That was what I would refer to as 'joke' refereeing.

the referee was terrible. I really think he would have given a last minute penalty to Paraguay had an England player sneezed in the box.
Pain is temporary, quitting is forever.

Well from what I gather it seems only the english noticed something wrong about the referee (I haven't seen the game myself). Argentina-Ivory Coast was a great match.

I've just realised that im not gonna be around this board very often for the next month or so. I haven't got time to be pissing around on the internet when there's three games a day on! Fuck me. Im gonna be out of my lid every single day for the next month soaking up all the football and sun I can.
My prediction: Germany will win it. If im right, someone has to buy me a cake.
That ball is a piece of crap, they might as well kick a boomerang around.
Anyway, see you guys in a month or so! Enjoy the world cup!

My only prediction is that England goes out in the extra time of the quarter final due to a terrible injustice of some kind. |

Damn sorry to see Ivory Coast go down to Argentina.
I'd have loved to see Holland and Ivory Coast go through from this group.

I really thought they might pull it off at the last. I've never been a vociferous fan of Didier Drogba, but I was really, really impressed last night. Yaya Toure and Keita looked good as well.
The problem is, Argentina looked so comfortable against a team that many other big names would have struggled against. I think they really staked their claim as major contenders, even if they are girly divers. They can get the goals - they could have been three up by half time, which would have been an injustice to CIV in terms of possession and play, but a reflection of the scoring abilities in the Argentina team.

True. I saw the game and the ref didn't strike me as particularly bad, either. As for the english team... how can I put this... they won it the good old german way. Not much fun for the eye, slow game, lots of incomplet passes, didn't even score a goal, but went away with three points. THAT'S championchip material! |

im sorry but peter crouch always has his hands on peoples backs. Most of them frees were correct. He has a tendency to use his hands and arms (and he does'nt need to, but yet he does). Most of the decisions with regard to crouch were correct. He does it for liverpool too and i'd admit that although i am a liverpool supporter. Anyways, england were bad. Best 2 teams so far have been Argentina and Ivory Coast. Argentina looked class in spells. England don't have a prayer unless they start playing football (whhich is not what they want to do). Cole and Gerrard (prob becks too) want to play football. The rest are just too afraid to make mistakes. |

My all-Portuguese neighbourhood's going bananas right now over the single-goal win over Angola. Might not be the best time to leave the house right now.
P.S. To Denis: I passed by your old address and even the dep earlier today but didn't have my camera, so I'll send you those photos some other time.

Poor Australia. No Pixies tour, and now one nil down to Japan. Could be worse. They could have Mark Schwarzer in goal.

Ok, a grand total of 6 people entered the predictions game, and midway through the first round of games, the table looks like this:
Kelladwella 12
Pixiestu 10
Toeknee 9
Cheeseman 6
Llamadance 5
Vilainde 4
Pixiestu was the only person to get the bonus points in Group One, and nobody predicted the Sweden draw.
Can anybody find the rules I posted? I can't see them.

With all due respect to our Japanese friends.. 3-1 was an amazing result, for Australia.
0-1 down with five mins to go was a horrible feeling, now on such a high. Reality check v Brasil on Thursday I imagine, we'll see...

I have Mexico and Australia in a draft. So far, very pleasantly surprised, though I don't think anybody is holding out hope on them beating Brazil. Still, my fingers are crossed.
