Anyone out there read this? I just finished it last night and while I was impressed I was also disappointed. First of all, he (David Mitchell) is clearly a master of many tongues. And a genius. BUT, it seems like he went to great lengths to link these stories together when in my mind not only did it not pay off, but there was little reason other than distinguishing from a collection of short stories to do so. I'm not talking so much about half-torn manuscripts or half-watched movies, but about the whole idea of these characters being linked whether through reincarnation or spirit or some other mystical connection.
I found it a difficult book to stay focused on but an interesting literary experiment and worth the read if you are interested in such things but otherwise, not sure I could recommend it.
Thoughts? Has anyone read other books of his?

This is one of those books I see everyone read and I'm told I have to read which of course makes me determined to never read it.

See and I haven't even seen it over here. All the buzz was on that side of the pond. I mention it to book lovers and they have no idea what I'm talking about. But yeah, I think overrated is the word. Still, I felt like there MUST be something deeper than I was able to grasp and am dying to discuss with someone. :)

I'm actually surprised I appear to be the only one who's read it here. I thought for sure Newo would have something to say... :)
