No, I checked by disconnecting and reconnecting, and the mp3 files were still there. I'll have a look again.
[edit] All the mp3 files are still there for Brian's mix

Wow, Brian. I just got your package with the first 8 mixes. I have never seen so many stamps on a package before. I definitely will owe you another batch of cash before this is all said and done. Perfect timing for me as I just finished last day of work for the week so I can take care of my son who is out of school, so we will have a lot of listenin' to do (plus I need to do my mix this week in order to get it mailed to you soon). THANKS for all the burning, printing, packaging, stamp-licking, mailing. 4 songs into Kathryn's mix-good stuff and looking forward to many of the bands I haven't heard before (Nine Black Alps, GBV, Stellastarr*). This IS a little daunting getting so many mixes at one time, but can't wait to get to them all.

i just put so many stamps b/c once i was too lazy to go to the post office, so i figured there is no way that'd cost more than 4 bucks to send. and you owe me no more cash - you're too kind as it is.
enjoy!

Surfer's files seem to have gone, there are only some 82 byte 'shortcuts' or something. I can upload them if you want.

Listening to Sir Rock's mix. Mostly bands I've seen mentioned on this site, but haven't heard.
Good stuff.

Quick review note-Kathryn's mix: I love the transition from "I've owned you for centuries" into "a song from under the floorboards". That magazine song is really nice. Also enjoy the GBV, the Arcade Fire song which I had not heard before. The Laurie Anderson is pretty and was perfect for my mood last night. I like the bookends of the R.E.M. songs, although I have heard E Bow so much off I will probably not listen as much to it. The interpol song may need to grow on me a little. It took me a while to like the "turn on the bright lights" cd I have by them as well (still not totally and completely in love with it). Stellastarr* and Nine Black Alps-pretty catchy. Also need to listen to them some more before I decide how much I like them. Overall a very easy mix to enjoy with enough bands I knew of at least slightly or more in certain cases plus many I had never had a chance to explore.

Review: Breakfast w/ the Fu's
Favs: "Shine A Light" - Wolf Parade, "Ooh La La" - The Faces, "This Town" - Neil Young/Crazy Horse, "Modern Dance" - Pere Ubu Least Favs: "Burnin' Love" - The King Comments: This mix gave me mixed feelings before actually sitting down and listening to it because i was familiar with so many of the songs/artists i was afraid that i would feel that there wasn't all that much new stuff on here. Fuck was i wrong. Some GREAT tracks, and the mix flows quite smoothly from one track to the next. The only reason i dislike the Elvis cut is because to me it was his last ditch shot at a return to the respectability he had 15 years earlier, and it sounds as such. Always nice to hear some FB.netters on mixes too (i originally had Sir Rock's band on my mix, but i didn't know if he'd want that or not, so i figured to leave it off).
This round of mixes has been supremely satisfying.

Surfer Rosa - quick review: Thumbs up: Cramps, Dälek, William Whitmore, I Am Avalanche Thumbs down: Corrosion of Conformity, Into Another, Shots Fired Yet another nice one, although I must say I prefered your previous mix. I wasn't familiar at all with what you chose on the previous one, but it really grabbed my interest, whereas I find the songs on this one generally good but uh... I think the word is "derivative" (Crispy Water used it last time when referring to my mix, I hope I got the idea right). There were a couple of really cool things though. Louis XIV is growing on me, I must listen to the whole album to decide if I like it or not. The Cramps are great as ever. Dälek was my favorite track of the bunch I think, it's a name I had heard about a lot of times without actually knowing his music. Excellent song. WE Whitmore sounds great, never heard of him before. I thought of putting some RL Burnside on my selection but I changed my mind eventually. I Am Avalanche was another highlight, their song reminds me in a way of the Breeders' Do You Love Me Now. Most of the other tracks were good as I said, but ot enough to make me want to go further so I won't go into details.

Review - fumanbru: Faves: Pere Ubu; Wig In A Box; Faces; Smog, Bowie, Elvis, Arcade Fire, Mothersbaugh, Stooges... Least faves: well, nothing really... Wolf Parade perhaps. Fu, you got taste. Like Brian, I knew a bunch of artists from your selection, but it happened to be exclusively artists I loved. So I enjoyed your mix not for its novelty but for the quality of your selection. I've been meaning to buy the Life Aquatic and the Hedwig soundtracks for quite some time but I still don't have them. Funnily, in the previous swap I included Devo's "Gut Feeling" which is also on the Life Aquatic CD. I put some Smog too (In The Pines from his last album), so we share a couple of great things. By the way, you said you didn't know Queen Bitch before; you HAVE to listen to Bowie's Hunky Dory. It's one of his 2 or 3 best records and there's no filler on it. The Arcade Fire was great, I really wonder why I haven't bought the album yet. New Pornographers and Wolf Parade, I know they're regularly mentioned over here but they didn't do much to me. Wolf Parade sounds like a lot of other bands IMO. I can't say they're bad though. I liked Porno For Pyros, one of the bands on your mix I had never heard before. Cold Blooded Old Time is excellent and from one of my fave Smog records. I saw him in concert last June and it was fabulous. Pere Ubu's Modern Dance only increased my desire to get everything by them, I bought my first PU album last month but I love everything I've heard by them. Burning Love is cool, Brian is clearly out of his mind. And Asterid ends the mix in a gr... wait, Dean's not reading? Asterid is worse than getting your nails ripped off one by one. But in a good way...

