Man, Dyperman. I wish I was friends with Charles. Thanks for the sweet insight on the new record too. I like all of Charles' work. I'm not a lemming, just thankful.

Wasn't FB playing the cover of Dirty Old Town on the last Catholics tour. It's a few years ago now, but I think I remember them playing it at the Manchester Academy show.

I saw a band play Dirty Old Town last night, but they were a bluegrass group. I didn't even recognise it until I heard the "I kissed my girl by the factory wall...dirty old town" line, which I recognized from this thread. They were quite the good. This forum has so many perks. I eagerly await both more updates and the release of the new album.

Was it better than the Pogues version? I'll 'fess up, I haven't heard the MacColl original.

It's just Shanes' voice on the original, unless there's a version I haven't heard yet. |

Well it's by Ewan MacColl, I think, so I guess he did the original? Quite possibly I'm making that up.

I believe Ewan MacColl (Kirsty's dad) wrote it. The Dubliners do a version of it, too.
BTW, on a frivolous note, if Paul McCartney does a new album, we can start a topic called New album is Here There And Everywhere!!!! Or perhaps not.

I think everyone here would agree I should get an advanced copy of Frank's new album so I can get a jumpstart on the guitar tabs...

Yeah, I heard that there were like 4 or 5 new songs that were recently recorded at a studio in an LA suburb.... cant wait to hear the results of that one!

Think Wrecking Crew. Not exactly, but a permutation thereof.

I would totally go beserk if the production is a bit like Wilson or Spector. Wrecking Crew, aren't they retired?

Just an idea : would it be wrong if someone who has an advance copy upload one song here. Just one song to tease us. It will feed our need for a fix and make good publicity for the album if the feedback is good and obviously it will be (well unless it really is honeycomb 2...) |

Ha, now that's funny!
Hey, go get some strange, I'd recommend LUCERO "Nobody's Darlings"
Free listen and look at http://www.luceromusic.com/av.cfm
These are full songs, 1-5, #1 ought to give you some relief, hell they'll all get your rocks off!

that's the best idea i heard all day!! i, unfortunately, do not have said songs so i cannot help. maybe someone can send it to "sendmesomefrank.com" at http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14737 and label it "big red" or something. make up a new username and it will be our little secret. no one will ever know. of course, everyone who takes a sneak peak will be purchasing the new album and we will keep it off soulseek and the like....

Nope, anyone so doing will be permanently banned without exception.
Sorry, but the reason I can allow that thread to exist is because it's non-commercial material.
But... to stave off the complaints, don't worry... we have something cooking for you right now that, with Brian's help (and some approval from above - i.e. Ken and/or FB), will be fresh off the grill by the end of next week.

Yes, I'm famous for it which is why I this time have said nothing up until this point and wouldn't have except that I can tell the mood's getting frantic. In this case, it'll get done, that I'm sure of... just not sure about approved.
