FYI yall. Go support Josh and SPREAD THE WORD!!! He did an awesome job and I think it seems you guys agree!
Josh Frank’s UK Table reading tour of “Fool The World” The Oral History of a band called PIXIES DEC 1 and 2 in LONDON! It’s the 1980s, and the rock landscape is littered with massive hair, synthesizers and monster riffs, but there is an "alternative" being born in the sleepy east of America—we just don’t know it yet.
This is the set up for “Fool The World” The oral history of a band called Pixies, and in just a few weeks the story is coming LIVE to you! Read aloud by a posse of actors and a surprise guest or two, they will bring the story to life for a special one of a kind book reading tour.
The readings will last 40 to 45 minutes, followed by a Q and A.
In London cartoonist Steve Appleby who did the famous cartoons for the last Pixies album, and original new drawings for the book will make an appearance.
Author Josh Frank spent 4 years collecting the stories for the book that Q Magazine has described as “definitive.”
About the book: Before the Internet, MTV and iPods provided far-off music fans with knowledge and communities—and before Kurt Cobain’s Nirvana helped usher in a newly invigorated youth culture—kids across the world grew up in relative isolation, dependent on mix tapes and self-created art to slowly spread scenes and trends. It was under these conditions that four youngish musicians found each other in Boston, Massachusetts and started a band.
"Fool The World" tells Pixies’ story in the words of those who lived it, from the band - Charles Thompson, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering - to the tour managers, studio owners, A&R executives, producers, engineers and visual artists who worked with them, to the hometown acts who watched them skyrocket to indie superstardom.
Boasting new original cartoons by Steve Appleby (artist on Pixies’ Trompe Le Monde) and prints by Simon Larbalestier (photographer of all five Pixies covers) "Fool The World" is a complete journey through the life, death, and rebirth of one of the most influential bands of all time.

Hi all! I just wanted to thank you guys for all the really nice things you have said about the book.
It means so much to me that it works, that yall dig it, and give it yer blessings.
I was pretty freaked out since it was such an explosive topic to live up to. So many people with so much love, and passion for the music and the peeps involved. It is a relief to know that over all it seems that its a good read for everyone.
Again, just want to thank you for picking it up and liking it.
The US edition will be out March 21!
Also wanted to mention that I have a few original prints of photos from the album art, that were used in the book. mainly- Come on Pilgrim and Spike the dog. I hate to see them collect dust as I dont have enough wall space for em. So if anyone is interested in them let me know, They are beautifully framed by me and I'm sellin em for what I got em for.
If interested email me thru the Fooltheworld website-
www.fooltheworldbook.com or just email: fooltheworldbook@yahoo.com
Thanks again everyone for all the nice things you've said on here! |

Wow I had no idea this book was not even out in the U.S. yet. Just read it in a frenzy over the weekend. It is without doubt a very good book.
Must say I think Albini comes over as a bit of a git. I wonder if we'd ever heard of him if he hadn't produced Surfer Rosa. |

Has anyone read both the UK (256 pages) and USA version (336 pages) of this book? I've got the UK release and was wondering if its worth importing the USA copy for those extra pages. |

To the UK and Euro Folks-
Have no fear. As it turns out you pretty much end up with the same book as the US one. So you really are not missing out on anything. Infact, you get color photos. Your book cost double the US cost, but you get color pictures. US gets to pay less but no color. Its sort of like you get the coffee table version of the book, the one that looks good next to the magazines spread out on the table.
There are maybe a few paragraphs here and there that go on extra about Boston and the scene that virgin didn't think UK folk would care about. You know US atmosphere etc...
but really thats about it in the end.
Just so ya know. US folk get it cheaper and some extended US/Boston atmosphere but you get color photos.
my best, Josh |

oh and I guess the introductions to the chapters in the US edition are each a bit longer and extended. Who knows, only you can judge in the end if it's worth it to have both. Just tryin to help. Enjoy it either way, I wrote it for you guys first and foremost, so I hope you feel you get yer moneys worth. |

It's odd that the guys at Virgin Books went over the book and picked little things like that out.

I loved your book but you'd make a terrible sales man! You should have said the USA version is loads different and you could have increased your sales by thousands with people buying 2 copies!!! LOL |