My mix is uploaded. I hope there still are people interested! It's called Open Ears. The title's pretentious but the music's not. Tracklisting goes like this:
1) Mecca Normal – Ribbon 2) Robert Wyatt – Forest 3) Joe Meek – Entry of the Globbots 4) Innerzone Orchestra – People Make the World Go 'Round 5) Rabih Abou-Khalil – Sunrise in Montreal 6) Transglobal Underground – Ali Mullah 7) M.I.A. – Bingo 8) Detroit Grand Pubahs – Offbeat Killer 9) Velvet Cactus Society – Necrophelia (Die With You) 10) Bryan Ferry – I Thought 11) Björk – An Echo, A Stain 12) Basic Channel – Q Loop 13) Jaco Pastorius – Okonkolé Y Trompa 14) Ali Farka Touré – Dofana
Enjoy.

oh, and on further listening, i have to comment that Fu mislabeled one of the tracks. the version of "Wig in a Box" you put on the mix was the Polyphonic Spree's version from the WIG IN A BOX compilation, not the film version. sorry to be nitpicky!
Denis' review should be up later today

To appease my conscience and Brian, here's my review of Sir Rock's mix.
Again a pretty eclectic bunch and not many artists I'm familiar with. Strangely enough Deerhoof are probably the most familiar band to me on here. I just kind of like their off-kilter take on things, which although many bands try to do, not many succeed. Tv on the Radio is my favourite track on the album,a band who I have precisely one track of on my HD. There was nothing I really hated on this mix, which is pretty good, although some of it passed me by. The Menomena track was probably my least favourite, although I liked the brass (what is it??) sound on it, which reminded of times gone by with Prince's instrumental side project, Madhouse. I really wanted to like the World/Inferno Friendship Society song, there's something endearing about it, but it ended up annoying me - a bit like an over-affectionate dog.
Tops - Deerhoof, TV on the Radio, The Spinto Band Bottoms - World/Inferno Friendship Society, Enon, Menomena, Ratatat
Tips - Clinic, The Rapture.

On a roll now, here's my review of Surfer's mix.
This mix has polarised me like no other. If I'm absolutely honest, the first time I listened to it, I don't think I liked anything, except maybe the Cramps. So I've listened to it a few more times, and I'm glad I did. Don't get me wrong, there are still some songs I hate, but now there are tracks that I like more than any of the other new stuff I've heard on the other mixes.
Ok, I think the first two tracks by !Forward Russia! and The Automatic are brilliant and are a great way to open a mix, sadly though the next two are pretty much the antimatter of the first two tracks. The Cramps and Dalek bring it right back up again from there. I haven't heard too much of The Cramps for some reason, despite one of my best mates being a massive fan. Maybe he gave up on me. Love the Louis XIV song too, at least as much as the first two tracks. I think generally in this mix I love the punkier stuff, but the more metal 'power chord' bands just don't connect.
Best - !Forward Russia!, The Automatic, Louis XIV, The Cramps, William Eliott Whitmore Worst - Cavity, Corrosion of Conformity, Upcleftcdowncrightcabc+Start In the middle - Whirlpool, Test Icicles, Into Another
Hope this doesn't seem too harsh, I really love those top 5 tracks, and the Whirlpool one is growing on me too.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

Ah, I had the 'number' sorting enabled in iTunes, rather than the 'album' sorting. It doesn't change too much, except the first four songs are an even better way to start the mix. I had thought that Whitmore song wasn't the final one when I was listening last night. Thanks Denis.

Also, am I still OK to do two mixes? I still want to do my dance(ier) one if possible.

Review - Broken Face mix: Faves: Kinks, Onelinedrawing, King of France, Liz Janes & Create, Books Least faves: America's #1 Sweetheart, Calexico, Mountain Goats Another great installment in the Broken Face mix series. If I were really hones I'd say I liked the previous one more, but that's probably because there were some songs I already knew and loved, whereas everything was quite new to me this time. So. Nice instrumental start, every time the mix begins I think it's the FBF version of Where Is My Mind. They sound kinda similar. I was waiting for the Kinks Beginners Guide you mentioned earlier, but had to content myself with this one track, which is excellent. On a first listen I thought it wasn't worth discovering now a pop band from the 60's, but really, they do know how to write songs. Their CDs are always on sale, I'll grab some. Onelinedrawing has the most appropriate song title ever, it certainly was the highlight of the mix. The following track was so-so. Nice diverse segue then from Unsung (good luck with your project!) to Shostathing. The second half of the mix wasn't as appealing as the first. The Mountain Goats didn't grab my attention and I never liked Calexico, alone or now with Iron & Wine. Lambchop are good, I generally enjoy what they do. The Scott Amendola Band track was cool mainly because, well, it's Scott Amendola (and Nels Cline, one of the coolest guitarists I've seen performing). Jimmy Eat World, well, I really liked their single (what was the name again?) but the song you put here didn't do much to me. And the CD ends very nicely (anything that has japanese female voices do the trick for me). Clever selection all in all.

because reciprocity is the name of the game, Denis' review:
Favs: "Entry of the Globbors" - Joe Meek, "Sunrise in Montreal" - Rabih Abou-Khalil, "Necrophelia" - Velvet Cactus Society, "Okonkole Y Trompa" - Jaco Pastorius Least Favs: "People Make the World Go Round" - Innerzone Orchestra, "Off Beat Killer" - Detroit Grand Pubahs Comments: Denis continues to surprise with this mix of heavily middle eastern influence (at least it sounded that way to my ears). the Joe Meek track was a lot of fun and reminded me of the what it would sound like if children could make rock and roll. "Sunrise..." was fantastic, and i always love me some Jaco. The mix, as a whole, really sounded exotic to me which was a real nice change in tone from the other mixes in this round. The tracks that i listed as least favs really did nothing for me, but there were positive moments in just about every other track on the mix. Certainly the most unusual mix of the batch so far, and i mean that in a very good way.
