I'd say C just shades it over your group, and Group H possibly the weakest, although Tunisia are the African Cup holders.
Looking at it, there don't seem to be any groups that are excessively weak or strong, but you could probably pick the top two from each group, with a couple of exceptions.

Okay, I will:
A - Germany, Ecuador
B - Sweden, England (just to watch them get thumped in the quarters and cry about refs or something for the next four years)
C - Holland, Argentina
D - Mexico, Portugal
E - Czech Republic, Italy
F - Brazil, Australia
G - France, Switzerland
H - Spain, Tunisia
Honestly, I question some of these, but it's the best I could do in 74 seconds.

I was just looking at some world rankings, and in Group E, Italy are the third ranked team. Czech Republic are 2nd and USA are 8th, with Italy 12th.

As for England, they're victims of their own hype. I feel sorry for Sven because he has done an amazing job for England. He lost one qualifying game and that isn't acceptable?! Crazy! I don't think it will come down to dodgy refereeing decisions, penalties, formation, Sven or any of those excuses. I think that in the past it has never dawned on the media that maybe England just weren't good enough, that they didnt have that last pieces of skill or inspiration that seperated them from the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Italy and France of recent times. In saying that though, this England team is the best in my lifetime I've seen. However I still feel they are a couple of truly inspirational players short of being on the same level as Brazil or Argentina. As for next manager, whoever comes in will have a hard time replacing Sven, I find it very hypocritical that so many people are against him even though he has a proven record and has won the Serie A with Lazio in his past.
England have lots of inspirational players. All moulded into one footballer. Wayne Rooney ; )
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place
Trouble is rooney is what, just 20? Dont get me wrong I rate Ronney, but He's only one indivual. Lampard, A cole, Gerrard, Owen sure, but if one of thrm underperforms whos in??? Argentina, Riquelme underperforms Aimar is in, or Messi or Tevez or Saviola. Or Aguero (yeah best new young player), Im not putting England down but they rely on physical strength than skill. In defence Heinze, Ayala, Samuel, Milito, Burdisso, Zanetti, Coloccini, Gonzalo...midfeild Mascherano, Cambiasso, Veron (if ever picked), Bernardi, Maxi, Lucho Gonzales, Duscher...Atttack, Crespo, Cruz, Figueroa, Klimowicz (shite i know but he scores goals!) I see no way past Argentina,so much strength and depth!!!! |

Bad luck for Holland again.

I'd have said D or E were the groups of death, they look fairly tricky.
I'm fairly pleased with England's draw though. I can't do England predictions, we don't come under conventional logic, but I'll guess a 1-1 draw with Sweden if nothing else.
Anybody know what food is like in Paraguay? Or what they drink? One of my friends has had the bright idea to do theme evenings around the football, i.e. we eat and drink stuff from the country we're playing. Sweden we can probably manage, Trinidad & Tobago, excellent stuff, Paraguay no idea.

I'm looking forward to watching Kevin Muscatt try and kick lumps out of Brazil. I used to watch him play for Wolves and he's officially the dirtiest player i've ever seen.
Steveio, do you have any inside info on the Argies you could pass onto Sven? |

Cool! Germany is in a pretty fair group. But I would say it's Germany (of course ) and Poland (instead of Equador) to proceed.
An Denis, how on earth are you planning to get tickets for Mexico-Portugal (or any other game, for that matter). You make that sound like there's a fair chance of getting them. |

I suppose Cheeseman meant group C. Mexico and Portugal will qualify easily I think. The downside is that they'll meet the winners of group C in 1/8ths.
kelladwella: you're right, I don't see how I could get tickets. Perhaps I should try Mexico-Angola, nobody will want to see this one...

To be fair, I rarely know what I'm talking about. That said: Mexico - very decent team; Portugal - Euro finalists, some great players; Iran - ranked 19th in the world, won't be easy to beat; Angola, fair enough, I know nothing either.
I guess you could go through all the groups like that though.

Mexico sucks my friends, they only qualify to the world cup because they play only with Concacaf teams(El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Canada...pffff), they´re overrated, their national competition is so bad that a lot of chilean players play there...and make goals...
I´ll go for Brazil.

I hope you never meet my wife. She'd rip your guts out... Seriously, I agree about the Concacaf being a bit of a joke, but still. Borgetti is the world's top scorer of the preliminary matches, and in the last 5 years Mexico has won 4 times and drawn twice against Brazil, for only 1 defeat. By they way, I've read discussions are under way for a friendly France-Mexico match next May in Paris. Can't wait...

yeah, you're right but those match were friendly matches, in that games the brazilian playeres were thinking about dance samba and drink cahipiriñas. Think at the official competitions...like tha last Copa America in Perú: 1. Brazil, 2. Argentina, 3. Uruguay, 4. Colombia.....where is Mexico???.
For me Mexico it's the Spain of Europe, they have a lot of money in their national competition and they raise their level with foreign players, but their national team isn't so good as their national competition.

I think Denis refers to the Confederations Cup that took place in Germany this summer. Mexico beat Brazil 1-0. Borgetti scored. That "Cup" still is a joke, but was invented by the FIFA to collect money. |

I´ve been in Argentina for a couple of months now and there´s some awesome football being played here now. They´ll win. Sweden have a brilliant team - they´ll play good, be underestimated and end up in the semi-finals again with Germany and Brazil. England have no chance (and no class may i add:). |
