As told by Kyle Anderson - Spin Jan.'06

Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced
Leon Russell - Leon Russell
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
Captain Beefheart - The Spotlight Kid
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette
Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man

Nothing too surprising there, IMHO...
The Man also has a "celebrity" playlist currently posted at the itunes music store... Do you think it's just holiday spirit or is there a Burl Ives cover in the works???

I've read that when he went to Porto Rico, he had only two records, one from Iggy Pop and the other one from Talking Heads.

Leon Russell is a legendary rocker from the 60's-70's. A piano player from Oklahoma,
at 14 years old he wasplaying in a bar band that backed Jerry Lee Lewis, who liked them
so much he took 'em out on tour. Became a bigtime session pianist, playing for Phil Spector,
the Beach Boys, and countless other artists in the mid sixties. First big break was as bandleader for Joe Cocker
on the Maddogs and Englishmen tour. Leon wrote "delta Lady". Became solo artist and one of the world's top concert draws at start of the 70's. Played guitar bass and piano at george Harrison's concert for Bangladesh.
Played French horn intro for his own "This Masquerade." A phenomenal musician with a wierd drawling singing style,
at the height of his popularity released an all country album as Hank Wilson. His style is a real rocking, gospel groove with tons of rough edges. He still tours and records and in fact will be near my town in a month with a rock band.
He's toured with a bluegrass band before as well as solo. One of his early drummers was (now) actor Gary Busey, then known as Teddy Jack Eddy. Must of made an impression on Leon, as Leon named his first son Teddy Jack.
Oh yeah, I'm a huge Leon fan.
Check out Carney or any of his pre1973 solo albums . 1972's Leon Live is a three LP recording of his live act.
