I have always been excellent at football so I have never had to cheat. Perhaps that's why I feel like this ; )

Take you anyday young fella, I play midfield for our University A's.

Right Homer, since you do play footy. Often you get a tap or kick on the ankles which you know the ref will not blow for, unless you give a shout or end up fallin' .

In the league I play, u pretty much have to go to ground to get the ref's to pay attention. If your still standing obviously the challenge was'nt too bad, in many of their opinion. I know these would not be world class ref's. But I can see where it comes from.

Basically, I am adament it WAS a foul on Henry after seening it again. He would not have gotten that foul if he stayed on his feet. The holding the face thing is another issue that I agree with all here about and have stated it in the other post. He was wrong there.

All I'm saying is that the standard of refereeing is poor and leads playing to trying to influence the referee to get often "just" decisions in their favour.

Oh it was definitely a foul, but I think he would have given it (the ref). It was so blatant, and I am pretty sure ref is blowing before Henry hits the deck and starts holding his face.

As I said, I wouldn't give reds for all divers, just those that actually try to get someone sent off for it. There's a difference I think between exaggerating your fall, and holding your face when you have been hit in the chest. I stand by believing that should see red.

It was stupid and ridicule, but it deserved a yellow one, not a red one IMO. I mean, if you would give him a red one for that, then a half of the players would also be given a red one during the matches. Almost every players do that kind of thing.

But this is as easy thing to do using video footage after if FIFA or the FA had balls. ANY player diving or doing a Rivaldo/Henry should be banned for a match or 2. It's hard for the ref to make a decision there and then.

slightly off topic, I thought the Brazil Ghana match was played in a very good spirit, even when players did'nt agree with the ref. Proper professionals there.

I agree you have to stamp it out though. I admire Rooney for his love of the game and he never looks for free's etc. He tries his best to stay upright even if he's in the box.

Hence the need to stamp it out surely then?

But I actually think you are wrong. Not many players do what Henry did. Certainly not a high percentage go that far.

Come on now, the replays clearly show Henry was taking strands of Puyol's hair off of his face....

For those who play football, what positions do you play?

Im a tough tackling centre half/right back. No pace and crap with the ball at my feet, but you aint getting past me.
I'm like a brick wall. Something of a poor mans Jamie Carragher.

I play mainly central midfield, but due to a lack of left footed players in some teams I play left midfield. I used to play up front 'cos I have a knack of being in the right place at the right time, but now I prefer to come from deep to get goals as I like to have more influence on the game (plus my finishing is crap when I have too much time to think about it). Central midfield is the pure footballer's position.

That was like the start of my footballing CV. I'm like a poor man's Zidane (bald like him too), mixed with Giggs and Henry (without holding my face).

I'd say my passing is now my strongest point, followed by my dribbling and my overall footballing brain.

Haha, I knew you would say that. You'd better be great at timing them mate or you'd be off.

To be fair your best bet bet would be to try and wind me up, I get sidetracked from the game. I've developed a short temper over the years, probably since playing in some very tough leagues as a young lad. Nothing scares me now on the pitch so I think I can take anyone on. Not a good idea really, best to ignore them as they say, but short fuse and all that.

My god I am more like Zidane than I thought.

I don't feel like I have a natural position, I'm equally as comfortable anywhere on the pitch (except goalkeeper!).

I usually play centre half or left back (even though I'm right footed) since nobody else wants to. Most people I know love to play as a striker and score but for me it's more satisfying to make last ditch tackles etc. (plus I always seem to score from corners anyway).

My timing is nothing short of excellent. If im honest, its the only thing Im any good at, well timed challenges, not diving in but winning the ball cleanly every time. Then when I have the ball at my feet, I dont know what to do with it.

Ive played in some shitty leagues myself around Blackpool. This one team from Fleetwood used to get their mates to circle the pitch on mopeds with flick knives. If you had the audacity to tackle any of them, they'd threaten to cut you and you would usually wind up getting nutted at least once. I remember we played them once and their keeper was playing in Rockports.
You're from Salford right? They must have some real mean ass leagues in Salford.

If things aren't going well against Portugal maybe England should use the shotgun or flick knife tactics.

Sorry, not updated the table yet, but here's the fixtures for the Q-final with bonus questions....

Germany v Argentina, 16:00 How many sendings off in this game?
Italy v Ukraine, 20:00 How many players will miss a penalty in this game (including ET/pens)
Saturday, 01 July 2006
Brazil v France, 20:00 What percentage of possession will France have in this game?
England v Portugal, 16:00 What minute will Theo Walcott come on as a substitute?
(no points if he doesn't come on)
