What's a good one to start with?

DIrectors Cut - cover versions of movie scores/theme songs and probably their most accesible. It's not easy stuff to get into but once you do it is very very much worth it.
I've said it before but driving along a deserted road at night listening to that is far too much fun.

I don't drive but I'll give it a go (the album, not driving at night) There be one with a Japanese comic kind of look too, I'm interested in strictly by the cover.

Hey I don't drive either still works on a passenger level.
The Japanese looking cover is Suspended Animation. Their "childrens" album with every song dedicated to a day in April .which they recorded at the same time as their dark album - Delirium Cordia. Some people find it very aggressive and it took me longer to get into than their others and in my mind, despite me loving it, is not as good as Directors Cut (but having said that Directors is exceptional in my mind).

Yeah, definitely Directors Cut. The Twin Peaks song is worth the price of the disc alone. |

Do you mean "Fantomas Amenaza Al Mundo"? That's funny, I bought it today.

Just got some stuff from Directers Cuts off LimeWire. I have to buy that album, I especially like that he covered the Twin Peaks theme tune.

That's what you think. Once you've plundered the Mr Bungle catalogue there are his other little projects to hunt down. The man is a workaholic.

Tomahawk did one album, which (and this may surprise you) is worthy of worship - in my mind not in the Fantomas league, but it stands up on it's own pretty damn well. Some Patton fans prefer the Tomahawk stuff because it features conventional lyrics and Mike Patton does have a beautiful voice when he sings which is something you sometimes forget.

There are two Tomahawk records. They're both really good in my opinion, Duane Denison is an amazing guitarist.
Check out Pattons' record he did with Eyving Kang too, very nice! |

I love the Fantomas and the Tomahawk (Fucking awesome LIVE!!!).
But in my personal opinion there is no better Mike Patton than Lovage, Peeping Tom, Mr Bungle, and Eyvind Kang!
Check it out!!! |

oyez oyez!
don't know if this has been posted before, but since I know there are some fellows here that will be interested:
"Feb. 9, 2006 Well blow me down! This one caught us off guard. The FantômasMelvins Big Band has decided to do a little mini tour in part of Europe in April! No new record, no real reason, just doing it because some promoters offered em a bunch of cash to dust it off. Look for the dates in the calendar section. This is not part of any bigger tour. No plans to tour other parts of the world and not sure if any dates will be added to this European run. It is very rare when the Big Band is able to get all the musicians available at the same time. And to answer your question, the reasons these cities were chosen is because this is where the offers came from. Don't blame us if they are not going to your city or country. These musicians do this for a living so they go where they are offered good money. Private jets and full body massages are expensive, you know?"
FantômasMelvins Big Band Date Location Venue Apr. 19, 2006 Ljubljana, Slovenia Cvetlicarna Mediapark Apr. 21, 2006 Krems, Austria Donaufestival Apr. 23, 2006 Brussels, Belgium Ancienne Belgique Apr. 24, 2006 Munich, Germany Backstage Apr. 25, 2006 Fribourg, Switzerland Frison Apr. 26, 2006 Milan, Italy Rolling Stone Apr. 27, 2006 Rome, Italy tba it's a shame they're not coming in France... I'm SO disappointed. (second bad news of the day)

I'm slightly devastated that the UK isn't included in this tour, but when they put it down to the price of private jets and masseuses, how can I possibly hold it against them. If anything it makes me love them even more.

Fantomas is a band I need to get into. Mr Bungle and Faith No More are my equal favourite band with the Pixies and Pearl Jam. I have a suspended animation poster without even having listened to a Fantomas song. But if its got Mike Patton in it it must be awesome as he's the greatest singer ever
Also I read that when Mike Patton hosted Rage (Australian music video show) he picked a Pixies song, Breeders song and Frank Black song http://www.fnm.com/tv/Rage95.html I wish i'd seen that episode so I could see what he said about them -- Only fools have signatures |
