So, did any of you apply for tickets? Tomorrow at 10am starts the ballot for them.
I ordered tickets for six games. But they recieved orders for six million tickets and have only 300.000 tickets available this round. So chances are pretty slim...
But who nows? I sure keep my fingers crossed. |

i know most of the tickets are wrongly given to corporate sponsors. but i hope you get one ticket, at least, kella.
i won't be applying, though. i'm more than happy watching us win the thing in the comfort of my own home and country.

CRAP. I forgot to apply. I thought you could apply until tomorrow. There will be a France-Mexico friendly match in May though, so I'll see both teams for cheap. Better than nothing.

There is no point in me applying for any England games 'cos all the hotels are booked up.
I am tempted to go for Brazil tickets but I wouldn't be sure if I should be watching the football or the female contingent of the crowd.

mmmmm Brazilians...
I can't help but wonder if the recent Sven debacle will inspire England to greatness or just condemn them to abject failure. I suspect the latter. 2nd round defeat.

I agree Llama, second round or glorious defeat at the hands of a really good team in the quarters, like last time around. I don't know, England tend to step up the level of drama in tournaments; Portugal in Euro '04 was nail-biting stuff.
Winning, out of the question, hehe...

And tickets for one game I got!!! How Cool is that?
(Ok, it would have been cooler to get tickets for the other games I applied for, too, but hey! Better than no tickets at all, like the last time I applied.)
Game #56 it is. In Hannover. Last match in the round of 16.
It's winner of group H (Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia) against the second of group G (France, Switzerland, South Korea, Togo). Looks like Spain : Switzerland. Maybe not the most fascinating groups of the tournament (at least in my opinion).
But!
It's a world cup game!
Live in the stadium!!
In the knock out phase!!!
Hurray!!!
So, thanks for the good wishes fbc.
And for everyone, who missed to participate this round (like Denis): the fourth sales period is scheduled to start on 15 February. And its on a first come, first served basis this time. Infos will be posted here: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/index.html |

From the FIFA homepage: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/index.html
The fourth sales phase for 2006 FIFA World Cup™ match tickets opens on 15 February 2006 at midday (CET). "First come, first served" applies to sales during this period, i.e. applications will be processed in the order they are received. Ticket supplies will be frequently updated as new tickets become available through to the end of the phase on 15 April 2006. Tickets will become available as stadium seating plans are finalised, and from tickets offered for resale after being returned for non-payment or other reasons. For this reason, more tickets may be available later in the phase than at the beginning.
So, "applications will be processed in the order they are received", but when? Immediately, or after this round is closed in april. And can you apply more than one time during this period?
Ah well, I guess I will find out on wednesday... |

Rooney and Owen to miss World Cup?
If this is true I think it's fair to say that England have no chance. Actually, we probably have no chance anyway.

We had a great chance. So good that I said to my flat mate back in 2000, that we would win the 2006 World Cup. That was then, this is now. Rooney is more than our Ronaldinho. It's all over, unless he heals very quickly.

I always tell myself before a big competition that we have no chance anyway. That way I'm never too disapointed when we inevitably f**k it up/are cheated out of a win/lose on penalties.

Oh well, looks like Fatlad is fucked and things aren't looking to good for Mickey 'personality' Owen either. Looks like we're pinning our hopes on Peter Crouch, a man so freakishly out of proportion he would have been thrown in a circus had he been born 150 years previous. Face it fellas, we're fucked.

Sven has just announced the provisional England Squad......
Robinson James Green
G. Neville Ferdinand Terry Cole Campbell Carragher Bridge
Beckham Carrick Gerrard Hargreaves Lampard Jenas Downing J.Cole Lennon
Rooney Owen Crouch Walcott
soooo....no Defoe or Bent, instead he picked an untried 17 year old and Ledley King misses out too. Shaun Wright-Phillips another glaring omission. :D

There's some bizarre choices in there, tis true. Walcott? The kid's great and all, but really? No Defoe/Wright Phillips? He's still insisting on Owen HArgreaves?
I'm kind of glad Downing is in there though, he could make a good impression.

Rooney is in, he can be replaced up till the 10th June I think. Also missing is Darren Bent who everyone thought would go. In terms of strikers at the moment, England have two injured, one untried kid and Peter Crouch :/

what the fuck are James, Bridge, Hargreaves, Downing doing in the squad. Who keeps insisting that James is a good keeper (made another howler yesterday)? The rest are mediocre. Sven seems to just read the newspapers and then pick a squad. But then again, I hope England do shite (I only feel sorry for Rooney, who would be carrying most of the team, like he's been carrying united most of the season) |

I guess Downing is in there to provide geniuine left wing cover in the event of Joe Cole getting injured or being played off Crouch up front.
Who would you pick instead of James and Bridge?
Hargeaves....dunno....maybe he's playing well for Bayern?

To be fair, when all are fit england have a world class 11. But as we see now, there is only 11. The rest are poor. I guess he has to pick someone. Also, I think shaun-wright philips should get a spot. I don't believe in the idea that left sided players must stick on the left side and that right sided players can't play there. Chelsea have played players out of position (so called) all season.
Possibly there might be a case for left back (since you have to turn away from goal to clear). |

I think Sven must be trying to screw us out of winning the World Cup before he leaves! It's the only explanation for his awful squad selection!

Rooney would make a one man team of Brazil.
As for the squad, well to echo what I said in the other thread.
Very surprised that both Defoe and Bent didn't make it into the squad. I mean, for a long time they both would have expected only one of them to get in, then when Rooney got injured they probably both thought they would, and now neither of them has. They must be wondering what they have got to do, Bent especially.
Despite that, I am pleased with what he has done here. This is a sign of Eriksson actually earning his £5m a year. It's a sign that he is willing to take gambles, which is not something he was demonstrated in the past. Plus, I always like to see youth given a chance, and I really rate these two youngsters, Lennon and Walcott. They are both very tricky and have pace in abundance. The World Cup has a history of making a name of an unknown kid.
Now as for the keepers, well who else do we take? We are not strong in that area so there is not a lot he can do.
Hargreaves is still a mystery but I suspect it's the fact that he's a Jack of all trades, master of none that has actually got him in again.
Sorry Stu but I don't think any of the Wigan squad have enough potential to warrant taking a gamble on (unlike Lennon and Walcott).
Downing is indeed an average footballer and is very one footed but he is such a good deliverer of a ball that he does have his uses. Personally I think Richardson is the better all round player, but then I would say that being a red. Richardson does have the best international goalscoring record in the squad though (possibly ever?).
Seeing as Rooney probably won't make it and Owen probably will, here's who I would play:
Robinson Neville A Cole Terry Ferdinand Beckham (though if didn't pull his socks up, Lennon would be in) Carrick Gerrard Lampard J Cole Owen
I'd play Carrick in front of the back 4, with Gerrard and Lampard bombing on to support Owen, with Cole on the left, in front of the other one.
IF that team stays fit and plays as it can do, it has the POTENTIAL to win the World Cup without Rooney. And at the end of the day, all any team has right now is the potential to win it, Brazil included.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place
