough for people to guess what my opinion is, and I really don't want to go into a "you don't like my fave band, you must be out of your mind" type argument...

Let's just say I'm glad I voted Dean as stupidest person in the world, and leave it at that.

Let's see...
- Velvet Underground: haven't tried really hard though.
- Fantomas, Mr Bungle and everything Patton related, despite Nic's numerous attempts in the CD swaps.
- New Order. Bought the singles compilation recently and I still don't get it. I like Electronic though.
- Buzzcocks. This is probably the one that bugs me the most. I listened to Love Bites a hundred times and it still gets on my nerves. Ever Fallen In Love is awesome though, but that's it.
- The whole "electronica"/bleep/whatever scene. Autechre and all that crap. How come I'm such a big techno fan and I hate electronica that much? It escapes me.

Jean-Louis Murat: asshole
Daft Punk: pretentious jerks
Magma: unbearable
Dire Straits: bad blues
Incubus: false bad boys
Limp Bizkit: false bad boys playing golf and making bad music
Rage Against The Machine: don't like their sound and the way the singer... sings?
Pearl Jam: do I have to say why?
Bloc Party: plagiarists
The Editors: plagiarists too
Laurent Garnier: bad electro
Manu Chao: bad politician playing bad music

Have you really tried to get into all these bands? And I just can't let this pass:

Laurent Garnier: bad electro

You clearly haven't heard his records. 12 years+ of producing with constant quality (although I don't like his latest album as much), and one of the few who have never lost their integrity.

Charlie Parker makes me grin ear to ear.
And Denis, you´re obviously not listening to Fantomas loud enough.

Could be a reason.
I thought of a couple more: Low, GY!BE, Sigur Ros. I really wanted to like Lift Yr Skinny Fists when it got released, but all my efforts were in vain. Low, I can't say I tried hard, but I listened to a couple of songs by them and it really didn't grab my attention. Sorry Simon & benji.

You're killing me Denis, seriously.

Arctic Monkeys though: that album is tedious, but, look at how good it apparently is!

I second whoever said new order, just can't do it.

I'd mention a bunch of "indie" bands like the killers and the kaiser chiefs and the arctic monkeys and the zutons but honestly, didn't even try.
